Wombat, look at you go with all your body magic! Well done!

I am really struggling this weekend. I have a cough and a cold and feel horrid, so just want some comfort food to get me through! Why is it so much harder when you're poorly? I just want a big bar of chocolate and hot buttered white toast for breakfast.

BabsUnited · 01/02/2015 12:19

Oh fruit loops it's tough when you're ill. Can you get your OH to make a nice shepherds pie/lasagne/jacket potato or something fairly SW friendly but really filling and comforting? A nice stew? FlowersBrew

Am ok thanks wombat, had a good weekend so far. I went out on fri and no doubt went over syns (had 3 cocktails - but none with fruit juice or added sugar to keep it lower - and dinner out which was a rabbit ragu and tagliatelle with big side salad. Could have been worse)

Curry last night but within syns. Lots of veg today in prep for WI tomorrow

fruitloopsandfruitshoots · 01/02/2015 12:41

Nice idea babs, but DH works from 7am-11pm on Sundays, so it's just me and DS here. He's suffering from a nasty cough and cold too, though luckily for him, he's being comforted by chocolate covered raisins and peanut butter sandwiches! We did share a banana earlier, but sadly i'd rather share the chocolate raisins! I was rather hoping that he'd want a duvet and film day, but sadly not!

MisForMumNotMaid · 01/02/2015 15:14

Fruitloops have you got honey and lemon in? Lemon juice is speed and honey is only 1syn for a level tea spoon. Its lousy trying to be good when your bodies shouting carbs. Have you any pot noodles or mug shots in? They're not so bad for an instant can't be doing with cooking carb fix.

Choc raisins aren't the devils food. 5.5syn for 25g so if the craving takes you you'd still be well within syns for the day.

I'm coming out the other side off illness and my appetite is back. I'm at that funny stage where I think I've eaten so little last week that the odd hot sugary doughnut after a stroll round a local reservoir this morning, wont matter. Neither will the gravy and giant Yorkshire pud with lunch.

Fortunately for me the doughnut van wasn't where it usually is and the DC worked out that 6 goes into 5, 2 each. So DH and I didn't have Yorkshires. 3 have actually ended up in the fridge having been taken off children with eyes bigger than their bellies.

I had a mini milk for pudding and plan my Sunday visit to the gym with the DC for swimming. I don't think I'll be pushing myself today it'll be more floating around than exercise.

I hope weigh in goes well tomorrow Babs.

Another I hope your feeling better. I'm sure the odd gain/ maintain actually helps things along a bit. It sort of challenges your system. My weights taken twenty years to get up to the level it was, its not going to be all gone in a few weeks but it will be gone at some point. Whens your next weigh in?

anothernumberone · 01/02/2015 20:27

Thanks for the welcome. I feel for you fruitloops being sick and losing weight are an awful combination. I had days of not eating last week and thought it might help me lose but not a chance the body cannot cope. I had a few occasions this weekend, dds birthday (I was really good and did not have any rubbish) and a planned night out (I was awful) and I have now realised that I have to take a leaf out of your books and either do MFP or slimming world because the plan I am on makes no allowance for real life. It was fun but I am dying today and I have eaten some crap today for the first time in weeks.

I am here to remind me to get back on track tomorrow.

BabsUnited · 02/02/2015 16:32

Half a pound down this week. Not amazing but better than a gain. Was secretly hoping for more tbh Blush Still, I did have a night out with cocktails...

I made the mexican chicken and rice dish which was in the December mag for dinner last night - it was SO good. Even fussy DH liked it. I had leftovers for my lunch today Grin Anyone else tried it? Really easy. Here's the recipe:

serves 4 (or 2 greedy people plus lunches)

Using fry light, spray 8 chicken thighs and brown them on both sides in a frying pan - 8-10 mins. Take out and rest on a plate.

Gently fry 3 finely chopped onions and two large garlic cloves for around 10 mins, with a few more sprays of fry light if the pan is dry.

Add the following to the onions: 2 tsp ground cumin, 2tsp sweet smoked paprika, 1 tsp chilli flakes, and 300g basmati rice. Fry for another 1-2 mins making sure all the rice is covered.

