OP posts:
Amberjee · 18/04/2007 17:28

ami, yep, i can often be seen in the parks pushing the pram over the bumpiest surface i can find to get him to sleep and then the smoothest surface i can find to keep him asleep. though whenever i get tempted to go into a shop or stop for a cuppa, he will no doubt wake up. i feel very fit though

cruisemum1 · 18/04/2007 17:30

hi all, all ok here. ds went down at 7:15 after a 5 min grizzle, woke at 11:30pm for a 5 min cry and then woke for day at 6:ish. we alwyas leave hm to chat in his room til he grizzles/cries. do you do that?
daytime naps are chaos at the mo. how are yours going?

Amberjee · 18/04/2007 17:30

apparently my LO woke at 10pm as well last night, but i didn't hear it, was fast asleep, and DH settled him. i think i was better off not knowing!

Amberjee · 18/04/2007 17:31

cruise, these days at night or early morning, if he's not crying, he's not getting my attention. i used to flinch at the slightest murmur, but now i just kid myself that maybe, just maybe he'll put himself back to sleep, or shut up long enough that i can get a quick nap in. usually doesn't work though.

Amberjee · 18/04/2007 17:33

5 x 30 min naps today. i have been on nap patrol. only one of those in the pram, the rest in cot. though i sure do wish he could consolidate into 2 or 3 longer sessions. oh well. i've put him for his last nap now, so hopefully he can go to bed a little later and sleep longer into the morning. stupid me for deluding myself!

cruisemum1 · 18/04/2007 17:52

crikey amber! sounds like a lot of naps but not much time covered iyswin . naps are pants here

Amberjee · 18/04/2007 18:06

yeah its so ridiculous, but if i don't get those 30 mins in, he has an absolute meltdown. somehow the cat naps seem to keep him functioning, though they barely keep me functioning.

redbeki · 18/04/2007 18:55

I stopped breastfeeding last week after constant feeding throughout the night,I got to the point of no return,so I decided to give bottles at night .After 9 days of feeling like my boobies are full of frozen peas,I now feel back to normal.
Dd has slept much better since ,and we've had 2 nights going from 7.30-6.30 a.m.I couldn't believe it.Last night though, she woke at 4.00a.m and was wide awake for 2 hours!
so today I've felt like a zombie again.
My main problem now is in the day,she 's never been very good at naps ,but she has 2 20 minute sleeps a day,and it's so tiring trying to entertain her all the time.
Maybe she is just a bad day sleeper, but I'm tired of it.

gingerninja · 18/04/2007 20:46

Amber, I've lost count of the number of times I've tried to extend DD's naps and I've tried all the techniques but nothing worked with the exception of her laying on me while watching the telly However yesterday she had the amazing 2 hour nap and today she had a 1 hour nap in the morning. I can't tell you how amazed I am. She has only slept for more than 30 mins on about three other occasions and never on consecutive days before. I'm hoping it's a new thing rather than a coincidence. There is hope.

Welcome back redbeki, haven't seen you for a while. Glad things are going well on a 'normal' night for you.

SO far DD must have woken 5 times and she's only been in bed 1 1/2 hours!

Amberjee · 19/04/2007 07:09

yay about the naps ginger - i hope it continues. i used to have DS sleep in my arms while i watched dvds too to make him nap. maybe i have to go back to that on the days i don't feel like trekking through a park for hours.

cruisemum1 · 19/04/2007 07:59

ginger - yippe for the naps . for the nights...
mor later
school run

amijee · 19/04/2007 08:19

oh dear - it's amazing how quickly your body reverts back to needing a full night's sleep and when it doesn't happen - you feel like crap.

