Another are you doing mfp in conjunction with SW?

We are away this weekend with my feeder mum and it's been quite a boozy weekend, 3 glasses yesterday. I can't make WI on Monday so should try and find another one... Has anyone noticed big differences between lunch and evening weigh ins? Would rather miss it completely if I'm going to get a disappointing weigh in one evening Confused

hstar1995 · 08/02/2015 10:04

Hi everyoneSmile I joined sw 5 weeks ago and have lost 6 pounds. Not very much really but I have been having takeaways and nights out drinking so not really surprised. Aiming for at least my half stone award next week and hoping if I stick to it for the next 3 weeks I'll have lost a stone by the end of February

Worryingwombat · 08/02/2015 21:07

Welcome h star! Every bit helps and at least you are losing Grin

What's mfp??? Please enlighten me Grin

It's My Fitness Pal, an app on which you record everything you eat by calorific value. So in lots of ways it goes against SW methodology, which was why I was wondering if another was sort of doing both at the same time. I imagine if you followed SW but kept in mind calories then it might work a lot faster or not work at all, what do I know Grin

anothernumberone · 08/02/2015 22:49

No babs I am just using MfP and stealing all your slimming world recipe suggestions. I did SW before but the leader drives me around the twist. She reminds me of the lady from Little Britain fat fighters. Dust anyone? high fat, low fat, dust.

BabsUnited · 09/02/2015 09:58

haha another! I loved that sketch. Not great if it's in real life though!

trinitybleu · 09/02/2015 13:16

wombat this thread has inspired me. I have a similar amount to loose. How much have you lost in how long?

Worryingwombat · 09/02/2015 16:30

Thanks guys been looking at my fitness pal all day lol!!

Trinity I have lost 3 stone 1lb in 14 weeks Grin this does include a lb gain over xmas!! Lol

Very happy it has already changed my life!!

Can not wait for this week at group would love 3lb off to see that 18st 13lb on the scale!! Just to see that 18 will be amazing!! Can not believe just 3 months ago I was staring at 22stone 3lb!! GrinGrin

If I can do it with all my issues anyone can do it!!

OP posts:
trinitybleu · 09/02/2015 16:44

That's amazing. If I could loose at that speed, I'd be happy. I always loose faith as 2lb a week is a bloody long time of being good!

MisForMumNotMaid · 09/02/2015 17:26

The way I try to look at it is that the aim is to be a bit less on the scales each week whilst living. 2lb a week is a fantastic loss. It would soon become very challenging if you feel constantly hungry and are depriving yourself of all things you see as nice and avoiding all social activities for fear of food and drink.

Slimming world has worked for me because I can still have a roast at my mums (albeit with 1 glass of wine, trimmed meat and small pud serving rather than half a bottle of wine, meat with fat, lashings of fatty gravy and seconds of pudding). Sounds rather glutenous now but my mums a great cook.

I can still go out to restaurants with the children like yesterday we went to the Harvester and I had lots of stuff from the salad cart, grilled chicken and jacket potato and a big spoon of my daughters ice-cream. I didn't have any wine instead I had some chocolate with coffee when we got home.

My weight didn't suddenly get to great numbers it crept up over many many years, with the odd stone or three lost and regained more than once. Its going to be something that I have to monitor for life. I like food too much. Thats fine. Slimming world has taught me nothing is wrong, no foods are too bad to eat its just striking the balance of filling foods and pleasurable ones that mean I have a slight loss rather than a continuous slight gain.

Maybe its not worth looking at the end game/ total loss, rather enjoy the journey. Plan in your meals out and family events and plan in new clothes in a size down for each big event. Smaller achievable targets work oddly well. I'm still embarrassed at the pleasure I get from each shiny sticker and certificate, i know I'm not the only one on thread who gets a buzz from the rewards.

The MFP recipe builder is good for working out balance of a meal as well as calories. Oh and the exercise tracker is good. If you're on a tablet/ smart phone with camera you can scan a products barcode to add it to your menu calories and all. Slimming world could learn a lot from the MFP app.

