When do babies REALLY sleep through! Be honest!!

So far on this 8 month journey of parenting we've tackled the usual sleep issues, cat naps etc. Night feedings etc, still going strong... slept through once at 6 months. Hasn't since. Anyway, long short of it. Every mum I know has the same stories. Multiple wakes, screaming sessions middle of the night, co-sleeping till 2years old on boob in bed... etc etc. Heard it all. We've done gentle sleep training and baby responded well but then hits a new phase or gets sick and it all goes tits up.

So tell me, when did your babe ACTUALLY sleep all night long? Like the 7-7 dream

5 for DN.

ItIsAllChange · 27/01/2020 19:09

I know DC2 slept through by eight weeks because I was confident enough to invite someone to stay and knew she wouldn’t be awake in the night. With DC4, however, I’m still waiting...

SunshineCake · 27/01/2020 19:13

Can't remember the older two but the youngest was seven months. I was told to stop feeding him and then after three nights of doing pick up put down he slept through.

IHaveBrilloHair · 27/01/2020 19:17

Mine slept 12-6 from six weeks old, I then slowly moved bedtime earlier, and wake up later so by 6 months it was 9-9 which suited us.

MetallicPaints · 27/01/2020 19:18

5 years oldShockGrin

whiskeyandice · 27/01/2020 19:18

First one - 6 weeks
Second one - two and a half years.

Did all the same tricks as the first. Same routine. I'm certain that some kids just don't need to sleep that much. And I WAS the smug FTM who thought she cracked it because she had a kid that slept first time round.

jeremypaxo · 27/01/2020 19:19

7 months with a dream feed. 8 months without a dream feed.

CheekyFucker · 27/01/2020 19:22

DC1 6 weeks
DC2 9 weeks
DC3 7 years and counting.

They are all different.

arionater · 27/01/2020 19:23

Honestly neither of them have ever slept 7-7. They're 7 and 5 now. But older one does at least sleep through c 9-6.30 most of the time now. We've been really unlucky though I think. They sleep both less and less well than average. DH also doesn't need that much sleep so I blame him! Unfortunately I do.

Marmite27 · 27/01/2020 19:24

DC1, 6 weeks. Fed expressed milk in a bottle.
DC2, 11 months. Direct breast fed.

Marmite27 · 27/01/2020 19:25

But from 6 months ish, was only having one night feed at around 3:30/4am.

Daddylonglegs1965 · 27/01/2020 19:26

Bottle fed & did contented little baby so probably less than 3 months old.

HarryHarry · 27/01/2020 19:26

I asked this question a couple of weeks ago. My son is 21 months and he has done it maybe 10 times. Whenever we think we’ve finally cracked it he gets ill or starts teething and then we’re up all night with him again!

LeekMunchingSheepShagger · 27/01/2020 19:27

Neither of mine have ever done 12 hours overnight ...I always assumed that was a bit of a myth, but maybe not?

I think dd1 was doing 7 til 5/5.30 at around 12 weeks. Dd2 wanted milk at 4.30 til she was about 7 months.

riotlady · 27/01/2020 19:27

DD has done 8-8 fairly consistently since about 13 months, but we often have a couple weeks of wake ups if something disrupts her eg. growth spurt.

Hercwasonaroll · 27/01/2020 19:29

10 months ish for 7-7 (still had the occasional bf about 10pm).

Been pretty consistent since apart from illness.

user1019273703 · 27/01/2020 19:30

2 years 3 months and still waiting!

HavelockVetinari · 27/01/2020 19:31

Please don't sleep train before 6 months, it's really not good for the baby in spite of what @CoteDAzur says.

However, I do wish we'd done it at 6 months, DS was a nightmare till 19 months when we trained using the Ferber method. Within 5 nights he was sleeping 7 till 6, and soooooo much happier for it (as were we!). Dsis is a consultant paediatrician and says there is zero evidence for post-6 months sleep training being harmful in any way but plenty of evidence for it being beneficial.

LlamaPjama · 27/01/2020 19:32

My son is 5, and he hasn't slept through ever (unless we co-sleep) sorry to be the bearer of bad news

Kanga83 · 27/01/2020 19:32

7-7? My 6 year old has only just started sleeping 8pm (but in bed 7.30) until 7. My four year old is asleep if we sit with him until he sleeps by 7.30 but is feral and awake by 4.45 every morning, and usually wakes in the night to come into my room.

DesLynamsMoustache · 27/01/2020 19:34

DD has done it sporadically for quite a few months now, but as she's approaching one it's getting a bit more consistent. She's always been a good sleeper though, even as a newborn.

Pilot12 · 27/01/2020 19:36

18 months!

joffreyscoffees · 27/01/2020 19:36

I've been waiting 18 months, she's finally 'got it' this past 2 weeks. That being said, there's a regression at 18 months so she'll probably go back to being a nightmare again soon!

Monstermummymum · 27/01/2020 19:37

Still waiting at 2.5 yes 😭

KittenVsBox · 27/01/2020 19:38

DS1 7-7 never - and he wont now, as his bedtime is 9pm.
Not require me to spend my evening running up and down stairs to him, and allow me to stay in my bed all night? About 5 years. But I still dont believe he sleeps all night. I often hear him in the middle of the night talking to himself.

DS2 8-6, probably about 2 years. But only needed max one visit a night from about 6 months, and it wasnt every night from about a year.
