DLA WAIT TIMES THREAD 61

1000 replies

macap · 30/12/2024 17:21

Hey! Thought I'd make a new thread as previous one very close to being full!

These threads have been a big help whilst waiting for the outcome of our application. Sure they help everyone else too! It's stressful!

Please feel free to add your scan date and whether it's a new claim/mandatory reconsideration/change of circumstances or renewal.

New claims (NC) - people are being told the wait time has increased to 25 weeks! I would say most are done before this though around the 20 week mark?

Mandatory reconsideration (MC) and Change of circumstances (COC) is around 20-25 weeks.

Renewals tend to be between 15-20 weeks.

If you disagree with the outcome of an MR you can appeal and go to court (tribunal)

Scan date is the date DLA scan your application forms on to their system, if you downloaded your application forms then this will be from when your award will be backdated from. If you called up for forms then the date on those is the date yours will be backdated from.

If successful and claiming universal credit (UC) please update them as this will entitle you to disabled child element adding extra to your award.

DLA contact number is 0800 121 4600

I get they have so many applications, but I have two children one diagnosed 10 one 14 had the assessment waiting under chams. I could have applied years ago, but thought you needed a diagnosis. Our family lost so much money, I have had to give up work we were a 2 parent working family with four children and they speak to you like this. Stressed isn’t the word anymore. X

I seriously get that they have to answer phone call after phone call but isn't that what they actually getting paid for ?
All parents with kids with additional needs struggling everyday, spending last penny to make sure kids have what they need and then you getting someone who suppose to help you to make your mind at ease and instead you getting attitude like this.
How that suppose to help. When u ringing its saying that inappropriate behaviour not gonna be tolerated but its ok for them to be snappy ?
I do hope if you ring next time you will get someone nicer to actually help you this time and you will get proper decision xx

My 14 year old has to have a meal deal everyday at 4.80 else she doesn’t eat anything else. The same thing every time. All day breakfast sandwich. Chicken on stick with the dip can’t remember what they called and Dr Pepper. If there is no sandwiches of the all day breakfast she won’t have it. This cost 33.60 a week. We don’t drive and have to go and walk else where of the local shop doesn’t have it. I mean when she needs ot she refuses to eat anything else until she gets a meal deal. I tested her one day and said they had nothing she didn’t eat for 24 hours until she had that meal deal
the next day. 🤦‍♀️ little things like that are stress 😭😭

The questions are there for that as-well. Example of mine. How many times in the night they need re settling and how often, mine son is up to 4 times 3-4 times a week so I put that and takes up
to half hour and he 10.
only evidence of that I have is send saying mum reports he doesn’t sleep well has disturb sleep and this shows as he regularly falls a sleep for an hour at a time in school under the table or on the desk with head down. Yes they just leave him 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ just be honest. I think I’m going to have to go doctors about a sleep clinic because o don’t know how much longer i can do this he is 10 lol xx

Yeah all the questions are answered best I could as he varies just no supporting evidence so hopefully it’s enough.
my son wakes in the night and/or takes a while to fall asleep cause he’s upset and panicky and the reasons vary from thinking someone is going to break in our house so I need to physically show him everything is locked. But a new one that he started after I submitted the application so this isn’t written down is having to actually take him outside to show him trees in the neighbours garden cause he doesn’t believe we have trees close enough to our house so therefore he cannot breathe properly 😂 I’ve got to laugh or I’ll cry 😂

Just ring them and put note on the system that my son now showing signs of anxiety at night about people braking in but a dm could say this is part of growing up and danger of the world they are taught being in line with his age.as for the trees mention that as well. But unfortunately a lot of our children go through stages of anxiety and dms know this and class as normal. Death is the other one it all a process of growing up. Sorry to say that’s how DMs look at it xx

