Dinner was EPIC!!!! Second pasta of the day but I don't care because it was so nice.

A sort of pasta alfredo with gammon, courgette, onions and mushrooms. Sauce was just water, quark and Parmesan (4syns). There is more speed in there than the pic suggests.

Got a milky bar mousse to try in a minute. Rumour has it that if you put the in the freezer they are like ice cream (but I haven't done that). 4.5syns.

Had a good first couple of days and starting to understand SW a lot better. Love reading all your loses and achievements! Well done! It gives me more determination to prove to myself (and others) I can do it! You all seem to friendly and its nice (for ideas) to see what you've eaten throughout the day! My biggest challenge will be not having cereal for breakfast and a sandwich for lunch so any alternatives or ides would be helpful! :D
Oh and big thumbs down this lettuce shortage is not helping my salad situation :(

weeonion · 03/02/2017 21:10

Hi all.

Just found this thread.

Have been doing SW for 3 weeks now and lost 16lbs so far. Really pleased. Just another 72lbs to go!

I lost 10 stone over 18 months years ago but really struggled to maintain it. It just gradually went back on but this HAS to be the last time I do this.

Enjoying getting back on track but finding using syns hard - I dont eat sweet stuff and have been totallly avoiding bread as that I my major weak spot. Our leader is vague about how many syns to use - anywhere between 5-15 which seems a huge range. She also said we couldn't save syns to use on another day (so no saving for booze at weekend etc)

BasinHaircut · 03/02/2017 21:18

wee our consultant says at least 5 syns per day. I rarely have less than 12.

She also says she uses syns by allocating herself 105 at the start of the week and just using them till they are gone rather than being strict about 15/day. She also says you can save them up for a takeaway at the weekend or a few drinks etc.

I think as long as it works for you (I.e. You lose weight) you can do it however.

Welcome to the thread!

ALemonyPea · 03/02/2017 21:22

Weeonion, you can save syns to use another day, but you should have at least 5 in a day if you're going to do that as it's making sure you get enough calories. It's called flexi syns, and if you think, you have 105 syns a week to use, rather than the 15 a day, it's easy. I do that if I have something on that week.

weeonion · 03/02/2017 22:12

Thanks for that. I had visions of a no booze futureGrin

Allemonypea - you are my inspiration and wow that you lost that weight in 9 months!

FaithAgain · 03/02/2017 22:37

Basin my leader says the opposite! You cannot save up syns from one day to the next. WW have a similar approach, certain number of syns per day and then extra for the week. This was chaotic for me. I've overspend early in the week then feel deprived at the end, often triggering me to overeat Blush Set syns per day works better for me. I'd say I use all 15 syns 6 days out of 7 but am still losing at least 1lb a week, often more.

FaithAgain · 03/02/2017 22:46

Our consultant (oops used WW term not SW) says 'flexisyns' are about working out how many syns you're likely to lose then working backwards. So, say you're going for a curry. You want chicken tikka masala: 26 syns, pilau rice: 5, 3 gin and tonics...etc and count up how many syns you're likely to use. Then you food optimise by choosing gin and slimline tonic (so you only syn the gin), boiled rice (free) and so on, so you actively chose to reduce the number of syns you have. Okay, you'll probably have more than 15 syns but less than you were planning. That's what I've been taught..,

BasinHaircut · 03/02/2017 23:27

faith yeah I'm not sure using them and then going without for half the week would work for me either. I am planning a takeaway next weeekend though, a totally off plan unrestricted one Blush. So, I'm going to try and stay sub 10 syns/day the rest of the week. It won't totally cover it I don't suppose but should mean that day I have 45 syns in hand.

Will see at the next weigh in whether it affects me or not I suppose!

OwlinaTree · 03/02/2017 23:49

Thanks for your support guys. Had a pleasant evening, nice to see people.

LavenderRains · 04/02/2017 02:37

Welcome emmageddon
I work nights too (hate them!)
I eat normally during the day, then take something to work (just had my chicken sarny) & a few hifi bars for syns. Then when I get home in the morning my new day starts. I don't eat before I go to bed so start again when I get up.
Does that even make sense?! It's gets confusing but I've lost 3 stone so I must be doing something right!!
I used to live on chocolate on a night shift but I just have to make sensible choices now Smile I'm sure you will get into the swing of it.

BasinHaircut · 04/02/2017 07:23

Morning all. Meeting a friend for coffee this morning and really fancy a latte so saving my HEXA, but does anyone know the syn value of the syrups in Costa? The regular and sugar free?

Groovee · 04/02/2017 07:39

001 that's great thanks. Dh is also a gas engineer lol x

OwlinaTree · 04/02/2017 08:10

Normal is 1.5 per shot, sugar free is free according to the app.

