Hi all :) please may I join? I started SW on Thursday from home. I've done it before and lost 1 1/2 stone in 5 weeks. Now I have about 6-7 stones to lose Shock

I've been going for 40 minute power walks every day for the past few weeks, then since I started SW on Thursday, I've been doing the 30 Day Shred straight after my walk.

I've set my first goal of losing 7lb by June 2nd when we go away for a few days. A major goal is losing as much as possible by Jan 1st as we're going on holiday then and I want to look half decent! My long term goal though, is to hopefully get rid of PCOS and conceive.

Jinty64 · 13/05/2013 21:31

Welcome IsaacCox I have about the same to lose. I lost 2 stone with SW 2 years ago but had a family bereavement and put most of it back on.
I have lost 8lbs in the last 3 weeks which is good for me. It took about 8 months to lose the 2 stone.

I have been swimming whenever I can. I do 40 lengths and managed every day last week. I find walking quite difficult as I have a bad back.

I'm quite motivated at the moment. Long may it last!

muminthecity · 13/05/2013 21:32

Hello Isaac and welcome. I also have about 7 stone to lose in total, it seems like loads but SW is working well for me so far and I'm convinced I will get there eventually; I'm sure you will too!
I've been really good all week, a bit naughty yesterday but still only about 20 syns, and I had 10 or less every other day last week so hoping I'll still lose! WI is tomorrow.

I'm doing a sponsored 8 mile walk for St. Christopher's Hospice next weekend so hoping that will help me get a good loss next week!

IsaacCox · 13/05/2013 21:58

Thanks for the welcomes :)

Sorry for your loss, Jinty.

Well done though, 8lb is fab!

I love swimming, used to swim for my county when I was younger. I can't really get to a pool atm :( 40 lengths is amazing :)

I'm quite glad there are other people that have the same to lose IYKWIM. We can all do it together :)

Good luck on your walk next weekend, mumintthecity :)

I've been snacking on grapes tonight (I'm used to having chocolate or something to munch on all night!) I've just been in the kitchen to see if there was anything else I could have. I was good and came away with more grapes. Then 'D'H came in and ate a chocolate bar in front of me Angry

Think I'll go to bed soon to keep me from the kitchen!

IsaacCox · 13/05/2013 21:59

Oops, sorry for all the smileys, I got a bit carried away!

Fairygen · 14/05/2013 11:20

Damn you, chocolate biscuits!! [ blush]

Fairygen · 14/05/2013 11:21
Blush
WheresMyCow · 14/05/2013 12:23

Just popping in (all I seem to do at the moment) to congratulate everyone who lost or sts, and to welcome all the newbies Smile

I lost 0.5lb at WI on saturday, so just 3lbs to go to my one stone. DH has got bronchitis, so with the amount of running around that I've done since Saturday (and how good I've been) I might just get that this week.

TheDetective · 14/05/2013 15:49

Thanks for the earlier advice!

Can I run this past anyone?

After my first 2 weeks at losing 4.5lb, then 6lb, the night I came home after the second weigh in, I put 5lb back on?!?!?!

I had eaten chicken stew for tea - all veg, chicken, stock and syns came from a little cornflour.

I know you shouldn't be weighing yourself, but I do worry that I'm not doing it right.

So I figured it must have just been a stodgy dinner. Next morning I was still 5lb heavier. It isn't my scales btw, as they give me the exact same weight as the SW scales.

Since then (thursday) and today I have fluctuated from 15st6 to 15st10. I was 15st6 at last weigh in. I have only been 15st6 once (weighing self several times a day at the minute!) that was yesterday. Today I was 15st8.5 on waking, and 15st7.5 this afternoon.

I'm completely sticking to the plan by the way. I'm not sure what is going wrong.

My DP who is doing it with me is having a similar problem, but his isn't as extreme. He's hovering around the same weight he has been all week. But isn't losing.

We've cut out the diet fizzy drinks yesterday to see if that helps.

