High-Need Baby Support Thread III

Well as I'm awake I thought I'd start thread 3!

The high-need baby thread has been moved from breast & bottle feeding to sleep. In the early days of the thread I think feeding was a significant issue for many of the posters. I think those that post regularly on the thread would now agree that's it's mainly sleep that's the issue.

So if your baby fits the following criteria come and join us for wine, chocolate, coffee and matchsticks as we delight in our active, inquisitive, curious and restless babies or toddlers!

  1. Feeds frequently daytime
  2. Feeds frequently nighttime
  3. Needs to be constantly held
  4. Wont sleep alone
  5. Hates the car seat/pram
  6. Short naps

Urgh. Sleep is awful. DS has had a bug for a few days so has been pooing like it's an olympic sport and therefore got a nasty case of nappy rash.

LWL I think ds has finally got the hang of 'no' sometimes. He crawls over to the dog's bowl and sits there shaking his head saying 'nananana'. This is an improvement from the days where he would upend/sit in/tip it over.

Welcome back everyone!

tickleme63 · 09/07/2012 09:02

Morning all. I'm about to jinx myself into oblivion by telling you this.

He went to bed at 7.30pm. He woke at 1.50am for a quick feed. He went back to sleep. And then was up for the day at 6am.

Whether this sticks or not I guess we'll see. But I'm so happy to have got this far on minimal tears for DS.

Hope everyone is doing okay today. Button Sorry to hear of your little 'un's upset tummy and rash :( Hope he feels better soon. LWL I hope she gives you a better night, or at least a later morning. Joyful Hope your book morning goes well!

My ergo should hopefully turn up today. I hope so, or I will be Angry I want to play with it!

TitaniaP · 09/07/2012 11:13

Tickle that sounds like a massive step forward. If only DS would even contemplate DH going into him at night instead of me, then I might try something similar.

Sorry not been around much lately, it's been manic. DS is so close to walking, I'm back at work and trying to fit everything in. We still get no sleep (sorry make that "I" still get no sleep), but I'm every other way DS is a delight. He's chatty and smily and very sociable. My mum had him last week when I went back to work and he was pretty good all things considering. He did go into meltdown one day, but that was because she put him in his cot and tried to get him to sleep. Needless to say it didn't work!

So hope everyone is ok, I'm fine if a little knackered (well a little more than usual!)

Well, he woke at 11.50pm, fed, and then woke at 2am, but DH was able to settle him easily without picking him up. Then he woke at 4.30am so I fed him and he woke at 7am. So not as amazing as the night before, but still a zillion times better than we're used to...

Hope you are all okay. Titania Good to see you :)

buttonmoon78 · 10/07/2012 10:04

Stop gloating tickle Wink

Seriously, I hope it continues for you. On the few occasions where ds has had a good ish run of nights, it's made a huge difference to everything else!

LittleWaveyLines · 10/07/2012 14:56

Hey tickle - sounds fab!

Also good news - DD missed a couple of her feeds last night as well! Her double boosted double layer nappy was only slightly damp this morning rather than soggy..... shame I still woke up every 2 hours Hmm

You're allowed joyful - most of my posts on here end up as a whinge, and I don't really have anything to whinge about!

Could you do childminding?

In my area they are offering subsidies for the training.... but if you don't fancy it then it's not an option! Could you do any sort of tutoring or evening classes?

Joyful We're all here for you if you need to vent. If there's anything I can do, or any of us can do, just yell, okay?

The ergo has arrived and we like! DH had DS on his back a bit yesterday, I'm going to have a go tomorrow. Had him on my front a bit and it was comfy :)

Got lots to do this week, it's DS's first birthday party on Saturday and want to weed the front garden and stuff but this bloody rain won't stop! Mum-in-law is here so at least that's an extra pair of hands.

Hoping for an early night tonight, feel knackered! Hope you've all had a lovely day, and wishing you good nights.

Oooh if you're a knitter - I paid a silly amount of money for someone to knit woolie lanolised nappy covers for DD - got some longies, soakers and shorties... :)

Poor DD crying and poorly tonight - had her 12 month jabs earlier and it's really affected her, poor kitten :(

LWL Hope DD feels better!

Doing ok today, though I think DS might be teething a bit again. I've got him an Amber anklet after seeing the mess he was during the last lot, no idea if it will help but willing to try anything.

How's you Joyful?

joyful if you like knitting, my MIL knits upside down dolls, she gets loads of orders and a local shop even asked for a supply! Also, maybe try embroidery? A friend of mine does this for new babies- name, dob, and weight along with a picture- she frames them and sells them on. Good thing is they are made to order so u are guaranteed payment. Just a thought, but bespoke items really do make money. If I were on your position, I would be panicking! You are so brave!
A special hello to LWL good to see u back!!

Sleep has hit rock bottom here, don't think it's ever been so bad. Ds also seems to be self weaning from bf SadSad, so can't even use that!! I'm gutted tbh! Really wanted to feed until at least 2, but he is only taking a few short sucks and off again, I won't force the issue of course, but I'm sure my milk will dry up soon Sad

tickleme63 · 12/07/2012 08:53

Mampig :( Sorry things are rough lady. Sending hugs.

LittleWaveyLines · 12/07/2012 15:55

Dare I say it... but we've had a night where I swear she only woke a couple of times again! .... and once when she cried out she was still actually asleep! Shock

DP is now the only thing that gets DD to sleep for the first bit of the night - he takes her for a walk in the mai tai, or rocks her in the ring sling - I can't feed her to sleep any more as it actually tends to wake her up instead!

CarpeBibendum · 12/07/2012 19:44

So about 3 pages ago, I joined, ranted and then left!

Have had a quick look through the updates and given that there's no one with a 2 year old on here, I reckon that I only have 8 more months max of no sleep..

So after being very worried about holiday with in laws.. It was great!

It was a lot due to the fact that the farmhouse had thick walls and we had a double and a single bed pushed together (DH can't sleep next to wriggly girl).

DD bless her managed to sleep in her travel cot till about 11 every night which meant that we had the evenings together and then came in with me for the rest of the night but as DH had his single bed next to ours, he still got sleep and actually said it was sweet to wake up next to her! She even did the first 40 mins of most naps in her cot!

Ok she was up for the day at 4.30 every morning and on the way back came down with chicken pox literally on the ferry but hey..

So she's better from chicken pox but has suddenly decided to drop a nap and wake at 4.15 every morning for playtime (and I thought that 5am was bad..) just in time for me to start back at work in a week's time.

She is also going through a huge development leap. Her understanding is visibly improving every day, she is saying a new word nearly every day and she can now point to her nose, eyes, ears, head, mouth and hair (proud mummy emoticon). But she still sleeps like a newborn..oh well..

Puddle gosh that's so hard.. Cupcake / cake making for birthday parties? The profit margins are huge even though there are lots around.. You don't need ofsted to be nanny ie. you do childcare at the employer's house rather than your own. Not many good ideas - sorry.

CarpeBibendum · 12/07/2012 19:49

Oh and handmade cot / child bed quilts are on sale at our local (v trendy) for over £100. I am sure that the margins are pretty high on those too. I am too lazy to make one but have been tempted..

Gah jinxed it - worst night last night for a loooooooong time. I swear she woke every 30mins crying - no idea what the problem was - I tried more layers. fewer layers, nappy change, cuddling/no cuddling.... :(
