When do babies REALLY sleep through! Be honest!!

So far on this 8 month journey of parenting we've tackled the usual sleep issues, cat naps etc. Night feedings etc, still going strong... slept through once at 6 months. Hasn't since. Anyway, long short of it. Every mum I know has the same stories. Multiple wakes, screaming sessions middle of the night, co-sleeping till 2years old on boob in bed... etc etc. Heard it all. We've done gentle sleep training and baby responded well but then hits a new phase or gets sick and it all goes tits up.

So tell me, when did your babe ACTUALLY sleep all night long? Like the 7-7 dream

DC1 about 8 months, we did sleep train as it was pretty awful before that.
DC2 is 7 weeks, and wakes every 90 minutes

happycamper11 · 27/01/2020 21:25

7-7?? I've a 10 and 7 year old and neither has ever slept 12 hours solid

whereareyousleep · 27/01/2020 21:32

My eldest is 6 he sleeps through maybe 5 out of 7 nights this is the best it's ever been for us and if he does wake it just involves taking him back to his bed. No amount of sleep training will make him sleep.

Youngest is 22 months and has slept 6.30-6.30 since around 15 months we have done no different with him than we did with eldest he just sleeps better.

whatswithtodaytoday · 27/01/2020 21:37

He hasn't done 7-7 yet because I haven't tried, but he slept through (9-6ish) from about 12 weeks and now at 11 months he usually sleeps 10-11 hours. We do get broken sleep when he's teething or ill, but mostly he's ok. I realise I'm very lucky!

yikesanotherbooboo · 27/01/2020 21:38

DD. Never , a grown adult now
DS1 7 months
DS2 about 11 years old

fellyjish · 27/01/2020 21:43

DS (now 8 months) sleeping through more often than he doesn't from about 6.5 months (he'll do a few nights in a row then be a nightmare for a night or two)

Still having a dreamfeed at 10.30 though so not sure if it counts?!

ShakespearesSisters · 27/01/2020 21:49

My eldest will be 8 years old next month. I've got enough fingers and toes to count all the times she has gone to bed and stayed there until it was time to get up. She still wakes at least once a night, decided to use the loo in our ensuite then crawls in between us. The six year old sleeps through 6 nights out of 7. Neither sleep more than a 10 hour stretch.

TeacupDrama · 27/01/2020 21:49

I only have DD she has always been a sleeper she still oves her bed
without waking me at night ie 11-6.30 about 2 months
8-7 about 5-6 months I don't think she has ever done 12 hours solid but 11 hours from 6 months until she was 6 then slowly going to bed later
apart from being ill and the occasional bad time she has slept ever since, she had a spell of sleeping with me from about age 2-3 when she could climb out of cot and she got a bed but preferred mine then I put cot bed at the end of my bed and she slept in my room until about 4.5
now she takes herself to bed just after 9 on a school night and sleeps till 7-7.30
my sister had 1 child like mine sleeping through at 2-3 months and another that has never needed more than 9 hours and could get by on 7-8 hours I don't think they slept through until they were 3

Lovewinemorethanhusband · 27/01/2020 21:53

I have 3 children, 1st was 10 weeks sleeping 8-7am, 2nd was 12 weeks sleeping 7-6am and 3rd baby was sleeping 7 - 8am at 8 weeks she's 8 months now and will go to sleep around 7.30ish then is asleep until 8 have to wake her for the older 2 scho runs and once home she has a bottle and goes back to bed!, she's a proper lazy bones though

Flaxmeadow · 27/01/2020 22:04

About 2 or 3 months (breastfed on demand)

TheBestSpoon · 27/01/2020 22:06

DS slept through for the first time the night before I went back to work when he was six months old! Little so and so couldn't wait to see the back of me, clearly. Grin And since then had only been up overnight occasionally. But he's never slept a full 12 hours. Life got a lot better when I realised he only needed 10 hours max, so putting him to bed a bit later (8ish) meant not being up in the early morning trying to get a wide awake baby back to bed. As he's gradually dropped naps, the night sleep has got a bit longer so now at 13 months he'll do about 11 hours overnight (8-7) with one nap of c.90 minutes in the day. We're even debating moving bedtime a bit earlier so we don't have to wake him on nursery days, but I have a paranoid fear of returning to the 5am wake up days...

We've been really lucky though - he's definitely a better than average sleeper. No idea where he got it from as by all accounts both DH and I were nightmares!

newbingepisodes · 27/01/2020 22:08

Ds1 - 11 weeks (breast fed)
DS 2 - 8 weeks (bottle fed)

VoyageInTheDark · 27/01/2020 22:10

Just started doing it at 2yrs 4mo. Fingers crossed it continues

PhantomErik · 27/01/2020 22:10

Mine all slept through from about 9 - 10 months.

It happened when they were weaning off being breastfed & on to 'solid' food.

DelurkingAJ · 27/01/2020 22:11

Never...DS1 started to sleep 8-6:30 when he started school...DS2 needs more sleep (say 8-7) but is not yet reliably sleeping through at nearly 4.

But (touch wood) they both eat well so swings and roundabouts.

CarolineIngalls · 27/01/2020 22:12

After the last tooth comes through and then intermittently until they are 5

MrsDrudge · 27/01/2020 22:15

First DD - 1 yr
second DD - 4.5 years

Kindlethefourth · 27/01/2020 22:16

From 10 ish to around 7.30. DD1 10
Weeks. DD 2 around ten days.

ItFigures · 27/01/2020 22:19

9 months.

Mon - Thurs 7.30 - 7
Fri - Sun - 8.30 - 9

Like her mother she loves her sleep.

Lipperfromchipper · 27/01/2020 22:20

They sleep through when you sleep train them. Confused...emmm ok!!NOT

You know whenever ppl ask me this in real life my first question to them is...well...do you sleep through from 7-7?? Because I surely don’t!! Most ppl wake or having “wakeful moments” throughout the night. It’s normal! It’s just that when it’s your baby or toddler etc it can be confusing, disorientating, scary etc etc.

Mine are 6 and 4- 5 out of 7 nights one or both of them will wake up for a drink or the toilet etc

I wake most nights for the same reasons (or because I hear something.

Hannah1990x · 27/01/2020 22:22

DD was 7 weeks Smile

PreseaCombatir · 27/01/2020 22:22

Mine ‘slept through’ from around 11-7 from six and twelves weeks respectively.
This was good enough for me to get a solid chunk of sleep, so perfect for me. Unless they were ill, they’ve ‘slept through’ since then, can’t remember when they started not having that last bottle, probably between a year and eighteen minths

Igottastartthinkingbee · 27/01/2020 22:25

Do you mean sleeping through for 12 hours on a regular basis? If so then both of mine were about 2 yrs old when a good night sleep happened more often than not. But there were still lots of wake ups between them for various reasons (maybe 2/3 nights out of 7?). Nowadays it’s a rarity to be woken in the night and that’s been the case since they were about 4yrs old.

Tatum1234 · 27/01/2020 22:26

Mine were 16m, 12m, 18m and 4m before they regularly slept 10-12 hours a night. All were breastfed and I didn’t do any sleep training.

NickMarlow · 27/01/2020 22:26

Dd1 would reliably go 8-5 from about 6 months and then go back to sleep until at least 7 after a feed. It all went to pot at 18 months and she was a terrible sleeper until nearly 4.

Dd2 was still waking multiple times a night until her first birthday, then it improved rapidly and shes been fairly reliably sleeping through since about 15 months.
