It depends what the snack is. If it is free or superfree then you can just eat it, but if it isn't you can work out the syns but using the online calculator or a rough guide is 20 cals=1 syn.

MisForMumNotMaid · 01/01/2015 17:51

If you want to get a feel for snack foods, go on pinterest and search slimming world crisps, slimming world chocolate, slimming world ice lollies, slimming world alcohol etc.

Lots of people have created boards that show the variety of syns. For example a pack of french fries crisps is 4.5syn where as standard potato crisps are about 9 syns. A mini milk ice lollies is 1.5 syn (from memory) but a magnum is about 12 syns.

Its sort of obvious but it does help you with your either or choices. For each person those choices are unique. My sister is doing the plan too and is horrified that I choose crisps over champagne.

For me more often than not i'd rather have a magnum than a glass of wine. But most frequently i'll spread my treats and have a mini milk and a pack of french fries. I tend to be close to 5 syns most days as generally that allows me to have a treat and a bit of extra light mayo or similar with my meals.

1lb on. I'm pleased with that. I've really enjoyed Christmas. Had an unexpected but very pleasurable New Years Eve spectacularly off plan considering I'd planned on one slice of pizza and one glass of wine.

I polished off the whole pizza with the kids help and the bottle went in the bin with only DH and I drinking. It was my first ever fall off plan day.

I've had plenty of planned in, off plan days but it was the first time everything free falled.

I don't think I'll do a week of SP this week. Too many grapes and bananas in the house Grin.

I'm a little sad oil has dropped off the healthy B list. I need some oil in my diet due to severe Excema. I guess I'll just have to syn it.

oneowlgirl · 02/01/2015 19:08

That is excellent - I'd be so chuffed with 1lb & feel very nervous I'll have put on 1 stone!! Well done for staying so in control.

Worryingwombat · 02/01/2015 23:33

Whoop! Way to go mis!! Tiny gain!! We will both be back on track in to time!!

Happy new year ladies Smile i have hoisted my fat ass back onto the wagon Grin.

I Have a syn free stew on for dinner (yay for beef oxo cubes and bovril!) and im just deciding now what soup to make for lunch, one of the facebook pages i have 'liked' has a whole file on soups so I'm going to have a nosy now.

Anyone due a weigh in tomorrow, deep breaths. It prob won't be as bad as all that. I thought i'd gained half a stone (think mince pies are about 11 syns each and i ate at least two a day for a week) plus quality street (how feckin small are these now wtf??!) and plenty of other shite, but i 'only' gained 4 lol.

Not too bad really Blush

CoconutAmericano · 04/01/2015 12:49

wombat stop saying fat!! You are doing amazingly. You need to keep positive to keep going forward on this journey. You are a doer!! Flowers

Worryingwombat · 04/01/2015 13:02

Will do coconut!! X

Feeling ok today

B weetabix (heB)
L fish and beans and mushy peas
T mushy pea curry and salad Grin

All sp and feeling good

OP posts:
CoconutAmericano · 04/01/2015 13:05

Lots of mushy peas wombat good luck with that tomorrow Grin
Oh the make of my apple corer is Oxo. Still going strong a good 8 months after purchase and used most days between myself and the kids x

MisForMumNotMaid · 04/01/2015 13:16

I get what you mean about feeling fat. I think more/ or deeper about my weight now than i did before slimming world. In some ways i feel flabbier, which is ridiculous because of what I've lost, but its because I spend to much time analysing/ criticising my shape.

Often just before a big loss i feel particularly flabby, its like the fat goes physically and then things tighten up and when I'm wobblier I feel fatter, if that makes any sense at all.

What is it now to that magic 10% Wombat 4-5lb? Not so many weeks ago wasn't it your dream to have achieved that by end of January?

Another question to add to your list...are you doing food diaries to make sure your S and P columns are equal (not that any one day matters)? Peas, I will always claim, were stolen from my veg list by my consultant when she told me they were speed foods but not super free. Now P but not S! Peas were previously a big plate filler of mine and so easy out the can/ freezer.

MisForMumNotMaid · 04/01/2015 13:19

Coconut 4lb isn't so bad if you've had a great time. Its the unexplained gains that are devastating, expected ones are easier aren't they?

Are you SP planning?

CoconutAmericano · 04/01/2015 13:58

misfor i havent been to a class in a year. I am seriously thinking of going back. Original plan was to go in the morning but I will have the 2 year old with me which isnt ideal really for learning about the new plan. Might try get to another class this week on my own just for the initial talk. After that, dd can tag along Smile
Are you? It's very low carbing isn't it?

GlitterandSequins · 04/01/2015 15:06

I have fallen off the wagon in a rather dramatic style over Christmas but have just spent the last hour doing my SP meal plan for the week and I will get back on track!

Still getting a bit confused about things that you can have on EE but not on SP Confused hopefully it will all start to make sense soon!

MisForMumNotMaid · 04/01/2015 19:26

I'm not SP planning yet. I might in a week or so. Initially i didn't because I'd done my weeks shop. Now I'm not sure because I found low carbing very hard to fit in with family life, eating out, popping in with friends etc. i also found exercise like walking agonising without any carbs. I may however just be making excuses because whats familiar is easy.

oneowlgirl · 05/01/2015 15:37

My weigh in is Wednesday & I reckon I'll have put on 10lb Blush. I had a fab Christmas & New Year but really did drink & eat with complete abandon so only myself to blame!

