Hello everyone. I was awarded for my son end of September. I work but also have a uc top up.
I applied for carers element which was processed pretty quickly.
I have asked for it to be back dated to my scan date of dla and it is with a decision maker but it's been about 5 weeks now.
Hoe long have any of you waited to hear back about back payment of carers element?

Edited

Can you only work a certain amount of hours for this?

I was 19 weeks yesterday and have seen so many with a decision for my date and after, the wait is hard enough never mind seeing so many around you with decisions. I don’t feel as though I filled in the form as well as I could of done either so I’m gearing myself up for a decline 🙈 I called today about extra evidence and they said I could send it recorded delivery but Monday just gone I was told it was with a decision maker 🥴

Oh right so is that on top of the disability element? X

Chels2020 · 14/11/2024 18:34

If uc is owt like careers allowance tou can only claim one element either careers directly or the careers component of uc and surely it will be the same can only earn 151 a week before you loose that entitlement don’t hold me to that though as I get careers allowance and don’t work x

Hopefully it’ll be a celebration Prosecco tomorrow night! X

Hey everyone, long time lurker, first time poster. Scan date 17/7...17wks so far, the closer we get to a decision the worse my anxiety gets. I'm constantly checking here or fb for date updates, second guessing myself if I've wrote enough, too much...it really is all consuming. I called for the first time yesterday to check if they'd received the extra evidence I sent in September and again in October. Was given the generic "call back after 20wks"....to then see on Facebook dates awarded after me. It's so disheartening (I mean for the parents and child awarded its fabulous news) but it'll be just our luck we end up on the slowest working decision makers desk and they'll be off on their hols next week!

PollyH3 · 14/11/2024 18:41

Re UC I started getting DLA for my daughter in July. You get the disabled child element (one rate for hrc and a lower one for mrc or lrc). You can claim this for each disabled child you get dla for. You can also claim carers element, but you can only claim this for one child/person you care for. If you have a joint claim and more than one child you can each put in for carers (so I'm told, mines a single person claim). The caring element is if you claim for someone for 35+ hours a week.
There is also carers allowance which is a different benefit, you have to earn under a certain amount and is taken pound for pound from your uc. I work part time so don't claim this so I don't know the rate or earning limit etc

Kel3270 · 14/11/2024 19:14

Same date as my son 🤗

See I currently work full time but on mat leave until April and then hoping to drop too 3 days but I was aware that carers allowance was for people who work 12 hours and under. Just wasn't sure about the UC one x

It really is. I was so relieved to see the teacher backed me up, but also felt so sad seeing it written down in black and white. Bless you! It’s been hard. I’ve just had to take a rennie as I’ve given myself heartburn getting anxious 🤣 x

Oh no, try not to be too anxious. I know it’s easier said than done. I totally understand. We knew for a long time our son was autistic but seeing it on his report, I cried. We love them all the same and this is all about making life that bit easier so we all have to hang in there and hope the horrendous wait was worth it.

SKB12 · 14/11/2024 19:40

Kel3270 · 14/11/2024 14:40

Without a doubt. I won't be able to sweat it over the weekend 🤣🤣 I just want them to put an overtime incentive out. That's what they do in my work and everyone gets their booty in 🤣🤣

Edited

They definitely said they were offering overtime and drafting in extra decision makers from other departments. That’s 2 decision makers that have said that now so hopefully it’s true 😂

ASDmummaof2 · 14/11/2024 19:40

So I’m back on the waiting bus with this I put A MR today for mobility. So scan date 14/11. The start of my long long wait again! Just a glutton for punishment me! @MrsW12 i will be opening my bottle tomorrow with you! 🤞🤞🤞🤞

Waitingmummy · 14/11/2024 19:42

Scan date: 25/07
I need help please my child's DLA award has been reduced from Higher rate care to Lower rate care and low mobility rate! I have sent so much evidence including CAMHS, SCHOOL REPORT, HOUSING ETC. I raised a concern with the DM who should contact me (I'm trying to avoid going through an MR as long waiting times) how can I prove the supersession isn't legal?

SKB12 · 14/11/2024 19:43

MrsW12 · 14/11/2024 16:00

I called just now. It’s been scanned on but not looked at yet. I can’t do this much longer 😔 x

Fingers crossed for tomorrow. It doesn’t sound like it’s going to be much longer. Would be a great way to start the weekend.

Am unsure on an answer am so sorry. But how did the happen if you don't mind me asking? Was it a coc or Mr or something x

Waitingmummy · 14/11/2024 19:49

Not at all, it was at renewal they just made the decision nothings changed except more complex needs as DD is older now and requires more support. Im so shocked its been reduced from HRC to LRC, i dont know how they've come to this decision with all the information I sent. Im worried now what to do

I’ll have some company since ours won’t be decided until 28th of January from what they’ve said. It’s rubbish that’s you’ve had to go for MR but we fight on! I’m mentally preparing myself to go to tribunal if needed 😩
