High-Need Baby Support Thread III

Well as I'm awake I thought I'd start thread 3!

The high-need baby thread has been moved from breast & bottle feeding to sleep. In the early days of the thread I think feeding was a significant issue for many of the posters. I think those that post regularly on the thread would now agree that's it's mainly sleep that's the issue.

So if your baby fits the following criteria come and join us for wine, chocolate, coffee and matchsticks as we delight in our active, inquisitive, curious and restless babies or toddlers!

  1. Feeds frequently daytime
  2. Feeds frequently nighttime
  3. Needs to be constantly held
  4. Wont sleep alone
  5. Hates the car seat/pram
  6. Short naps

Good morning all!!! In absolute disbelief as ds actually slept thru- properly from 8-6.30, where I woke him by panicking! (thinking the worst of course).
Now for the method: as he was no longer feeding, we took the plunge and did sleep training. Cc for 3 nights and it's worked! I got an app for the phone, you set the times you want to wait between settles (mine started at 2 mins and went up 1 minute each time), it reminds you to settle and then logs all the history for you. I know, it broke my heart, but I knew we'd get nowhere without some crying. He never got really upset either, and he knew we were in next room. So there you have it. Naps are better too. Could be a fluke, but I don't think so... But we'll seeWink. Hope you all got some sleep last night!!

Hi everyone, I've been meaning to catch up properly but its been manic with work and it was DS's first birthday today so I had a lot of planning!

He seems to have hit a new developmental leap and it's really affecting his sleep - he's currently wide awake on my knee and refusing to go to bed. Whenever I put him in his cot he crawls from one end to the other, pulls up and starts chewing the rail, doing a manic high pitched squark the whole time, then wants me to kiss him between the bars of the cot. It took 3 hours of this to get him to sleep last night!

DP is ill with hand foot and mouth and I'm not feeling too great either so I'm praying to the sleep gods that it gets better soon!

Hope you're all as well as can be and that tonight is a good night all round.

Absolutely non-stop here, been on the go from 7am till now. DS's first birthday party, completely shattered but a fantastic day. DS was a little star and had smiles and cuddles for everyone :)

More tomorrow, knackered! Have a good night ladies!

Joyful :( I hope you got some rest last night sweetie, sorry I wasnt around to offer hugs and support to you. Try and have a chilled one today, DH got his sleep last night I assume so make sure you get some today.

DS's actual birthday is next week, but we did his party yesterday as it was also my brothers birthday. Seems like we should have done the party today though, is that the sun I can see...?

Looking forward very much to heading to the south coast in a few days' time, hopefully get some lovely relaxing time while his nan goes bonkers over him :)

Joyful - cant help you there as DH has never really shared a bed with DS, as he's the lightest sleeper in the world. Can you and DH not have separate covers so they don't go across DS?

LittleWaveyLines · 16/07/2012 23:17

Joyful - I have DD on the outside (not that DP comes in very often) but even when on my own with DD I don't flip her over to change sides - I just lean in or lean back to feed her - then sleep on my back! I used to sleep curled round her when she was little but don't seem to feel the need now....

Have u considered just swapping bed sides with dp for a while? Although when we co slept ds was between us, and I just made sure the quilt stayed under my arms. I think you instinctively keep them safe anyway, I just reduced my pillows to one and pushed mine and dhs pillows way apart from each other, and ds was happily on the middle. We have a king sized bed so that helped tooSmile

The Bug has hit here too, dd poorly today, and now my nephew ( who was here all day with her), so just waiting now on the rest of house to get it....
Hope u feel better soon Joyful

Mampig · 18/07/2012 18:51

And now Dd 1 has sore tummy, seems to be spreading very fast Hmm

LittleWaveyLines · 18/07/2012 22:32

Bug here too :(

Mampig · 19/07/2012 14:07

Off work today, 3 of 4 dcs all got poorly overnight, was horrendous- although ds actually slept till 5!!! Miraculous given the commotion in the house last night!! Thankfully he started bf again a couple of days ago, and so far he is ok, he must've knew himself it was right for him, as I'm bound to have antibodies to the sickness. My supply has boosted again tooGrin.
All very tired here today, hope the bug passes soon for us all....