Was considering not going as I'll be so embarrassed but got a lovely text from my consultant this morning who reminded me that it's a new pack & therefore new start, so I might pretend I'm a new member as if I'm right about my weight gain, likely I'll be heavier than when I joined her group a few months back!

(Still 3 stone lighter than when I originally joined SW 5 yrs ago, but back to being 2 stone above target Hmm)

MisForMumNotMaid · 05/01/2015 16:29

I like the alcoholics analogy that does the facebook rounds every so often, I know its a simplification and generalisation and no offence is meant to those who've struggled with alcohol but i really struggle with food so without direct experience it appears to make sense.

Its something along the lines of likening overeating to alcoholism but with alcoholics there is the possibility of never touching another drop to stay sober. With eating, its not optional.

This way of eating, low fat, controlled extras is not a diet. Its the way I need to have my mindset for ever more. Its slowly sinking in, but not 100% there. I think i'll have to go to group once a month for life.

Going back to group is a big step onto being in control and takes guts when you feel you're not where you want to be. Yeh, to your consultant for catching you just at the right time. My sister had a 10.5lb gain Fri am, end of last week. This week (she weighs at home) she's 6.5lb down. We know someone who calls it jelly weight. Let it hang around too long and it'll set. I like that analogy too because after a big gain if you reign it in it does appear to fall off quicker than regular weeks losses when you've been on plan for a while.

If you start again you'll get another club 10 free week 10 weeks after getting your club 10 too.

Worryingwombat · 05/01/2015 17:23

Evening!!

You speak so much since mis! I wish all of mine was jelly weight though!!Lol

B weetabix and milk
L veg soup
T Turkey burgers and salad

2alpen bars as second HeB
1 spoon 1000 Island sauce as 1 syn

Just syn valued up the kids selection boxes!! I am that desperate for a bit of chocolate!! I have never used all my daily Syns and now I just think perhaps I should be or at least having more than 1 or 2 a day!!

For info
Treat size curly wurlys are only 3.5 Syns!! Grin

OP posts:
dexter73 · 05/01/2015 17:28

Worryingwombat - how are you doing with the superfree now? I remember at the start of your thread you were struggling to eat it but was wondering if that had changed. We are encouraged to use our syns as most people seem to get better losses if they do for some reason.

MisForMumNotMaid · 05/01/2015 19:58

Alpen bars with 1000island sauce time to POAS!

Frozen curly wurlys are the way to go. They last longer. If you've any left its worth a try. Mine now live in the freezer. Even the DC prefer them frozen.

I think the philosophy of using your syns to lose more is planning them. People who don't plan them tend to have the odd dash of this, splash of that, small piece of cake, chunk of cheese when prepping the kids lunch boxes, square of chocolate from their DC because they haven't had any syns (actually I'm talking about me). Before you realise a no syn day is actually a 20 syn one.

CoconutAmericano · 06/01/2015 18:43

I made this soup today. It was delicious. Delicious enough for me to pass it on! I got it from one of the fb slimming groups

Gammon Broth

50g broth mix
2 gammon steaks
3 carrots
2 small onions
A few cubes of swede
1 leek
200g potato
50g pasta
2 veg oxo cubes

Method:

Soak the broth mix in some boiling water while you prepare the veg and meat.
Cook gammon as instructed. (I fried on pan in spray oil for few mins each side)
Chop all veg into bite size pieces. Add to pan with broth mix and oxo cubes. Add gammon chopped into pieces. Top up with water.
Cook for 30 mins then add pasta. Cook for another 10 mins.

Worryingwombat · 06/01/2015 22:19

Mis - it did read like that! But I promise I am not dipping alpen bars in 1000 Island sauce! Just listing my Syns for the day!! Grin

Thanks for the tip about the frozen curly wurlys I have chucked the rest in the freezer!! To give it a go Grin

Dexter - I still find it hard to fit my Syns in believe it or not I am eating more than I ever did before so feel full all the time like today I have had

B scrambled egg and beans (made by hubby Smile)
L carrot and coriander soup
T Turkey and veg curry with huge salad

Supper weetabix (heB and heA )
2 alpen bars (heB)

Syns 1000 Island sauce 2 Syns
A curly wurly treat size 3.5 Syns

So I have only had 5.5 Syns today and I am absolutely stuffed!!

My portions are not huge either the egg and beans I make to fit on a side plate as I hate eating early in the morning soup is a normal bowl or 2 if there is extra and while I have been following the sp plan I still make the main course just sub the Sw chips or rice or pasta for salad

Mis is right though I have to plan ALL my food and Syns as I could find it so easy to slip back in to old snacking habits!!

Really enjoying it!!

Coconut - soup sound fab and I have some gammon in the freezer so thanks for the tip!! Grin

You're very welcome wombat that soup's on my permanent list now!
Funny you should say about the gym. I emailed a gym today to enquire about fees. Thinking of rejoining. I haven't been since i was pg on dd 2 and she's 2/12 now Blush. I can guarantee you you will not be laughed at, sneered at, talked about. Once you get over the initial nervousness you should begin to look forward to your gym sessions. I used to love the 'me' time. Workout (nothing too mad!) and then a swim jacuzzi and sauna. My god, it was heaven when i look back. And every shape and size under the sun along with me. And good on them! Go for it!!!