I've just started my period - although it was 5 days late. Not sure how much of a difference that should make though.

I'm dreading going to class on Thursday, as I know I've stuck to the plan, yet I've gained.

Help!

Fairygen · 14/05/2013 16:31

I put on about 7lbs around my period, and it usually drops off the next week ( plus maybe another lb)

I have to admit, I've been a bit of a scales bunny this week, hopping on and off every day at different times. Apart from today, when some biscuits got the better of me, I've been an angel....but only lost 1/2lb so far. I weigh thurs am.

I was sooo naughty last week and luckily sts, so I think I'm paying for it now. I'm trying to eat more consciously because I tend to eat food just because it's free, rather than because I'm hungry. I go through huge tubs of ff natural yoghurt with sweetener and fruit!!

Apparently your weight can naturally vary up to 5lbs a day.

Probably best to ask your consultant if you're worried.

Good luck for thurs.

WheresMyCow · 14/05/2013 16:54

Our consultant told us to take the batteries out of our scales at home so that we couldn't weigh ourselves!!

The more that you weigh yourself at home, the more that you worry about it and the more that you stress about it the more likely you are to fall off the wagon!

Like Fairygen said your weight can naturally vary during the day - depending on what you've had to eat, how much fluid you've drunk, whether you've been to the toilet Blush, the time of the month etc etc etc.

If you're following the plan and keeping a food diary so that you know what you are eating and not missing anything out, then you're doing it right. The food diary can highlight any potential problems - like eating too much "free" food just because it's free!! When I had a gain, with no particular reason for gaining, my consultant suggested to cut down on the amount of "free" foods I was eating, mainly I was eating alot of fruit, just because it was there.

I'm sure that you will be fine at WI on Thursday, but perhaps put on here what you're eating for your meals, snacks and syns, then we can have a look to see if there is anywhere you might be going wrong...or if you're eating anything really yummy that we'd never thought about eating Grin

IsaacCox · 14/05/2013 16:58

I'd say it is most likely because of your period, TheDetective. Especially since you've stuck to plan. Though I'm no expert, I don't have periods! Or it could just be natural fluctuations throughout the day.

I've been terrible today. Did the 30 day shred then had weetabix and milk. Then didn't eat anything for hours so when I did eventually get something, it wasn't enough and I binged :( I had a standard sized Milka bar, a 28g portion of chocolate raisens that I'd already portioned out to have at nights and a whole box of mikado Shock

I'm keeping a diary that I write down everything I eat, drink and exercises. Plus any thoughts like why I'm hungry or just little pieces of encouragement.

I know exactly where I went wrong today (we had no sw friendly stuff in until we go shopping later) so I gorged on bad stuff. Hopefully if I know where I'm going wrong, I can change it. I've made a plan for the week and got lots of low syn snacks to make.

TheDetective · 14/05/2013 17:06

Thank you! :)

I'll post what I had yesterday then, in case anyone sees anything I don't!

I suppose I do eat quite a lot though. But because it is free - you are told to eat as much as you like?! I am hungry when I eat it though!

Breakfast: Banana. (Don't like cereal and milk and my grill was broken - usually have grilled mushroom and tomato)

Snack - was going to eat 3 babybel lights as my HEA. Ate one and thought they were disgusting.

Lunch: 2 slices of nimble plain, and 2 slices of ham (don't eat sandwiches!!!) followed by muller light vanilla yoghurt.

Snack: Pear, and banana.

Tea: Syn free salt and pepper chicken and chips.

Evening time I have my syns - I had 4 jaffa cakes and a mini crunchie.

Today I've had a lie in - small baby, DP home!- so Breakfast has been fruit and muller light.

Small gap til lunch, and as not that hungry, I've cooked 2 small hot and spicy chicken fillets, which are free foods.

Dinner will be cheesy broccoli penne bake, with cheese as HEA.

Will probably have toast with jam on later this evening, and a kitkat. Using my syns.

Drinks all day are sugar free cordial.

