DLA WAIT TIMES THREAD 61

1000 replies

macap · 30/12/2024 17:21

Hey! Thought I'd make a new thread as previous one very close to being full!

These threads have been a big help whilst waiting for the outcome of our application. Sure they help everyone else too! It's stressful!

Please feel free to add your scan date and whether it's a new claim/mandatory reconsideration/change of circumstances or renewal.

New claims (NC) - people are being told the wait time has increased to 25 weeks! I would say most are done before this though around the 20 week mark?

Mandatory reconsideration (MC) and Change of circumstances (COC) is around 20-25 weeks.

Renewals tend to be between 15-20 weeks.

If you disagree with the outcome of an MR you can appeal and go to court (tribunal)

Scan date is the date DLA scan your application forms on to their system, if you downloaded your application forms then this will be from when your award will be backdated from. If you called up for forms then the date on those is the date yours will be backdated from.

If successful and claiming universal credit (UC) please update them as this will entitle you to disabled child element adding extra to your award.

DLA contact number is 0800 121 4600

Hey lovelies I did mr back in July for hrm just called and a decision was made on the 3rd of Jan but she couldn’t tell me over the phone she said they are not allowed to give outcome of mr over the phone does this mean it’s a no then she said wait for a letter but I’m ringing enquiry’s now anyone one else had this happen to them x

you need to be able to evidence everything on the SMI chart. If your evidence supports all on the chart, I think you’ll be fine! I have 3 children, one who is 18months in a pushchair, then my eldest has a disability buggy. I can’t go anywhere unless I have another adult present unless it’s a car ride A to B that requires no stops🤦🏽‍♀️

has she got an ehcp?

Literally the same as me! I have to get my mum to come down and help me or I can’t travel anywhere unless it’s in a car as she restricts herself from walking😩. I might have a look at a disability buggy for the mean time and see how we get along with that as we still have a long wait to go for this mandatory reconsideration we’ve been waiting only 8 weeks. Her EHCP application has been sent of so I’m hoping to hear back soon for it also a referral to OT has been done but there’s a huge waiting list!

Ask your gp to do a referral to wheelchair services. That’s how my son got his and honestly it’s relieved so much of my anxiety while out and about!
im not sure how it works if your child is in mainstream or special school. So because my son has an ehcp I chose his school which wasn’t our catchment area school and it’s nearly an hour out from where we live, recently moved house. I requested transport for my son but they refused because it’s a parent preference school. So if your child is in mainstream catchment area school and she gets her ehcp you can request transport🤷🏽‍♀️ not sure if our councils are the same though. But it’s definitely worth a look into x

Anyone no how long a decision will be now

So I’m actually in the middle of changing her school at the moment because I had a early help practitioner come out and assess her support by the school as they kept refusing to do the ehcp with me and it wasn’t great they advised me to move her as she’s academically 3 years behind the school is rubbish they said she don’t need a ehcp as she’s not disruptive in class so I’ve had to go through sendias to do it but she does not get enough support there and it’s a new sendco also I’m going to ask my gp about that actually and see what they can do as they’ve seen what she’s like and they know I can’t bring her to gp appointments more time because of how stressed she gets so I’ll definitely go to them and see what they can do in the mean time x
thank you for your help x

Oh that’s no good is it! Definitely doing the right thing moving her.
It shows how uneducated they are, I hope you get a school that’s right for her! It’s definitely worth going into visit the school and requesting to meet with the senco before committing if you haven’t done so already!
and my son is the same, gp appointments are a nightmare, hospital trips the lot it’s a joke. I rang up and requested a telephone appointment, explained I’m just asking for a referral to wheelchair services due to extreme behaviours outdoors. Explained what he’s like outdoors and how dangerous it is for him, and they put the referral straight through!

Same scan date and I called on 2nd. Still not showing it's with a DM. I'm not really an anxious person but this long wait with no clue of what decision will be is stressful. Hopefully this week will be our week.

My scan 14.08 and i called them on 2.01 they told me I have to wait 25weeks. Then few hours later I got text message that we got it. I called again and asked for details and they told me rates etc

Aww great news. Don't know whether to call at some point today or wait til Wed which will make it 21 weeks.

entering week 19. Now I’m feeling stressed. Was ok till week 15, then ok all through Xmas when I realised there was no way I was getting a decision for Xmas . Now I just feel they take the bloody mic! I love the way call handlers etc say oh well if you are awarded you get it back dated, so think of it like that. it’s ok saying that but it’s not them waiting this bloody long, and have the extra expense of a sen child.
rant for today over 😊😊

Is this a new claim?

Yeah it’s a new claim, but I’m not taking in what the mans said as from reading through these threads you get anything said to you to get you off the phone

Micd3896 · 06/01/2025 11:16

Complaint made! Had enough now. After arguing with the call handler to actually check my sons claim because he was point blank refusing due it not being 25 weeks he said he can now see a note on the system that they spoke to me in December and asked me to send my sons birth certificate! I said they never asked me for that at all otherwise I would have sent it weeks ago. So because of that it’s been put back into a holding queue! Fuming is not the word

I don’t blame you it seems like an endless battle of fighting for our children if it’s not the hospitals it’s the schools and dla, they give u false hope of 8 weeks then 15 weeks then 25 weeks hope you get sorted soon x

Omg that's ridiculous, the call handlers just need to be better informed, honestly the stress they cause is awful 😖
