Mumsnet TV show starring Mumsnetters ready to view. Please tell us what you think...

You may remember at the end of 2009 we asked for volunteers to be filmed having the Mumsnet hair cut and take part in a Mumsnet TV makeover etc. Well the final cut of the first Mumsnet e-TV magazine show is now up and ready to view (and before we go any further there's definitely a starring role/Mumsnet book/our undying gratitude for anyone who can think up a snappier title for the show. Anything other than Mumsnet Magazine TV show would be an improvement).

Made for Mumsnetters and starring - who else - Mumsnetters, the current plan is that this will be a regular show bringing you all the MN staples - AIBU, beauty tips, MN makeovers, sleb interviews, some political stuff - the works.

This episode is a trial run to see what works (and what doesn't). We already have an idea of what doesn't work (mostly any time MNHQ get involved/appear ) but we think you'll agree that the Mumsnetters are great - absolutely star material.

You can find the show in the MNTV slot on the right hand side of the page on Chat, AIBU, Site Stuff, webchats, Telly addicts, competitions and active conversations. Please take a minute (or seven) to have a look and then tell us what you think of it. All suggestions and feedback welcome (but do be gentle with us...). Oh and don't forget a name for the show.

Thanks and enjoy,

MNHQ

if we have a cookery bit, it needs to show how to make a delicious and quick meal while on the phone, having a glass of wine and having a pointless conversation about black holes with an over-enthusiastic and earnest boy interspersed with ''no, dear no there are no onions in this. No you can't have cake, because I'm cooking dinner and it will be ready soon. no. No onions. Yes. i know you don't like onions sweetpea. That's why THERE ARE NO ONIONS IN IT!...''

mamazon · 18/01/2010 19:01

haha Molly. I have had a very similar conversation with DS this evening. only he was convinced i was cooking seaweed. It took me at least 10 minutes before i worked out he meant Swede! and no i wasnt cooking it

MollyRoger · 18/01/2010 19:02

snort at seaweed/swede

JeMenFous · 18/01/2010 19:05

Many of the camera shots seemed to be aiming up Marslady's skirt instead of her face, odd

Cyb · 18/01/2010 19:07

I thought everyone was VERY photogenic. I would literally poop my pants if I was viewed on telly

FredAboutAFred · 18/01/2010 19:09

oioi cyb

Chunkyrice · 18/01/2010 19:14

i think the production values brought down what could be a very successful project.

atm the show seems like a visual newsletter.

are there any ways you could make use of its interactive possibilities - could be a much more interesting experience - something that network tv is trying to encourage from the opposite direction.

what can mumsnet tv offer that any other show can't? you really need to highlight and embrace that - or it will get lost.

if it's just a bit of a laugh, all well and good, but you don't want to damage the reputation of your other ventures.

btw - i think all the mnetters and at towers are gorgeous - would def like to see more of them.

hotcrossbunny · 18/01/2010 19:26

I found it a bit cringey TBH. I think for me, I prefer to imagine what posters look like on MN. Seeing them in the flesh takes the magic away a bit IYSWIM? However, I did enjoy the Will Young interview, and agree everyone looks lovely and friendly

VinegarTits · 18/01/2010 19:27

The words 'norks' makes me cringe, i prefer 'tits', 'something to hide my tits please John' and who is John?

The MN haircut was a bit like - bish, bash bosh, not at all like i do it, she didnt brush her hair up properly, and it look at bit of a show if i'm honest

Disenchanted3 · 18/01/2010 19:46

SUPER CHEESY

I loved it

LowLevelWhingeing · 18/01/2010 19:56

John used to be on the original Judy and Richard didn't he? I liked him FWIW.

Doobydoo · 18/01/2010 20:01

loved the fashion chap at the start saying 'norks'
Have come to the conclusion we are all a bunch of madzers

NotAnOtter · 18/01/2010 20:10

i thought the 'norks' bit was a bit the MN in jokes wear a bit thin ....

i am not sure what the purpose of the pieces is - if it is for non Mumsnetters then things like that might be ok

SqueezyIsStartinAResolution · 18/01/2010 20:15

I found it a bit cringy too, sorry . The beauty tip was good and the MNers were fab, all of them. The norks thing was a bit , it was as if MN had to include a MN 'word', chose norks and scripted it in. It didn't feel natural.

What draws me to MN and certain threads is controversy, cheekiness, outspoken opinions, sad stories, happy stories. I didn't really get much of that in the programme.

A QT style format would be really good. Also agree with MNers picking out clothes for each other.

I thought it was too 'living tv'....but it was a good attempt and well thought out. If the true spirit of MN can be captured, I'd definitely watch it.

PollyTechnique · 18/01/2010 20:16

Justine, please could we see the director's cut, showing Mamazon and Reality doing their double act, please, please?

lollyheart · 18/01/2010 20:19

I thought it was great

We had a fab time making it and everyone was so lovely.

John is a great guy and he gave us lots of good tips.

Not to sure about the mn hair cut tbh.

It is also nice to put names to faces too.

Aranea · 18/01/2010 20:21

I'm another who would like to know what it is for. At the moment it is just doing things that are done rather better on daytime TV. And I am not sure why you would be aspiring to those not-so-dizzy heights anyway.

I got bored watching it I'm afraid, and just felt I'd much rather be reading threads. I enjoy mumsnet much more than fluffy makeovers etc, and that is much more the case when the makeovers are done on a shoestring budget.

The very brave mumsnetters who appeared didn't come across nearly as well as they do on 'Talk'. (All looked lovely, that's not the point though) The wonderful thing about mumsnet is the range of well-expressed opinion, together with a wealth of experience being shared. Surely if you're going to make TV with the mumsnet name it needs to reflect this a bit more?

Sorry, another who's not all that good at being gentle.

The thing I am most freaked out by is when you watch it other clips appear at the bottom of the screen, and one of them is called anal inspection I am NOT clicking on that.

mamazon · 18/01/2010 20:26

I would love to do a question time/loose women style MNTV.

Id be Carol MCwhatsermush. you know the miserable old bag who moans about everything and then got a bloke and suddenly everythings fab

BecauseImWorthIt · 18/01/2010 20:28

Was this just an abridged version then? Because the first section needed a lot more scene setting - why had Amandoh chosen those outfits? And agree, more info about where the clothes came from/how much they cost, etc

But also agree with 100 - hard to comment unless you know what MNTV is going to be for and who it will be aimed at.

(And why did Mars' skirt keep riding higher and higher?!)

thedollyridesout · 18/01/2010 20:33

I hated the revolving cube thing and I think there was too much of the logo and not a pc in sight.

Didn't like the anonimity bit in AIBU - too 'crimewatchy'.

The humour/wit/sarcasm of MNers didn't really come over although there was plenty of warmth, especially in the Will Young segment.

Actually, having a celeb on there is probably the way forward. Perhaps a few different segments centered around one celeb per episode. You could do televised follow ups to the live webchats - it could be a hoot. The supermarket bit could have been a mum doling out 'blanked out' biscuits to a toddler.

BecauseImWorthIt · 18/01/2010 20:36

... and I also think it's time you had some professional work done on the MN logo - it looked very amateurish, especially viewed on full screen.

Sorry

thedollyridesout · 18/01/2010 20:37

Oh, I nearly forgot the name - 'The Cult of MN' .