BasinHaircut · 04/02/2017 08:44

Thanks Owlina, couldn't see it in the app when I looked. Think I'll have a normal syrup then as I think it will be worth 1.5syns

OwlinaTree · 04/02/2017 08:46

It was hard to find! There's not much logic to that app!

DameVanillaSugar · 04/02/2017 08:48

Hi everyone. Just started SW and found this thread so marking my place for some excellent advice. I've just subscribed to TwoChubbyCubs for inspiration which I found after reading these posts, so thank you!

There's one question that I'd like to ask though - I've been the same weight for 3 years, yet when I went to buy some new clothes last week, I have gone up THREE dress sizes Shock How has that happened??? I weigh the same Sad . Well, that certainly spurred me on to change my ways. Speed food here I come Smile

ClashCityRocker · 04/02/2017 08:48

Morning all.

My consultant hasn't said anything about how to use your Syns really, just that it's about finding what works and is sustainable for you. At present I'm looking at it over the week rather than daily, although I had an ahem adventure in flexible Syns last night unfortunately.

To be honest, it was a lovely meal in good company so I'm not waking up with eaters remorse. I had boiled rice instead of fried, and whilst I had a taste of most things on the starter platter, I didn't gorge on it like I normally would. I did, however, have far too much wine - a full bottle Shock so well over Syns for the day but will likely be under for the week.

Planning to eat SP Monday to Thursday. I tend to be fairly low syn during the week anyway - I don't find I need them and it seems silly to have something I don't particulalry , although I do try to use my five a day. Having said that, I'm still very early on and finding my way. If I hit a plateau I will shake things up a bit.

ClashCityRocker · 04/02/2017 09:19

Also, I would like to nominate hi-fi bars for the most misleading packaging award.

They look so indulgent and luxurious, when, in fact, they're a little bit shit, aren't they?

BasinHaircut · 04/02/2017 09:24

Ha ha clash I asked my consultant what they were like inside last week and she opened a couple up to show me. They are tiny!!!! Didn't bother buying any Grin

Groovee · 04/02/2017 09:26

I like the salted caramel ones. Hifi bars that is. They do fill me up though. Dd has been having the mint ones.

I need to read recipes better lol! Didn't read the doner kebab needs chilled for 4 hours before cooking. Thankfully I spied before it was too late.

catsarenice · 04/02/2017 09:27

I love hifi bars - have 2 with a cup of tea in the evening to stop me raiding the biscuit tin!!

OwlinaTree · 04/02/2017 09:33

I like the hifi as a bit of chocolate in the evening. If I know I'm having lunch out and won't know how many syns I've used I save the hifi for the evening instead of having a freddo etc.

WoozyWooo · 04/02/2017 09:48

It depends what I'm doing as to how I use my syns. If I want/need them then I will hv all 15. Some days I don't have so many and some days I go over. It all balances out. If I hv a night out then I just enjoy myself. They're gonna happen.

Hifi bars..... I like the chocolate one crumbled up into a muller vanilla & choc bits yogurt with a few blueberries chucked in ..... feels super indulgent!!! Wink

Have ordered myself a weight loss plaque (pic attached) .... it makes me so happy and I am already feeling more inspired to see that pounds to target number go down Grin

emwithme · 04/02/2017 10:23

Had a lovely off plan night last night, with chicken pesto pasta bake, garlic bread and a bucketful of gin. Just what the doctor ordered.

Tried my first salted caramel hifi bar last night. It was OK but that's all. I try to keep my B choice for evening, and like hifi bars for the chocolate hit. They aren't as bad as those awful jam roly poly ones they had a while ago though.

I am wanting to lose a little this week (hopefully get me under target) because I'm having a scary birthday in 10 days and I have a bottle of champagne with my name on it well, it would be my name if I was called Roger and then we've got 3 days in a hotel because of DH's cousin's wedding (and so I will be drinking ALL THE GIN). But I am back to being focused on maintaining really, have got my head out of the funk it was in. Mostly.

I am definitely doing my food prep this weekend, not having my eggy muffins on hand for breakfast really threw me this week; we have plenty of B-choice-suitable-cereals (weetabix, shredded wheat, porridge) available but then I had to make a decision first thing in the morning, and I am not good at decisions at the best of times Grin

I've also agreed with my consultant that I'll go to one of the "Opportunity Events" in March or April to see what I would have to do to be a consultant. Assuming all goes well, my course ends at the end of June so I'll have time to see if being a consultant is something I'd want to do (the numbers will have to stack up though...)

Today's plan:

Brunch: Big fat fry up, sw stylee!
Dinner: M&S skinny burgers, mushrooms, salad.
HEA: Milk
HEB: Hifi bars
