spag I'm no expert but the things that seem to be the common stumbling blocks people talk about are:

  • check your speed. Use to replace a third of a meal rather than add it on the side.
  • measure your HEX's
  • don't guess syns

You could also use MFP to just check what you are eating isn't adding up to more calories than you should be eating to leave a deficit, although it does go against SW ethos of no weighing its worth a sense check now and again probably.

In other news my lunch was delish. Roasted veg with a quarter of a pouch of micro pilau rice and light halloumi (6syns all in).

laurieloo30 · 26/01/2017 13:26

Morning guys!

Great tip re putting speed food on plate first frouby! I hadn't really thought about it much but defo shove some speed food on after so probably aren't reducing the yummy bits enough!

Halfway through my first sp day and so far so good!
Feeling empowered and determined today!

B - porridge (hexa and hexb)
L - spicy tomato and lentil soup
S - strawberries and raspberries
D - bolognese with squaffles and courgettes

Syns will be in the form of a freddo and fibre one bar this evening!!

I am weeing all the time!!! I also have terrible terrible wind BlushBlush!!!

SpaghettiMeatballs · 26/01/2017 15:02

Thanks Basin I think I'm doing ok with HXA and B so I'll double check syns and ratio of speed : other food.

alibongo5 · 26/01/2017 15:10

*ChanandlerBongsNeighbour" Glad you're feeling so positive and raring to go after starting! Good luck!

Just a little thing - next time, add some speed food (most fruit and veg) to that lunch - some grilled tomatoes or cooked mushrooms perhaps as you're meant to have a third of your plate speed at every meal. (Beans aren't speed, though they are free and P).

ALemonyPea · 26/01/2017 16:00

What a day I've had, I've hardly eaten anything, very unlike me Grin

So much to sort out before my op, not only do I have my family, but I also care for SIL who is disabled both physically and mentally, and it's become quite a chore trying to get one service to speak to the other to get her the support for a few weeks while I'm unable to. Just goes to show how much work I actually do for her. DH is able to do some of it, but he works S can't take time off for it.

Also had to take DS2 to see autism specialist today. Backwards and forwards all day long.

Just having my first drink of the day, I'm parched.

How is everyone? Will have to read back when I've got my brain settled.

Lemony sounds like a tough day.
I'm just starting to feel better after the worst period ever, I'm going to see how I go on next month if it's as bad I'm going to speak to the GP about swapping my copper coil for a mirena. I can't carry on like this. It's a shame because I love the no hormones side of it but it was worse than just after having any of the children.

Anyhow back to food-

B-coffee
L-chicken and veg soup
S-mango, raspberries ff Greek yog, walnuts(heb) and a drizzle of agave nectar.
D-chicken and veg soup.

I made a big pan of chunky soup today and it's so nice I'm having it twice!

randomer · 26/01/2017 17:13

its scaring me seeing what people are eating and realising I have long way to go. Seems like very few calories?

BasinHaircut · 26/01/2017 17:51

randomer I'm averaging about 1500-1600 calories a day. I'm only in week 3 but have lost both weeks so far. It's surprising how much food that allows you when you are eating the right things though.

alibongo5 · 26/01/2017 17:56

randomer I have far more to eat and am still losing steadily, albeit slowly. my head says that is fine although I'd also love to lose 4lb in a week! But you can eat quite a lot and still lose. Just keep track.

TheImprobableGirl · 26/01/2017 18:02

This was my lunch randomer I have dustbin plates too Grin got a big tasty curry in the slow cooker too- need to pack it with a bit more speed but I'm so ready for it in two hours sob

Meant to say welcome to binary too! My group is on a Monday- wish dp would stop being a saboteur though- he has popped to the shop to get cobras to go with his curry Confused

randomer · 26/01/2017 18:19

mmm I was getting my head round eating fairly big portions of the right stuff but then I read about people eating soup and having coffee for breakfast. This is hopeless for me, because then I woud binge.

ChanandlerBongsNeighbour · 26/01/2017 18:25

Thank you for the tip! I still have a bit to learn I think! Got to sit and have a proper read of the book yet, determined to have a loss this week to set me off the right way!

ClashCityRocker · 26/01/2017 18:36

Popping back in!

Had my first weighin a week ago today - 6.5lb off which I was pretty chuffed about.

Setting off for my second weigh-in shortly. My trousers feel looser so fingers crossed.

Re portion size - my portions for tea are always on the larger side, however I do tend to go for a smaller lunch and only have breakfast at weekends. Its been the way I've always eaten, and obviously it didn't keep me skinny or I wouldn't be in such fine company here Grin

Today will be:
B: coffee
L: 2 weetabix and milk (hex a and b)
T: Cajun pollock with garlic mash, kale and broccoli (after weigh in, of course!)

Ive always had a bad habit of eating less (too little?) through the week and binging at weekends. I'm trying to redress this but not quite there yet.

