What SINGLE thing would make Mumsnet better for you?

bibbitybobbityhat · 19/03/2010 16:31

Thread rules:

  1. please be respectful to mnhq, this is not a bitch fest about MN
  1. only one THING per poster (or, if you must, you can have more than one but they must be on separate posts).

My thread. My rules. No arguments.

Right, I will start:

I do wish people would spend more time reading than posting. So often you have a thread (quite often an AIBU) where someone says "I haven't read the thread but YABU" or more often lately the highly unnecessary YABVVVVVVVVU when the thread has moved on hugely since the op, the arguments have all been had, everyone has bitched and moaned, made up, had a cup of tea, done a bit of ironing. If there is a slightly sparky looking OP and hundreds of posts on a thread, why not take that as a clue that the thread may well have moved on, questions asked and answers given, and read before you post?

OP posts:
Tortington · 19/03/2010 20:59

but you make it better with witty quips

Hullygully · 19/03/2010 21:03

happiness is but the occasional episode in this general drama of pain (this may well be slightly paraphrased)

so let's dance and offer love and pink fizzy wine

just gimmee vodka

TrillianAstra · 19/03/2010 21:21

I agree with Slub - anything in AIBU must make a full question starting with 'Am I Being Unreasonable...'

DownyEmerald · 19/03/2010 21:26

Agree with hassled about stuff being in AIBU that really lives in parenting, development or something.

See, hully, this is why we should have awards.

Any excuse to crack out a sequin.

tethersend · 19/03/2010 21:39

Dumbledoresgirl, nostalgia aint what it used to be, that's for sure.

cyteen · 19/03/2010 21:44

Ah, see now Kerry, I'm sorry but you appear to have flouted rule change no. 4 proposed by Lenin at 16:34, so I'm afraid I'm going to have to ask you nicely but firmly to leave the thread and have a good long hard

think about how you are behaving

No more non-starter AIBUs.

"AIBU to not like being stabbed repeatedly in the eyeball with a fork?"

Well... er, no, clearly YANBU.

Furball · 19/03/2010 22:07

to be able to search for 'exact phrase' and not end up with every post with those words in.

The example I use over and over (I've been harping on for years about this...) is 'christmas pudding' if you search for that you end up with a zillion posts with christmas in and a million more for pudding.

teamcullen · 19/03/2010 22:23

Id like to be able to bookmark where you have read up to on a thread.

It drives me potty trying to find out where I last posted or where I read up to. Especially on long or ongoing threads.

gaelicsheep · 19/03/2010 22:28

A bit of a peripheral thing, but some thought for those of us without fast broadband. Get rid of those blardy video adverts that kill my computer!! Please.

tortoiseonthehalfshell · 20/03/2010 05:48

You lot are funny.

If my one change was a change in posting habits, I agree with the OP - read the damn thread before responding. You'll avoid making a tit of yourself. You'll miss the 'reverse AIBU' trap. And really, why do you think what you have to say is so much more important than everyone else, so that you don't have to bother reading theirs? Do you interrupt people when they're speaking too?

...and breathe

tortoiseonthehalfshell · 20/03/2010 05:49

If it's a technical thing, I agree with being able to bookmark last post so that you jump to the next post. That'd be excellent.

Nelvana · 20/03/2010 06:10

Lady and bibbity -- re: refreshing the page with cmd-R:

use your thumb for the cmd key and forefinger for R! (for either hand) voila! one-handed refresh.

there's also a refresh link at the top of threads and usually (if you haven't removed it) one at the top of the web browser ?

MamaG · 20/03/2010 06:21

POLLS

i bring out this old chestnt every few months and HQ ignore me

but I'd like to be able to add ap oll

but DEFINITELY with thread for discussion rnning underneath the poll if that makes sense

Vote now:

Nymphadora · 20/03/2010 07:19

All aibu should have a poll or a vote at the side of new posts. Yes, no, you don't make sense explain more NOW or I'll lose interest

ShowOfHands · 20/03/2010 10:48

Nymph...

"Add message | Report | Contact poster By ShowOfHands Fri 19-Mar-10 20:29:58
Oooh I know.

3 buttons on each aibu thread. YABU, YANBU and 4.

And we can vote."

You're clearly brilliant. I agree with everything you say.

nickelbabe · 20/03/2010 10:54

i like that too!
you can vote YABU or YANBU, but still have room for discussion.

then we can all see at a glance if the op IBU or not!