Calzone is it going to be the big first stone this week?

hstar 6lb is 6lb. Don't knock it. Think how easy it could have been 6lb on if you weren't thinking about the plan. You sound pretty motivated 1 stone end of feb sounds like a plan.

hstar1995 · 09/02/2015 19:24

Feel a bit silly writing this but feel a bit upset Sad I mentioned to my flatmate that I've lost 6 pounds, cos I was a bit proud - after all a loss is a loss - and hoped she'd be positive, but She was really negative. She said that that's not a lot to lose over 4 weeks (and I suppose she is right) and maybe I wasn't trying enough? I tend to save my syns for a baguette on Friday, but she said I wouldn't see any results unless I stopped everything completely and maybe it's my own fault I'm not losing. Of course I know it is my fault but hearing someone saying it out loud just makes me feel like crap, I was really positive and I feel like I haven't really achieved anything. I look at people who joined the same time as me and have lost a stone of near enough and then there's Me, who's barely lost anything. Feel so down Sad.

MisForMumNotMaid · 09/02/2015 19:40

hstar. Why do you want to lose weight? What is it you want from it?

Do you want to improve health (10% target), reach 25 BMI, half waist to height, healthy hip to waist stats, fit into a size 14/12/10, special event, feel good in a swimsuit, improve your self esteem?

If you want to crash diet there are lots of supplement diets around like Cambridge diet etc. they work in the sense people see results, you don't live whilst your doing it and you still have a massive how to eat learning curve at the end of the diet.

Don't compare yourself to others. My DH can pig out, eat double me, have a takeaway and still lose 2lb. I'll faithfully stick to plan, very low syn, masses of walking and lose 1lb. It frankly sucks but thats how it is, we're all just different. I've had skinny friends who appear to eat and drink masses too. Its just not fair.

6lb over a month is real weight loss. Not a bit of water fluctuation. As you admit you have lived and lost. If this is going to work for you, you need to strike the right balance for you. You talked about upping losses a bit to get to a stone by end of February. Thats achievable but would require a bit of commitment.

Is it possible that a nerves been hit because underneath whilst you're pleased with 6lb you wanted more and feel a bit dissapointed?

Whats on the meal plan this week? Planning out tasty stuff definately ups losses. Don't forget to work in plenty of nice treats. Have some nice syn free Flowers

hstar1995 · 09/02/2015 19:57

Hi mum not maid. Thank you for your kind words,I think you are right because I'm a bit disappointed but then I know I've not eaten the best so I'll give it more of a go. My goal is to be a size 12, the size I used to be before I gained the weight. I just had a bit of a low moment, but onwards and upwards (at least I didn't reach for chocolate unlike every other timeGrin ). I had sw Bolognese for tea tonight, tommorrow is sausages, Bisto, smash and carrots (6 syns), Wednesday is blt burgers from this month's magazine, Thursday is chicken stir fry with packet sauce (5 syns), Friday is chicken curry and rice (4 syns) and Saturday chicken, herbs and cous cous.

I think portion sizes are an issue for me so I'm going to cut down on my portion sizes and just put extra salad on my plate. I drink a lot of Pepsi max which although free can't be brilliant, so I'm going to swap to sugar free squash and have say 2 cans a week not 1 a day. I already use fry light etc, but I'm going to start using my syns on healthy options (eg, having ryvita at lunch then synning the hifi bar instead of eating a chocolate biscuit)

anothernumberone · 09/02/2015 20:45

HStar* I lost 7 lbs in over a month and I am thrilled with the weight loss. It was really slow coming off and then bang a dip. Hormones, getting over the outrageous overindulgence at Christmas and probably other factors too meant I just lost very slowly and very steadily. I am trying to get back to my pre baby weight the first baby is now aged 9 but it is different now I have finished having children and I am inching closer to a big birthday. I want it to go for ever and my commitment is that whatever I do I keep up well after I lose the weight. This is definitely for life for me. I need to I have lost and put on the same couple of stones 3 times now with each child.

MisForMumNotMaid · 09/02/2015 20:46

You sound very organised.