00100001 · 26/01/2017 18:46

HI improbablegirl :)

Thanks :)

OwlinaTree · 26/01/2017 19:07

Hi spaghetti, I've lost 5.5lb in Jan and I'm delighted. To me that is a large amount to lose in 3/4 weeks. On average I've lost 1.5lb a week since I started. I have lost 25.5lb now, and would like to lose maybe 22lb more if possible.

You are making changes for life. It's a marathon not a sprint. Don't be disheartened.

Buttwing · 26/01/2017 19:16

Randomer- my day is particularly lean day for me but that's because yesterday wasn't and I ate too much chocolate! My coffee for breakfast was because I have four young kids that I had to be out the door with by eight this morn and my stomach is just not awake at that time. Usually I come back and make myself something but today I didn't come back til lunch. Also my soup is thick more like stew really. I have had an extra bowl of fruit and yogurt but I've given up sugar (apart from yesterday's chocolate binge!)so I'm not eating as many Syns because I can't think of anything to use them on!

PinkOnWednesday · 26/01/2017 19:47

hiya, I joined a few threads back but didn't manage to stick with it Wink
hoping to get back on it tomorrow so just made a soup, veg and lentils but I've blended it and now wondering it's still free?? Because of blended fruit being syns, I think the veg is okay but worrying about the lentils Confused also had smoked paprika in and wasn't sure if that's free? On the website it says normal paprika is so was hoping it's the same Blush well done to all of you on your weight loss so far! Hoping I'll be doing the same soon Smile

BulaBaby · 26/01/2017 20:02

Hi all. My WI was this morning. 1.5lbs off. Got my half stone certificate.

BasinHaircut · 26/01/2017 20:11

Well done bula

pink I think blended veg is fine, but I'm sure someone who knows for sure will be along in a minute.

Dinner tonight was a bit weird as I realised I had mash on the menu for 2 nights in a row so instead of mash on the cottage pie tonight we had tinned potatoes with the cottage pie base, roasted carrots and green beans.

YoureMyWifeNowDave · 26/01/2017 20:18

pink my consultant was talking about smoothies last week and she said that while fruit ones had syns vegetable smoothies were free so blended veggies must still be free

Frouby · 26/01/2017 20:24

Randomer everyone is different. As I said upthread I don't have a big appetite and can go until 2.30pm easily without eating and not feel hungry. I didn't even eat my hifi bars for lunch today! I think it depends on your metabolism. Mine must be really slow.

But if I ate breakfast I would be eating all fecking day. And I wouldn't lose weight.

Despite what the books say I do think it is possible to over eat speed food. Fruit for instance is naturally sweet and sugary tho obviously full of fibre and vitamins. But a bowl of strawberries and raspberries with ff yoghurt could easily be 300 calories.

You need to eat to your appetite. Not just because you can. If you are hungry eat. Eat until you are satisfied then stop. Everyone has different appetites. Everyone has different activity levels. Everyone has different metabolisms.

I have found now I am 2 stone lighter I don't need to eat as much! Presumably because I am not burning as many calories just walking around.

FaithAgain · 26/01/2017 20:32

Brilliant Bula!

I think blended veg is fine. I have loads of homemade soup made with bullion which is free! Blended fruit counts because when you blend/cook fruit it alters its structure and changes how you process the sugars or something

I eat a lot! I've just changed what I eat. I've been hungry today actually, should have smacked more!
Today looks like this:
B: GF cereal and milk (HEA &B)
L: Home made butternut squash and sweet potato soup with 1 slice of bread and butter (5 1/2 syns)
D: Spaghetti bolognese with cheddar (3 syns)
S: GF pretzels (3), Cadbury lighlights hot chocolate (2), apple. I'll probably have a banana in a bit too.

Buttwing · 26/01/2017 20:52

Yes veg is fine. The blended fruit is an issue purely because you will eat more of it and it's full of sugar Nothing to do with anything else as frouby said. The chances of you sitting down and eating two apples, half a punnet of strawberries, a banana, and a couple of oranges are slim but it's easily consumed in a smoothy and probably won't really fill you up that much.
I personally use common sense with it if I'm going eat a banana and mash it on a piece of toast with a bit of cinnamon I'm not going to syn it or if I bake an apple I won't either. I think you just have to be sensible.

Pardalis · 26/01/2017 21:23

Hey people,

Another bad day for me. Had hexa in tea and coffee. Ate a plum and some fresh raspberries.
And a couple of large gin and tonics.

Have hit a bit of despondency and rebelling!

Lunch is a hard one for me. I work in town and there isn't much that's free, cheap and tasty. Although I am tempted to try Pret's bone broth. No idea whether it's something to syn or not and a search of the internet reveals no clues!

randomer · 26/01/2017 21:36

Faithagain...that looks do able to me. Thanks for all helpful replies.
