DLA WAIT TIMES THREAD 61

1000 replies

macap · 30/12/2024 17:21

Hey! Thought I'd make a new thread as previous one very close to being full!

These threads have been a big help whilst waiting for the outcome of our application. Sure they help everyone else too! It's stressful!

Please feel free to add your scan date and whether it's a new claim/mandatory reconsideration/change of circumstances or renewal.

New claims (NC) - people are being told the wait time has increased to 25 weeks! I would say most are done before this though around the 20 week mark?

Mandatory reconsideration (MC) and Change of circumstances (COC) is around 20-25 weeks.

Renewals tend to be between 15-20 weeks.

If you disagree with the outcome of an MR you can appeal and go to court (tribunal)

Scan date is the date DLA scan your application forms on to their system, if you downloaded your application forms then this will be from when your award will be backdated from. If you called up for forms then the date on those is the date yours will be backdated from.

If successful and claiming universal credit (UC) please update them as this will entitle you to disabled child element adding extra to your award.

DLA contact number is 0800 121 4600

Scan date 25/08 NC.

I have only called once and that was to check the additional evidence that I sent in bad been received. From memory, even the automated message that you listen to when you call tells you not to call until "20 weeks/25 weeks" from the scan date. I have been watching this forum for a while and haven't seen one person say that their persistent calling had any impact on them getting their application dealt with sooner - so I am at a loss as to why people are calling asking for updates before this time frame.

I appreciate the timeframe is increasing, but the irony of the situation is that people calling before the current issued timeframe is doing nothing but wasting the staffs time and clogging the phone lines. It's basic supply and demand, if the phones are busy, more staff will be allocated to them and less will be processing applications.

When applications have been processed with a scan date ahead of others that haven't been, it will be that the DM that certain applications have been allocated to has processed them quicker - for a variety of reasons (some applications more complex/staff part time hours). It's not personal. I highly doubt applications are sat in one stack and processed one at a time to ensure they are in exact order.

I personally am waiting until the 25 weeks, by which time I know I will have a response. Maybe if others could do the same we may see the timeframe decrease, which we all want, DLA staff included.

Finally someone with an open mind. I agree with you. The call handlers are burnt out especially one of them sounded so drained they told me we’re still in December 😂. I understand call after call is hard

I'm exhausted between dla, uc and the school and the kids I feel like I'm constantly chasing someone 😪

Hey I just took my daughter out of school after 4 years of school refusal. They were coming at me after 2 years of not helping me and just expected me to get my daughter to school after all this time. She 14 on Saturday. She been assessed by chams for adhd and autism but she can mask so much better then my son that diagnosed age 10.
I put in a claim 2 and half months ago they didn’t receive the forms. Chams and school refuses to provide me evidence chams reasons she 13 and we not aloud to share information with you.
oh I really understand what you are going threw it’s all crap for or Sen children. X

zoeybrooks45 · 08/01/2025 18:47

I am kind of disheartened at the fact people are claiming financial hardship when they are indeed not it financial hardship. Most parents with SEN children are financially struggling which is why they are claiming DLA in the first place. I agree everybody should wait for the applications to be processed normal waiting times unless your child is end of life care then putting your application infront of another disabled child is just plain wrong. I understand DWP is why all of us are under pressure and constantly worried because of the unusual wait times. If anybody is passed the time frame stated on the letter then you can call for an update but to claim hardship for a quicker route is really disheartening to hear. I hope we all hear soon but unfortunately nobody is DM here. DWP need to clean this mess up.

zoeybrooks45 · 08/01/2025 18:48

@Stacey0909 my MR is 20/08 I have called today no update nothing going on. Let me know if you hear your outcomes. MR are taking much longer than the regular new claims.

sjay1017 · 08/01/2025 18:50

Hey guys. Can I ask if anyone had any experience with this my daughter had another professional come in to help with an assessment with chams, asking my daughter what where you asked it was very much like my son that was with cdc which was for autism possible adhd. Then it went to panel. It took 6 months then I received a letter saying diagnoses autistic spectrum conditions. Last chams would tell me is it’s at panel is this the same process as cdc then? Chams also need to go to panel? She had the assessment 3 months ago that was an hour x

Yes 4, other enquiries, I don’t choose the update one lol. I said I was filling in my form for my daughter and I’m really concerned I didn’t answer the question of contacting the professionals she looked and said yes you did you are fine. I said can o ask if it’s with a dm yet she said no and won’t be till 19th Feb, I said can ask for a note to be put that I’m in financial hardship, she said that won’t make ans difference and it’s not even a thing. The wait is 25 weeks and that’s it. If after 25 weeks then we could put the note and raise it.
I wanted to say you told me 11, 15, 18, 20 and now 25. Maybe if you stopped false info people wouldn’t get so stressed and 6 months isn’t even plausible really but I couldn’t be assed. Plus I said speak to someone in English and she didn’t speak it very well either. Friday I will ring again. Lol.

Why they have to be so nasty.
Im so sorry you have to go though that. Clearly its depends on who gonna answer
the phone because gentleman on phone with me was really helpful

I rang, pressed option 4, lovely guy. Told me we were awarded yesterday, MRC and LRM. So happy, I cried! I haven't received a text or back pay.

My son is 13 with ASD, this money will help him so much.

