Crap! Reading below I didn't realise that avocado was synned, that has buggered up yesterday!

WingDefence · 24/08/2016 07:28

Oh Positive I hope the surgery helps your new grandchild Flowers

chough · 24/08/2016 08:04

Morning, all.
October, syns for average sized avocado are 13 and a half( in old SW book).
Emily, your before and after photos are impressive: you look like a different person.
I like the new coconut hi-fi bars, although another member had told me that they taste " just like a Bounty", and I really wouldn't go that far.

EmilyK83 · 24/08/2016 08:21

Thanks Chough!

Yeah, avocado syns are high, sadly - think it's 9.5 per 100g.

WingDefence · 24/08/2016 11:23

Right, as I'm doing the scan bran challenge I've had to up my water intake. So I dug out one of those infuser water bottle things I got free at last month's conference and put strawberries in it. What a revelation! I love my sugar-free vimto but water lightly tasting of strawberries was amazing! And it got better as the day went on so I was even drinking it in front of the tv last night.

Anyway B apple, banana and free lemon yogurt.
L going out to a new cafe which apparently has interesting salads on so looking forward to that.
D not sure yet.
In between - making a choc orange scan bran cake at the moment. In fact it must be nearly ready Grin

wishingchair1 · 24/08/2016 12:15

Wing let me know how your scan bran cake goes. I may try again after the last batch.

chough · 24/08/2016 12:19

A nice accompaniment for scan bran cake: sachet of chocolate Options ( 2 syns), whisked into a small pot of Total 0% fat; and a little sweetener/ vanilla essence if you like.

maygirl · 24/08/2016 14:54

B tried a new cereal, quaker oats wholesome crunch granola heB, on yogurt.
L pasta, heB cheese on top, melted under grill, small portion with loads of salad.
Yogurt and fruit.
D something veggie, probably chickpea or lentil curry after weigh in. Going to weigh and go gym instead of staying to class this week. Hope to get new mag and hi fi bounty bars!

WingDefence · 24/08/2016 16:07

The cake is edible! Grin I can't quite believe I get to eat a whole one for my HexB!

Recipe: 5 scan bran blitzed (I just crushed mine up as small as poss by hand) (HexB or 5.5 syns)
3 tbsp sweetener
1 sachet Options hot choc (1.5 syns)
3 eggs, separated
1 capful of orange essence (optional but I would say it definitely makes the difference)

Mix all dry ingredients. Add yolks and orange essence. Whisk egg whites to a stiff peak and fold into mixture one spoonful at a time, trying to retain the air as much as possible. Spray a 1lb silicone loaf tin with frylight, add the mixture and bake in a preheated oven at 180/160 (fan) for 15 minutes. It's a bit dry but completely edible on its own and that's fine by me as usually SB or weetabix cakes come out too wet and soggy.

For lunch I had a delicious and huge salad with figs, roasted beetroot, goat's cheese (counted as my HexA), tons of salad leaves, grapes, strawberries, other normal salad bits etc. Delicious and I only counted 2 syns for any residual oil on the beetroot as I left the dressing in the pot.

Very annoyingly though I had a can of San Pellegrino orange - seven syns Shock. Not impressed!

EmilyK83 · 24/08/2016 16:23

Yay, glad the scan bran cake worked!!

Had a trawl round Asda earlier, and discovered that their cottage cheese with red pepper and sweet chilli is syn free...it looks disgusting but it's actually not bad. And some of those Singapore noodle Naked Noodle pots as they're syn free and people keep raving about them in a Facebook group I'm in...

froubylou · 24/08/2016 18:31

Hello all

That cake sounds lovely. I am going to do scan bran when I am back off my holidays in a couple of weeks. I might have a look at doing a cherry Bakewell one. Reckon you can swap the orange essense for almond essence and maybe a different flavour options. Not sure what flavours they do?

Had Wi this morning. Lost 1lb which means I finally got my 1.5 stone award. Been a couple of lbs off it for weeks but been hit and miss.

Been out all day today. Didn't do too bad. Had sw quiche for brunch before we went. Fruit out and about and had one egg and salad cream roll right at the end of the day as was starving.

Unfortunately I am too knackered to cook so having curry but have walked miles so hoping it negates it.

kelseymcmanus75 · 24/08/2016 18:36

Hi, could anyone give me a quick run down on how slimming world works, what are the plans and what's healthy extras and supefoods and how do syns work. Done some research but quite confusing at the same time just want to write it all down. I want to give this a go for a week or so if I find it suits me I'll start going to the groups I don't want to waste money on something that's no good to be. All your help would be appreciated. Thank you.

EmilyK83 · 24/08/2016 19:19

Well done frouby, that's brilliant!

Kelsey - essentially there's a few different food groups:

  • Speed - certain fruit and veg that they recommend make up 1/3 of each meal
  • Free food - things like lean meat, fish, pulses, rice, pasta - which you can eat as much of as you need to feel full
  • Healthy A - dairy (milk or cheese) - a measured amount each day
  • Healthy B - fibre (things like cereal, cereal bars, bread, dried fruit, nuts) - a measured amount each day
  • Syns - everything else has a syn value, you're allowed 5-15 or 20 syns each day, depending on your starting weight...

That's the absolute basics!

ALemonyPea · 24/08/2016 20:00

Evening.

Is Scran bran £1.25 a packet, or is it for all 5 packets for the week? Tempted to buy some and do the challenge. All the different recipes sound interesting.

Went to the cinema today, ate far too much popcorn, should have planned ahead and ate dinner before I went. Wil have less syns the next few days to make up for it.

