When do babies REALLY sleep through! Be honest!!

So far on this 8 month journey of parenting we've tackled the usual sleep issues, cat naps etc. Night feedings etc, still going strong... slept through once at 6 months. Hasn't since. Anyway, long short of it. Every mum I know has the same stories. Multiple wakes, screaming sessions middle of the night, co-sleeping till 2years old on boob in bed... etc etc. Heard it all. We've done gentle sleep training and baby responded well but then hits a new phase or gets sick and it all goes tits up.

So tell me, when did your babe ACTUALLY sleep all night long? Like the 7-7 dream

DC1 - 10 weeks
DC2 - 13/14 months.

Tbh DC1 went through spells as a toddler where he would wake every night for months, or take hours to get to sleep. He still suffers night terrors and they were more frequent when a year or so ago.

DC2, once he cracked it has rarely given us any trouble in the night, even when ill/teething.

It’s swings and roundabouts IME

Never.

meow1989 · 27/01/2020 19:40

Ds 19 months has been sleeping through (7.00 to 07.30) with maybe one wake for a dummy then straight back for about 6 months I think... at 8 months I was just putting him in his own room and there was definitely some waking.

Nowadays not sleeping through is the anomaly which is nice. Conversely my friends little one is a month older and is still waking and feeding several times a night.

DryIce · 27/01/2020 19:41

First one 7 months

Second is just over 11 months and did it for the first time last night

TimeMarchesOnNeverEnding · 27/01/2020 19:42

When the feel like it. The little sods.

peachgreen · 27/01/2020 19:42

About 5 months, bar the odd few nights here and there. Combination of being a big baby, being exhausted because she was a terrible napper, being very active and us prioritising night time sleep so being very firm about not taking her out of her room at night and keeping a very consistent bedtime routine. Also just sheer dumb luck. She likes her sleep.

Ingridla · 27/01/2020 19:43

10 months

toomanyleggings · 27/01/2020 19:43

My dd was probably 2

peachgreen · 27/01/2020 19:44

She now sleeps (or plays quietly in her cot) 6.30pm - 8.30am. I know. I'm blessed. I'm scared to have another one because I've been so spoiled and I know it won't happen again!

Mummyme87 · 27/01/2020 19:44

My now 5.5yr old started sleeping through at 13months but 7.15-6.30/7.

My youngest is 2yrs and has never slept longer than 7hrs, and that was only a handful of times. He currently sleeps one block of 4hrs then wakes hourly

okiedokieme · 27/01/2020 19:45

Age 6 or 7 ... not kidding

userabcname · 27/01/2020 19:45

7pm-7am?! You're having a laugh. 2.5yo here. I'd say we are pretty much guaranteed uninterrupted between roughly 11pm-5am (bedtime is at 7pm but takes a while to settle, up and down a bit, often an early start). Maybe a handful of times he's gone 10 hours without disturbing us. We now have a 3mo to add to the fun so clearly we are suckers for punishment!

Mandarinfish · 27/01/2020 19:45

For my three DC it ranged between 3 months and 3 years.

GoosesGeeses · 27/01/2020 19:46

DC1- 9 weeks old
DC2- 6 weeks old

Both exclusively breastfed. DC1 is now 3 though and is up at 4:30/5/5:30 every single morning no matter what I try 😬😬😬😬😬 so the good luck didn’t last!

greenflamingo · 27/01/2020 19:46

All of mine were about 4 months. But they’ve all had occasional waking for teething/nightmares/just fancying a cuddle intermittently after that.

gaffamate · 27/01/2020 19:47

Eldest was finally at 3.5 but then started school and all the tensions and anxieties manifest as multiple night wakings and very early starts

LolaLollypop · 27/01/2020 19:48

Putting it simply. When you stop breastfeeding!

Erismorn · 27/01/2020 19:48

DD1 started reliably sleeping 7-7 at 2 years 3 months. No sleeping training involved, but thinking back I do think it coincided with her dropping any sort of regular nap. She did still nap if a bit poorly etc. She is still an excellent sleeper at nearly six she didn't sleep for the first 18 months of her life so when the change happened it was immense

DD2 is 13 weeks and does 9-10 hours reasonably reliably. She does 12 - 13 hours with one wake up. She falls asleep in her crib and self settles, which DD1 never did. I think I'm far more chilled out, and also having DD1 means we are naturally in a routine, which I never really attempted with my first I'm waiting for it to all go horribly wrong

cutietooties · 27/01/2020 19:48

Ds 15 months dd 6 weeks

scrivette · 27/01/2020 19:50

My 2 year old usually wakes ones or twice a night, she has slept through about 12 times in her life.

My 4 year old has slept through every night for the last 5 nights for the first time ever, but that's probably because he is sleeping in my room
temporarily.

Shmithecat2 · 27/01/2020 19:52

4.3y and still waiting

NotYourHun · 27/01/2020 19:54

About 15 months for DS. He was an AWFUL sleeper (up every 45 minutes most nights) from 3.5-8 months. At 8 months we did some gentle sleep training and he slept 7-5 for a few months, then we had a really rough patch with allergies, teething etc. Now he’ll sleep 7-at least 6 most nights. Sometimes even 8! I’m not going to hold my breath though!

Mum2jenny · 27/01/2020 19:56

DC1 - 6 weeks
DC2 - 3 years

IvinghoeBeacon · 27/01/2020 19:58

My 20mo sleeps through most nights now but not 7-7, more like 7.30-5.30

tashakg89 · 27/01/2020 19:58

I was very luck my first slept 630/7 - 630/7 from 7 weeks. the second slept 7 till 530 from about 10 weeks but he went through stages where he'd wake up as early as 430 and be ready to start the day, he grew out of that when he was about two.