sjay1017 · 08/01/2025 21:01

My daughter had 24 calls to the police in 2024 for saying out all night putting her self in danger. Turning phone off and alone some of the time. Need space apparently and it’s quiet at night no people. 36 hours was longest she was missing at age of 12. She can stay awake 48 hours at a time and I cant sleep unless she does because I have to keep her safe she will climb through windows. So it’s ok saying everyone with children with disability’s are in same situation they aren’t as some is worse then others. I class mine as medium but having two children that are night owls and both don’t sleep well and danger being alone. It’s hard. 6 months ago I was working wasn’t just a say at home mum of 4 kids that I been for 8 years life was coming back and I’m back to no sleep, demands like a newborn. I know it’s not my children’s fault, but dla don’t understand the extra stress they cause. Especially when they sit at a desk judging on what we write not knowing the child then can take up to a year if mr. I’m 40 in 2 days maybe a mental breakdown 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️
sorry I’m on one today rant over

My 10 year old is like that. He still drinks with a straw even bottle for school with a straw. He only eats spag bol chicken wraps. Lasagne fish and chips only home made chips and roast no veg. But two years ago he wouldn’t eat any of that. Thing is he will get bored of that soon then I’m screwed of what to fed him. Inbox me hun, don’t want to clog up thread as I been on right one today as you can see.. 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ maybe I can give you some tips that might help xx

Myboy2017 · 08/01/2025 21:16

Hey everyone. So today I rang about my M/R S/D 26/7 and it has been done today. Unfortunately it’s unchanged. My son gets HRC and LRM and I was challenging the LRM because I know fact he qualifies for HRM. So I will be taking it to appeal. Has anyone done an appeal here? Do I really need to wait for letter to arrive first or can I start it? As I know the decision was decided today.

This is why people get so annoyed with DLA. They can’t say to someone that’s been waiting since July/August wait the 25 weeks and then deal with a claim in October like they ent done nothing wrong🤦🏽‍♀️ congrats to the person who has had their decision that quick but the system is a joke. This is why I rang nearly everyday when I was waiting for my sons outcome, was sick of seeing dates months after mine being done🤦🏽‍♀️

Mumabear13 · 08/01/2025 22:49

I would love to go into their offices and watch how they work and to know exactly what their system is.

In my head there’s a circle of desks with a giant mountain of brown envelopes inside and they just grab the nearest one 🤣

It’s hard seeing dates done after your own especially when there are no obvious special circumstances. Literally every time I queried it the DM claimed they weren’t aware until one guy from a Birmingham office said he was aware they weren’t being done in date order!

Sorry to hear that. Did they say why they didn’t change it? I would wait for the letter as I believe you’ll get 2 copies 1 is needed to start an appeal. Feel free to correct me anyone.

Spoke to a lovely woman who’s has told me middle of feb as looks like it could be changed to 30 weeks I said u don’t realise the upset this causes and she could only apologise, but sorry 30 weeks is a joke

Omg really? What happened to getting wait times down. That’s ridiculous

It’s been like this quite a bit. There were September and October dates being done as far back as November if I recall

how Devastating! So sorry ! Definitely appeal. Wait for the mandatory reconsideration notice to come through, I think you need this to start the tribunal x

I kind of expected it, HRM it very hard to get. However I know he’s entitled to it. Thank you xx

I’ve just had a very rude message of uc asking me why it took me so long to report a change to them and they are not willing to review back payment untill I respond 😂😂 safe to say they got a lovely response back how can we help dla wait times! It took them 23 weeks to sort my claim that’s not my issue so I shouldn’t see why I’m punished for that x

Should’ve said we’ve been asking DLA about it too but they failed to provide us with an honest answer. They will accept it they have for everyone as it’s outside of our control

It is! This is what I said to myself when my son got declined originally, my 3rd time challenging for HRM so did the MR and he was awarded! Don’t give up! You got this! With any luck they’ll over turn before tribunal!

Kc1999x · 08/01/2025 23:40

@Chels2020 @SKB12 DWP make me laugh😂 workers for UC know the wait times for DLA/PIP atm🤦🏽‍♀️😂 however it’s probably just a case of they have to ask so they can have it in writing as to why it’s a late change of circumstance. Honestly so glad I don’t have to deal with their crap for a while😅
