DLA WAIT TIMES THREAD 61

1000 replies

macap · 30/12/2024 17:21

Hey! Thought I'd make a new thread as previous one very close to being full!

These threads have been a big help whilst waiting for the outcome of our application. Sure they help everyone else too! It's stressful!

Please feel free to add your scan date and whether it's a new claim/mandatory reconsideration/change of circumstances or renewal.

New claims (NC) - people are being told the wait time has increased to 25 weeks! I would say most are done before this though around the 20 week mark?

Mandatory reconsideration (MC) and Change of circumstances (COC) is around 20-25 weeks.

Renewals tend to be between 15-20 weeks.

If you disagree with the outcome of an MR you can appeal and go to court (tribunal)

Scan date is the date DLA scan your application forms on to their system, if you downloaded your application forms then this will be from when your award will be backdated from. If you called up for forms then the date on those is the date yours will be backdated from.

If successful and claiming universal credit (UC) please update them as this will entitle you to disabled child element adding extra to your award.

DLA contact number is 0800 121 4600

There had to be a better way. I think switching to online applications would be better than paper, the amount which go 'missing' is very suspect. If it had online, you would also have an application progress tracker too and all those people working on the phones could be processing applications!

It’s so archaic I’m surprised they haven’t made an attempt to even get a feature online. It could be uploading evidence, then confirming receipt of a claim, anything but instead it’s a phone call for everything DLA related and then they wonder why they get so many calls

Hey guys.
happy new year.
well I held off ringing for 3 weeks. Spoke to a lovely lady, other two times I called they been very rude. Well anyone around the 28/08, the decision was made two weeks before Xmas that the wait time went up to 25 weeks and it passed, mine needs to be looked at by the 19th feb. I said to her about this forum and we can see dates getting done and she agreed the claims are going quicker in August, then. July but they still have until the 19th, mine still lot been assigned. I said 6 months is getting a bit silly tho, she said honestly we have took lots of measures in the last few weeks to get these wait times down.
so I thought I’d just let you all know.
i didn’t understand dla. I thought you had to be diagnosed, so didn’t bother applying. I could have applied for dla when my son was 6, with all the referrals and that, I missed out on 4 years, he was diagnosed autistic this summer, with very challenging behaviours.

Edited

I thought this too and even then I didn’t think my daughter would qualify until her nurse asked what rate of DLA she was getting. It was after that with her support that we even applied. I am looking to get her rate changed when it’s renewal time or I plan to join the MR queue again.

PipB94 · 02/01/2025 22:22

As the days go by I’m getting more and more anxious about this ☹️ what if I didn’t put enough on my form? What if they don’t believe me!! My 5 year old daughter just expects her needs to be met right away even when I was breastfeeding her baby sister and all hell breaks loose if we don’t do it right away! It’s so hard every day, I hope I put enough on the form I really do! If I have to do an MR I’ve got so much ammo to go with it! Just hope it doesn’t come to that!

Any idea how long the wait is for UC to get back to you with a back dated payment after they have verified children?
had a message on 30.12 to say child has been verified but nothing since than

My little boy is 3, nursery senco is observing him when he goes back next week. I’m pretty sure he’s ASD but I want their input. We left it late with our 13 year old which I regret as it took him being permanently kicked out of school and he’s never recovered from that with having some education

So my little one doesn’t start nursery till September. But health visitor has noted everything down with concerns and what not, ready to make referrals this month for him to get on the waiting lists. I’ll be looking to get a portage worker aswel for him. Had an amazing lady with my eldest so going to see if I can get her again when the time comes!

macap · 02/01/2025 22:41

@Kc1999x I feel sorry for our portage worker, every week she comes with a new bag of tricks and DD could not be less interested if she tried. She doesn't show any interest in toys and likes to spend her time running from one side of the room to the other whilst occasionally laughing at IgglePiggle. 😆

I was on the thread before this
NC with SD 16/08 called for third update today was told not even assigned to a decision maker just about to turn 20 weeks.

5 weeks ago they told me it was with a dm 🙈
when I queried why do they all say such different things making it wildly inaccurate I was told that I was told that in error it must of been a mistake and it will be reported 😅

That’s the same as us the HV is aware from his developmental check and questions we answered. I want to be sure the professionals see what we see so it’s not just our word. He’s been at nursery since last April they’ve noticed he’s very set on his routines and doesn’t play with the other kids maybe it’ll come in time but he reminds me a lot of his older brother so at least we’ve got the ball rolling earlier better to be nothing then have a repeat of 13 year old

i laugh because my son was exactly the same😂 my son doesn’t play with toys still to this day he’s 5 this month. But the portage worker was amazing, not judgey and so down to earth. She wouldn’t force him out of his stims or comfort zone! X

100%! This is exactly what I done with my eldest. Before he went into the nursery at 2 I made sure to have a meeting with the senco, they took a list of all my concerns, started making a support plan and was on the sen register from the start. I already had the speech and language and they helped contribute to the paeds referral. Then a Year later we got the diagnosis then before school we had the ehcp. I plan to do all the same if needs be with my little one.
I’m glad they are helping you because sometimes they can be very dismissive due to age! Which is a load of rubbish because I knew my son was autistic from 1 year old. I can see it with my little one now, so I made the agreement for 18months for my little one. The nursery are aware that I have my concerns with my youngest now also so I’ll be doing all I did for my eldest with the youngest!

My son is still like this at 13. I can imagine my 3 year old engaging even if for a short time 😂

That was my concern and why I haven’t said anything to nursery up to now. I was reading the assessment they do for the nursery kids and saw they noted he was set in his routines and struggles with change and they are working on helping him develop friendships and play with the other kids. I’ve told them his diet is extremely limited as I can’t imagine what he is eating there and how awful his sleep is. He don’t play with toys at home very rare he bothers with them or bothers with them for long. I think better to look in to. He’s under dietician still on formula too weaning him with oat milk but haven’t been able to switch fully yet. Hard work!!

SKB12 · 03/01/2025 09:23

@Kc1999x theyve awarded my son until he turns 17 just the day before. I didn’t think that was possible. Dreading PIP application if they require his engagement I think we will fall down right there given how he currently is 😩

So you’ll have your appointee letters come through around his 16th birthday. It’s so you have time to transfer over! I think you’ll be fine may even do PIP just paper based with any luck🤞🏽🤞🏽

Called again. Still not assigned 23.08 nc. I couldn’t keep myself from calling. I was going to wait until the 10th but hey 🤣