TheDetective · 14/05/2013 17:08

I eat a lot of bananas, ham, chicken and eggs. These seem to be my preferred foods.

The way I have been doing it is to save my syns for the evenings mostly, perhaps using a couple with the evening meal if needed. I used to snack a lot after dinner, so I find by saving syns for then, stops me going mental in the crisp cupboard!

TheDetective · 14/05/2013 17:27

I should add there was lots of veg in both evening meals :)

Fairygen · 14/05/2013 19:21

I have roasted veg most evenings, using 1tbsp of olive oil (hexb). I've noticed the past couple of nights that I am really eating loads. A huge tray roasts down to not very much at all. There's no way I'd be able to eat half of it if it was just boiled!!

Think I need to take a look at my quantities ( thanks wheresmycow)

Jinty64 · 14/05/2013 19:58

I roast a lot of veg too. I use 2 tablespoons sweet chilli sauce and 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar and sprinkle it on, then roast.

Fairygen · 14/05/2013 20:10

Oh that sounds lovely jinty. I love balsamic vinegar.

Really going to try to work on portion sizes from now on, to cut down on the 'bulk', and eating just for the sake of it.

muminthecity · 14/05/2013 22:12

I lost 3lbs this week. Really happy with that, especially as I'm on my period and feel really heavy and bloated. That's 19lbs so far in 4 weeks so I'm well on track!

IsaacCox · 15/05/2013 06:26

Well done muminthecity, that's brilliant :)

I'm back on track today. Just woken up and going out for a walk once I'm wide awake if that's possible at this hour

Weigh in tomorrow morning. Fingers crossed I've not done too much damage.

Have a great day all.

WheresMyCow · 15/05/2013 09:18

Well done muminthecity you're doing really well Grin

Might have to try that next time I roast some veg Jinty. I always put balsamic vinegar on but adding the sweet chilli sauce sounds yummy.

Portion sizes was my big thing at first Fairygen - I was eating it just for the sake of it and because it was "free". I'd get past the point of being full, but carry on eating it, or eat it just because it was there whether I was hungry or not Blush Think that I've managed to get past that now!!

Hope that you managed to get out for a walk IsaacCox and good luck for your WI tomorrow Smile

TheDetective · 15/05/2013 09:53

I've just come back in to say it must be my period - weighed myself this morning, and I was down to 15st 4.5 YES!! 1.5lb off since last week. I'd like another 1.5 to drop off by tomorrow night so I can have my 1st award! 1st in 3 weeks would be awesome!

This is a really heavy period, and it was 5 days late, so I suppose it accounts for the fact I've been fighting the flab off me all week!

Have run out of eggs and veg. So trying to think of a healthy syn free lunch. I think I'm going to have to have some frozen chicken fillets out the freezer, and some fruit. Not the nicest or best lunch, but better than going down the butty shop!

Going out this afternoon for food shopping, so will stock up!

Tea tonight is vegetable skewers, and might make some chicken in a marinade to go with it. Will google recipes!

What do other people think about fizzy drinks by the way? I cut them out on Monday, as I figured it might not be helping weight loss. I was drinking pepsi max cherry. Any thoughts?

IsaacCox · 15/05/2013 09:53

Yes I did, WheresMyCow (great name btw :)) Then I did the shread after too. Shattered now!

I need to cut down on my portion sizes too, though I think that'll be hard for me. Baby steps.

IsaacCox · 15/05/2013 09:57

Well done TheDetective, that's great :) fingers crossed for the other 1.5lb.

BadRoly · 15/05/2013 10:04

Sorry I haven't been about and sorry I am ignoring your posts - I'm not but I'm on the phone and I lose track of who is who.

So 2 on this week. It's fair but I'm not happy. Hopefully this is the kick up the bum I need to get back on track. Very tearful this morning and had a proper binge yesterday Hmm But we're into a new week and I am NOT going to sabotage all my hard work at this stage.

Keep at it ladies - we can do it x