My poor little lamb wasn't well yesterday - bit of a fever and clingy. I put him to bed with calpol knowing he wasn't gonna make it thru but he surprised me by slepping until 3am. ( trouble is, dh rolled in at midnight and started talking to me )

I brought ds into our bed at 3am but didn't feed him until 5.30am and the poor little thing kept rooting around looking for my breast. I think we both sleep worse together so tonight I'll give him a cuddle and put him back in his own bed. Seems a little better this am.

tibsy · 19/04/2007 08:49

mornin ladies and welcome back redbeki brill for your good nights, sorry about last night tho
ginger, the naps sound fab, hope lo settled after last night.
ami lo not feeling well
amber - phew. that IS a lot of naps, dd seemed to prefer it that way too, little and often, now it just seems to be little

well, i need a [guilty feeling mama] emoticon this a.m
put dd to bed at 7pm
woke at 12 and i tried holding her out cos thought she was trying it on [guilt]
when it lookedlike she wouldnt settle i thiought, if youre that hungry you'll take a bottle (she HATES the bottle).......and she did.
i felt SOOOOOOO guilty
someone please tell me i'm not an awful mama. today, dd will be latched on permanently to make up for it

amijee · 19/04/2007 09:33

how old is she tibsy? sorry to keep asking ages but I get mixed up how old everyone's LO's are.

You are a great mother - you wouldn't be on here trying to do the best for your kid if you weren't.

big hugs x

Tamdin · 19/04/2007 09:46

hey tibs. you know you rock xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

tibsy · 19/04/2007 10:30

thanks guys
ami, shes 8 months on the 27th.
really thought she was starting to cut back on night feeds. guess its the old 'growth spurt' again
on the + side, she went down for her nap with no boob, pushchair or cuddling so i guess i can trust the fact that when she does wake up at night now, its cos she IS hungry/thirsty she's really getting there with settling herself (fingers x'd it continues)

god all this makes me look like i'm having hot flushes

hope everyone having good days. got a friend coming over later with her 4 year old whirlwind! (didnt get around to telling you about her did i tam )

Tamdin · 19/04/2007 10:42

no you didn't tibs but i have one in my life too so totally sympathise. thing is that'll prob be me in 3 years and all my friends will be dreading me and ds coming over!

Tamdin · 19/04/2007 10:45

oh and do you know what i did yesterday....was talking to a new mum at playgroup and said "what age is your ds?"
she looked at me blankly for a split second and i said "oh i mean your son" major
can guess from that she's not a mn mum yet but it did occur to me that maybe i spend too much time on here if i can't even speak properly!!!

amijee · 19/04/2007 10:48

oh tamdin how funny!

I keep wanting to put grins on eamils!

tibsy · 19/04/2007 10:50

you berk!!!!

Tamdin · 19/04/2007 10:55

i know tibs and ami but just you wait it'll happen to you one day

gingerninja · 19/04/2007 11:32

Tibsy, you're not awful at all. It's amazing the guilt package that comes with these little things isn't it? I remember feeling guilty for about two days because I'd let DD fall asleep in a dirty nappy. I didn't realise at the time and was just flustered that she was fussing so much.

Tamdin, LOL I have almost done that soooooo many times, especially when talking about DH. God, glad it's not just me.

Ami, sorry your lo is poorly. I do worry about getting the luxury of sleep and then to have it cruely stollen from me again. I've even considered trying for DC2 as while I'm not getting any sleep..........

Well, she is having another long nap. Can't quite believe it. What has changed? It's been an hour so far. Having said that she kept me awake on and off between 3.15 and 6 with her kicking and squeeling. Was none to chuffed with her and told her off. Who knows what the deal is there. DH said, "I think she's in pain" What every night of her bloody life? So, I feel pretty shattered. Up to that point was having a good night and must have had a 5 hour stretch. So maybe it is getting better.

Tamdin · 19/04/2007 12:00

ginger for nap consistency. NCSS as you know says that once a lo is napping better in the day time then the nights will follow suit. hope this is the case for you. my ds was major pain last night. in and out of our bed every 2 hours but he had his first mmr single vaccine yesterday so didn't want to be too strict incase he wasn't feeling well

PavlovtheCat · 19/04/2007 12:35