B: baked oats with blueberries (1syn as cooked), nectarine and orange
D: popcorn 😳
T: chicken noodle stir fry

Now, this is going to sound so silly, but I'm going out in Monday night, and I'm terrified. I get weighted on the Tuesday morning and I'm worried about putting on. We are going to a Brazilian barbecue, which is just meat and salad really, and I can save my syns for a few days before as well. As long as I don't drink alcohol, I should be ok right?

WaddlingClothes · 24/08/2016 20:30

SW newbie here. I did SW several years ago when it was RED/GREEN. The extra easy is so much better. I don't lose weight very easily. I've always done tons of exercise (every week I am over 70,000 steps - so more than 10K per day) and all I seem to do is put on weight. So, I'm only going for a 1lb a week loss and that's all I have done in two weeks (well 1.5lb in first week and 1lb in second). I started at 17 st 2.5 lbs so now I'm 17 stone. I have a long way to go and it will probably take me two years to get to the 10 stone I would like to be. But I'm determined to do it this time. This thread is really helpful for ideas and to keep in the SW mindset Smile. Your stories are inspirational!

emwithme · 24/08/2016 21:31

Lemony Scan bran is £1.20 per packet and each packet is 10 slices (so 2 x HEB). The scan bran challenge is generally scan bran as your HEB for 5 days so you need 3 packets (well, 2.5 but you can't buy half a packet).

Don't worry too much about the eating out the night before WI. I've found that a Wednesday night out before a Thursday WI is probably the best for me - as long as I've had a poo before WI Blush that is. If I go out on a Thursday I find it difficult to get my head back in the game, ditto a weekend night, but on a Wednesday I have the food, have what I want, and then back on the plan refocused the next morning at group!

Today's food:

B: Muffins
L: Ham salad, apple, pear, satsuma
D: Chicken noodle stir fry
HEA: Milk
HEB: Ryvita (with cottage cheese and cheery tomatoes)

WI tomorrow morning I have worried the day before every weigh in every time I do this. Not sure why, as I follow (and trust) the plan well, 80% of the time

ALemonyPea · 24/08/2016 21:36

Haha Em, I was actually thinking that if I have a poo before I go I'll be fine.

What's the best drink to drink? Spirits and diet mixer? It's DHs birthday and last year he didn't celebrate because his mam had just died so feel I should have a couple of drinks with him.

Thanks for the info on scran bran. Might give it a go once kids are back at school.

ALemonyPea · 24/08/2016 21:37

Also, good ,luck with youR WI. I never sleep properly the night before WI. Have funny dreams about getting weighed and putting it all back in again.

BasinHaircut · 24/08/2016 21:55

Second successful day on plan! Woo hoo!

B - fruit and Fage total yoghurt
L - SW falafel, rice and beetroot
D - SW spag bol and green beans
Sn - glass of milk (HEXA)

Whoops, just realised I haven't had a HEXB!

emwithme · 24/08/2016 22:51

DH actually said that eating out the night before WI is probably best because you've taken in the food, you've yet to completely convert it to calories/store it down as fat or whatever the technical term is but have pooed most of it out hopefully before you weigh in so win-win.

And yes to the "stand on scales...gained it all back" dream. Have it every week and have done for the past 14 months. Yay.

EmilyK83 · 25/08/2016 07:42

Hi Waddling!

Lemony, should be fine - agree with what Em said! Grin spirits and diet mixers make sense, could maybe alternate alcoholic drinks with non-alcoholic drinks to save more syns too?

Finished yesterday on 12 syns yesterday - made sure I saved plenty for treats while watching GBBO, would've been torture otherwise!!

Today's plan:

B - melon and green tea
L - Naked Noodles Singapore noodle pot and stir fry veg
D - Bolognese, jacket potato and salad

Probably Hifi bars as HexB, no idea about HexA. Possibly a skinny latte, might go out for a walk later and grab a skinny latte en route. Aiming for around 10 syns again, some of which will definitely be Flora Buttery on my jacket...

madasa · 25/08/2016 08:02

I think having a poo before WI is eminently sensible, as is shaving your legs, plucking your eyebrows, blowing your nose and balancing on your big toes on the scales

froubylou · 25/08/2016 08:49

Pooing before Wi as well as numerous wees is the way to go!

Today's plan

B. Coffee
L. Dunno yet.
T. Fish, veg, new potatoes

HeA in coffee, heb hifi bars. Syns will be a smidgen of sauce on my fish, possibly a g and t.

We go away next weekend and am trying for a good week this week to counteract any gains. However star week is approaching so might affect the scales. But once we are back from holiday the dcs are back at school and dp goes onto afters shifts. If he is on afters me and the dcs eat more simply and I don't usually have a gin. And I will be doing proper lunches for him so will be meal planning more.

Hoping for good losses during September and into October.

And had a NSV yesterday. Went out for the day with the family and my sister took some photos and I didn't cringe when I saw them. I definitely need new bras though. Mine are about 2 cup sizes and 2 band sizes too big and I look a bit saggy. Was going to wait to buy some but think I need a couple now.

WingDefence · 25/08/2016 09:44

frouby my boobs have always been small so now they are just sad approximations, Why oh why can't fat come off my thighs and belly first? Hmm

Forgot to make overnight scan bran for breakfast so I'll make it later and have it for tea - we're off to a church BBQ so I can eat that beforehand and perhaps just have a sausage on its own later. The BBQ also gives me a good reason for the DCs as to why I'm eating that beforehand as they will probably have a slice of toast as well to keep them going (BBQ won't be til 7 and we normally eat 5-5:30 so they will be very hungry by then if not). I'm trying not to let them know I'm 'slimming', which is another reason why I like SW so much - the meals are so family friendly the DCs never know they are 'healthy' meals :)

WingDefence · 25/08/2016 09:45

And talking about poo (!), that's why the scan bran challenge is meant to work...