The only evidence I sent was his diagnosis report, his school SEN plan and the rest was my examples.

I used the Cereba DLA help guide. I tried to give examples of every thing.

Good luck to you all.

I get they have so many applications, but I have two children one diagnosed 10 one 14 had the assessment waiting under chams. I could have applied years ago, but thought you needed a diagnosis. Our family lost so much money, I have had to give up work we were a 2 parent working family with four children and they speak to you like this. Stressed isn’t the word anymore. X

I didn’t do it because I’m not. I did it because I am. I pay for extra guitar lessons for my son once a week. As he obsessed with guitar and struggles so bad academically, one thing he really enjoys and gets he got asd. My daughter horse riding lessons as that’s the only thing she will do outside of the home at 14 social anxiety been assessed for adhd and autism . The extra food I gave to buy because of sensory needs. The heating I haveto put on because my kids don’t wear clothes in the house and only use blankets. had to give up work a couple months ago as my daughter was taking part in risky behaviour being home alone as school refusal and social care got involved.
so please don’t think I did it because I’m not struggling I actually am as a mum of four now struggling going from 2 parent family working to one.

I was not talking directly at anyone. My point was that everyone that applies for DLA is struggling financially with a disabled child. I understand that you want an answer quicker but you will just go ahead other struggling families. It’s not your fault. Unfortunately the system is just unfair. I can be empathetic torwards you’re circumstances but the reality is you are not alone.

My daughter took a knife to the street a few months ago that changed our situation massively. Threats to stab her ex boyfriend. Can’t leave her home alone anymore. They didn’t recieve my claim for dla 2 and half months ago so back to square one with that one bit on 19 weeks for my son. So yes I need some help financially after giving up a full time job because I had no choices.

Hello everyone.

I’ve been silently following the thread, thank you it’s been so helpful!

SD 21/08/24 NC
i called today and was told a decision was made yesterday.
We got MRC and LRM which I’m so surprised and happy about - I was geared up for MR.

Claim is for 8 year old just diagnosed with ASC.

Good luck to everyone still waiting x

macap · 08/01/2025 19:40

I don't think calling the call centre is the reason for delayed claims as the call handlers are not decision makers anyway.

While I appreciate it probably gets a bit tiresome answering call after call is sort of the the job role of a call handler in a centre.

My scan date is 13/9 hopefully on the home straight now. My other DD SD is 28/10 so still a while to go there but I'm not as concerned for hers as I sent bags of evidence.

We should also find out the outcome of my DDs EHCNA this week. Constantly refreshing email's!

Currently on exactly 20 weeks today

Has anyone heard anything for a MR close to my scan date please?

Scan date 4/9 nc
I haven't rang, I've had two letters so far one saying they received claim form and one saying sorry about delay.
Seems like a long way off for a decision at the moment. But sending good luck to all

Sorry, to jump at you, but I have struggled so bad the last couple of months. I think the extra with my daughter has added to everything. I have had Xmas. Extra heating. Can’t change my children routine of horse riding and guitar, that will lead to more problems. I’m trying so hard and have two other children that aren’t showing signs of the same, but they still cost lol. Losing all that money for reason I had to do it and lost all my life aswell is so hard and such a change after returning to work for 2 and half years, to try to better my family. You just get so deflated and depressed to be honest. Then get spoke to like they speak to you. I feel it’s disgusting x

Ash900 · 08/01/2025 19:54

I know you can send extra evidence but would that include just a note written by yourself? So it’s not like actual professional evidence?. Basically I wrote like an extra 12 pages with extra info on questions that I felt needed it. But looking through my application, I don’t feel I wrote enough or went into enough detail about night time needs. So could I write out a bit more about that on a bit of paper and send that off? Seems a bit silly to have to spend like £9 sending them a bit of writing on a paper though.

my scan date is 12/09 so not sure wether to just wait and if we get awarded and it’s not hrc, do an mr?

Thank you. Sorry again. Just feeling a little deflated today. As we all probably are. Worried about my daughters future as well.
as I have the added now I have to home school her from next week. It’s just stress after stress. But like you said Sen parents go through all this and I’m not alone even if I feel like it. Yours is the 20.8 isn’t it. Good luck to you as well sorry again lovely xx

It does make sense but night time needs I have no evidence from professionals so that is literally all down to what I have said and I don’t think I have said enough. I feel day time needs are covered well as I also sent his cdc referral for suspected autism, IEP, communications interactions therapist support, and a supporting letter from senco that was used for his cdc referral all backing up what I have stated. But night time needs was all down to me to explain it and I’m badly second guessing what I have written.

but I also haven’t got spare money to throw away on posting things that may not be needed as £9 is actually quite a lot of money 😂

I’ll wait it out and do an MR if needed and back up my statements then I think

The questions are there for that as-well. Example of mine. How many times in the night they need re settling and how often, mine son is up to 4 times 3-4 times a week so I put that and takes up
to half hour and he 10.
only evidence of that I have is send saying mum reports he doesn’t sleep well has disturb sleep and this shows as he regularly falls a sleep for an hour at a time in school under the table or on the desk with head down. Yes they just leave him 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ just be honest. I think I’m going to have to go doctors about a sleep clinic because o don’t know how much longer i can do this he is 10 lol xx