Portion size does obviously have an impact on calories and loss but no where near as much as being ultra good, then going hungry and reaching for the wrong things. Another of these balance games that we'll all fathom over time.

I love mini green and blacks bars 4.5 syns they're my comfort snack. I do reach for the wrong bloomin thing when emotional. I appear to be a very emotional person.

I drink fizzy stuff quite a bit. I have to watch the caffeine in coke though as I'd never sleep if I drank too much. Staying hydrated definitely helps loss, so better anything rather than not having enough liquid. I also quite like hot black current as an alternative hot drink that doesn't use up my healthy a.

hstar1995 · 09/02/2015 21:08

I think I need to make an effort to drink more water Grin I never liked it (mainly as it has no taste while coke etc does) but it's prob the best thing for me (if not weight loss then teeth) so I'm going to try drinking between 1 - 2 500ml coke bottles of it at first, as well as squash etc and see if I can get used to it, hopefully it'll aid the weight loss too

AMillionNameChangesLater · 09/02/2015 22:41

Hi

Please can I join? I can't ever get to group because I work shifts and weekends, but I still have my old SW books. Can I just use those or should I try working something out? I loved the EE eating plan, worked well in the past.

I was 16 stones 9lb April 2013, then I got pregnant, and I now weigh 12 stones 3lb. I want to get to 10 stones which is the upper range of my healthy range (I'm 5'5) Ive been doing couch to 5k too.

I need motivation

Worryingwombat · 09/02/2015 22:43

Hstar - 6lb is amazing! You have worked hard for it so feel proud of it!! And sod what anyone else thinks!! Are they 6lb lighter??? No!! So forget them!! Lol

If only lose 2lb a week and you say you get downhearted just think those 2lb each week add up to over 7 stone in a year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Wink

Your meal plans sound good I always plan every meal for the whole
Week!!

My tips!!

Get a big pan of speed soup on the go that will boost your losses! And is very filling and wholesome too! I have this most days for lunch as I just love soup!!!

When you have planned your meals look for tips and tricks to save Syns or make things free

One I just learnt was to make thick syn free gravy!

Oxo cube in a cup dissolved in boiling water then add some smash until thicken and bang! Syn free gravy!!Grin

We had it on Sunday for tea and it was very nice much better than just an oxo cube alone!

Go on the Sw website and make your own sauces and spice mixes saves Syns and lots of them Grin

A jar of chilli sauce is almost 17 Syns

Make your own using passata cumin coriander chilli powder pepper and other bits and bobs following the Sw beef and veg chilli and it's free Grin

Alpen bars are my sweet treat God send just the same as hi fi bars 2 as a heB or 3 Syns each

Drink!! No added sugar dilute is my savour!! I cut out all the fizzy pop! I have a can on a Thursday after group! This from me a women who would have 7 cans a day!!!! (Always diet but still)

Stay to group I find the support and advice very helpful! I now run the shop in our group so I have extra motivation to go to weigh in even when I feel I have done crap!!!

We may be big birds but we can shake it!! 4 weeks ago I joined the gym!! I weighed 20 stone! And you know what! I love it I do my program I go to classes like Sh'Bam dance fitness and Aquafit and go roller skating with my kids!! and it is fab I shake it with the best of them!!!! Do it you will never regret it Grin

Worryingwombat · 09/02/2015 22:47

Welcome million! Grin

Your books should work I think I few of the takeaway Syns have gone up

And most things are classed as speed or protein now apart from potatoes rice and pasta and a few other bits

But the extra easy premise is the same! Plan plan plan stick with it and it will workGrin

Any questions or if you need the syn values of something just ask Smile

OP posts:
Worryingwombat · 10/02/2015 23:20

Ok lonely here! Confused

Are you all at a party I was not invited too? Smile

Good day food wise
B weetabix and milk
L speed soup (left it chunky and much preferred it!)
T mushroom and pea frittata

2 alpen bars and 2 yoghurts

Off to the gym tomorrow and a sh bam class tomorrow night if I can get on! So popular Sh'Bam is at the moment I am on the wait list!!! Grin for anyone interested in trying it search for Sh'Bam 18 on u tube there are a few videos of the dances done in class at the moment! And the les mills site will give you the track lists!Grin

Looking forward to weigh in not cause I am expecting a good loss as in fact I feel very frumpy this week but because I will get my silver body magic awardGrin and I have worked my ass off for it!!