Into a shallow but large oven dish, put the rice mix on the bottom, layer on 4 whole peppers cut into strips (I only had 2 red peppers), and place chicken on top. Then pour over 650ml chicken stock. Cover in foil and bake for 35/40 mins*.

The recipe says bake for 30 mins but my chicken was pink and I had to put it back in.

MisForMumNotMaid · 02/02/2015 21:42

Half a pound is down, so its all the right direction. Living and losing.

I always want more too. It doesn't matter what the loss is, i always think just another pound and I would have been happier.

That Mexican chicken sounds good, i might just have to try it. How spicy was it? I'm wondering if my kids would try it. They enjoy mild curry and like rice based dishes. What temp did you bake at?

BabsUnited · 03/02/2015 00:01

It was pretty spicy, you could add less chilli to make milder then have the flakes at the table to add if you want more. Cooked at 190.

piggychops · 03/02/2015 13:46

2lb off today! Minor miracle as I have really struggled this week. That's 9lb off in total and 15lb to go Smile
Had a lovely lunch today. Fried up mushroom, onion, celery, peppers and carrot. Add soy sauce and chilli flakes. Serve with hot-smoked salmon and 2 oatcakes (4.5 Syns)

piggychops · 03/02/2015 13:49

combat thanks for posting the eating out stuff. We have a meal out in a couple of weeks time and I can't face the idea of a dry steak. Now I know what to estimate for sauce.

piggychops · 03/02/2015 13:50

Oh stupid autocorrect wombat!

BabsUnited · 03/02/2015 14:47

well done on your 2lbs piggy!!

piggychops · 03/02/2015 15:11

Thanks Babs , hang in there with yours. I decided that anything apart from a gain was ok. Some weeks are easier than others. As long as the graph has a general downwards trend it's ok.

Worryingwombat · 04/02/2015 14:16

Ok feel free to come and slap me!!!

I decided to weigh myself on our old home scales today!!

According to them I have put on 3lb!Hmm

Stupid stupid stupid of me!! It has sent me in a right downer HmmHmm

Slap meConfused

MisForMumNotMaid · 04/02/2015 15:38

Did you weigh at the same time of day?

Did you wear the same amount of clothes?

Did you eat/ drink just before weighing yourself?

My weight varies by exactly 3lb night to morning and my clothes add typically about 1.5lb but up to 3lb again. So in theory thats upto 6lb variation whilst maintaining! (Chipping that exclamation is just for you, i've never seen exclamation mark rage before, it made me smile)

I'm a home weigher. I know I shouldn't, but I do. Its a hard habit to break. I am thinking about trying to slowly drop off to alternate days etc and go by feel of clothes.

I would slap you but its really not my thing Grin

piggychops congratulations on your 2lb. It'll be time for a new user ID before long.

dexter73 · 04/02/2015 15:41

Wombat Sad, it could be because of the exercise you have started doing. Our consultant always warns that starting exercise can temporarily mean a gain. Also you will be toning up and losing inches with the exercise even if the scales don't show it.

piggychops · 04/02/2015 17:33

Worryingwombat · 04/02/2015 19:13

Well done piggy chops Grin

Well I kicked my own ass and instead of feeling down about it I have just dragged my own ass to a sh bam dance workout!!

Go me!! XxxSmile

MisForMumNotMaid · 05/02/2015 12:28

3lb off today. I'm actually happy with that for once. I had such a big loss last week (5lb mainly due to no appetite as ill) i was worried that I'd gain now I have an appetite again. I've been really careful counting every syn this week and really thinking about what I'm eating. I've had more syns than a typical week but a lot less free food. We've actually got muller lights at risk of going out of date.

4st 5lb down really not sure how much to loose now. Probably between 9lb and 1st 9lb

Worryingwombat · 05/02/2015 22:34

2.5 lbs off this week making a total of 12 lbs in 4 weeks. SmileSmile

Well done everyone!

Is anyone missing anything in particular?

anothernumberone · 07/02/2015 23:05

Calzone I am sitting on the couch here contemplating a glass of wine but I am up to my MFP calories. It is that God damn thread about alcohol being a class A drug that reminded me :-).