I think the best trick is find some form of exercise that you enjoy! I love Sh'Bam and Aquafit and my hubby makes gym sessions fun as well as kicking my ass playing squash!

My committed exercise has risen from 3 hours per week in the first week to 9hours 45mins last week!!

With the kids off school from Thursday we will have no gym time so planning on more family friendly fitness

Plans include

8mile bike ride (the kids and us already did this in the summer along the canal it almost killed me but hubby and the kids loved it so hope it's not too cold now!) will do this on two days

Fun swims with the kids!

Exploring 2 new parks in the area (lots of walking!)

Roller skating (a firm favourite!)

How's everyone else doing!!! Grin

Hi wombat I am around the place tonight.

BabsUnited · 11/02/2015 10:39

hey Wombat, sounds like you have some good plans! I am struggling to stay off the choc and crisps at the moment, I usually struggle close to AF but it's ages away Confused I feel quite stressed at the moment and it's not helping me make good choices as I want 'quick fixes'. I don't have time to fit in any scheduled exercise which I'm sure would help.

Maybe I could just try drinking more water, I know I don't drink enough. I had one glass yesterday Blush Lots of tea etc and a can of coke though. I just find if I drink much from around 6pm then I need to go to the toilet multiple times in the night. I've got a very weak bladder and have always had problems with holding it...sorry for the TMI. So I know I should try and get in enough water in the morning/during the day but I get embarrassed about having to go to the toilet so often. DOesn't help that one of our toilets has broken at work meaning there is ONE cubicle for about 35 of us. I can't always wait if there's someone already in there and I have to run up to another floor. I can't do that 20 times a day Sad Anyone else struggling with water/weeing!?

Worryingwombat · 11/02/2015 15:22

Hi babs! I have to take acetazolomide for my IIH and its a diuretic so I feel your pain with the consent trips to the loo! If I forget to take it early in a night! I am up and down to the loo till 3amGrin

MisForMumNotMaid · 12/02/2015 14:58

4st 5lb down or put another way today was a maintain.

It makes me smile when they go round the room and say 'so how much is it in total you've lost?' Its a nicer way than saying maintain/ gain I suppose. I am disappointed but I do appear to have a four weekly weight blip schedule and on the bright side its not a gain after three really good weeks losses.

We had a taster at group today. Someone made a lovely salsa and someone else did an actifry dish of sliced sweet potatos, bacon, chilli, herbs and cabbage. It was really nice. I let the side down and made chocolate meringue hearts, under a syn each but as someone loudly pointed out with I'm sure full intention of being heard, 'isn't it meant to be free food only!' I missed that bit when the taster was announced.

We've got half term too this week. I'm hoping to get the DC to some of the classes at the gym. DS1 wont but DS2 would probably enjoy some of the ball and wi fit type classes they do for kids in the hols. If I really push DH might even come along. DD is also just old enough to join in a few more activities.

We're planning lots of walks we live on the edge of a lovely big park and near town so can get every where by foot if we can motivate DS1. We're planning a few bike rides too. DD may have to go on the back of mine although she's. a bit big for her bike seat shes not yet pedalling well enough to keep up.
We've also joined the national trust so i can foresee lots of muddy walks and picnics this year.

I hope everyone has a good weigh in.

KinkyDorito · 12/02/2015 19:45

Saying hello and hoping to join. I'm a yo-yoer too and returned to SW 3 weeks ago. I want to try and make some more permanent changes as I am sick to death of going down, then going back up plus a little extra. I got my half stone last week (after 2 weeks) and will weigh-in on Saturday.

My job is ultra-demanding, so not doing great at upping my activity but hoping lighter nights will inspire me to try and get out a bit more.
