Mumsnet TV show starring Mumsnetters ready to view. Please tell us what you think...

You may remember at the end of 2009 we asked for volunteers to be filmed having the Mumsnet hair cut and take part in a Mumsnet TV makeover etc. Well the final cut of the first Mumsnet e-TV magazine show is now up and ready to view (and before we go any further there's definitely a starring role/Mumsnet book/our undying gratitude for anyone who can think up a snappier title for the show. Anything other than Mumsnet Magazine TV show would be an improvement).

Made for Mumsnetters and starring - who else - Mumsnetters, the current plan is that this will be a regular show bringing you all the MN staples - AIBU, beauty tips, MN makeovers, sleb interviews, some political stuff - the works.

This episode is a trial run to see what works (and what doesn't). We already have an idea of what doesn't work (mostly any time MNHQ get involved/appear ) but we think you'll agree that the Mumsnetters are great - absolutely star material.

You can find the show in the MNTV slot on the right hand side of the page on Chat, AIBU, Site Stuff, webchats, Telly addicts, competitions and active conversations. Please take a minute (or seven) to have a look and then tell us what you think of it. All suggestions and feedback welcome (but do be gentle with us...). Oh and don't forget a name for the show.

Thanks and enjoy,

MNHQ

It looked fun and would def improve with experience. If it's just for us, then great. If it's for the outside world, then we need to be really careful that this doesn't cement stereotypes of silly women with boring lives.

Agree with the change in format. A Loose Women style would show MN strengths - interesting, intelligent and warm women. We need more talk and less unfancy camerawork. The MNetters were likeable and natural on film, and would benfit from more banter and less scripting

So, a panel show with 2-4 presenters, an interview slot, a s&b slot and perhaps a 'MN in Paris/Budapest/Florida' video - needn't cost much if fly-on-the-wall and filmed with a camcorder. . AIBU could be covered between the presenters by dipping into the pick of the week. Everything based on a thread.

Would watch another, definitely.

AddictedtoCrunchies · 18/01/2010 20:55

Couldn't watch it. Made my teeth itch.

Cyclops · 18/01/2010 21:01

It came across as a bit ad-hoc tbh, flitting from one scene to another quite quickly, as though there was no overall plan...perhaps an overall presenter/narrator is needed to stitch all the scenes together into a coherent whole?

I think MNTV needs a purpose/strategy first and foremost.

I found it fun, fluffy and fairly lightweight I was half-expecting Will Young to be asked to name his favourite !

TheBossofMe · 18/01/2010 21:04

Blimey - you lot are harsh critics!

FWIW, I agree with most of the criticism - I think this suffers from a bit of a lack of purpose. What's the pitch on MNTV vs MN the site? If there's no difference, then you probably have an issue because what's brilliant for one medium doesn't always work in another.

DP just saw it and thinks it looks like dodgy 70's porn. he said he was just waiting for the plumber to knock on the door to join in with the make over.

he was very sympathetic to my looking like a bush had just beaten me up and i was left swollen.

he agrees that it would be a better idea to have a Loose Women type set up, and apparantly i look like one of the women off there already so i should fit right in

morningpaper · 18/01/2010 21:16

Couldn't see what was going on clothes-wise due to the lighting although I liked the v-necked tops and what does he mean "too low cut"? I've not heard of that before.

Reality needs a bigger sofa, it looked rather intimate squashed up there with that big boy

He seemed nice and cheery

Thought you were going to blind yourselves with the eyelash trick!

morningpaper · 18/01/2010 21:17

Gerry looked a small bit terrified

uncross your arms woman

I don't really watch telly so haev no idea what loose woman / wright means

I do watch House and obviously it would be better with a bastard doctor smacking someone leaning over a desk

(OK that isn't actually what happens in House)

Ewe · 18/01/2010 21:22

Agree 100% with the Loose Women set up idea, I think a discussion element is key - that way it can be a mix of serious stuff and light hearted banter. Discussing the previous weeks Top 5 threads for example and maybe sticking a makeover bit in there half way through or something.

BecauseImWorthIt · 18/01/2010 21:22

Stop fantasising about House, mp!

Wereworm · 18/01/2010 21:25

lolol MP at replacing the whole thing with an S/M modification of House. Its just a small tweak but it could make all the difference.

mamazon · 18/01/2010 21:25

id be happy to do a bit of filming with HL though

morningpaper · 18/01/2010 21:26

I am already on the desk

morningpaper · 18/01/2010 21:27

I had to move Gerry out of the way first

She looked even more nervous than normal

tootiredtothink · 18/01/2010 21:36

Turn your computers to the TV when you're MNing ladies - John used to be a regular stylist on This Morning (in the good old Fern days).

Could steal the style format they had on there and have John style one Mner while another MNer styles another - and we have to vote who's done the best job.

AIBU in loose women format is a must surely?

Loving the beauty tips - trying to delve down my make up bag to find my long lost eyelash curlers (people still make an effort once they've had a baby ).

And I'd love to see the MN haircut done with someone with straight hair (as that is what I have) to see how to do it.

Agree with others on how lovely you all are .

PortBlacksand · 18/01/2010 21:37

I will not be watching again as i like my MNers anonymous. Bit downmarket really compared to this internet forum which is fab...

WilfSell · 18/01/2010 21:39

I'm a bit in love with GerryMumsnet. And her hair.

This, and the politics show, it's a bit like having read the book before the film but still loving the film.

But that's the main attraction for me: just nosying all the names and RL people.

PortBlacksand · 18/01/2010 21:44

Yes but i'm Fugly and Shy - therefore it will only be the attractive or outgoing MNers that are included...

bibbitybobbityhat · 18/01/2010 21:45

Just found my original post on this subject from October:

"Oh sorry to be catsbum, but what is this for? Why do Mumsnetters need makeovers? Why does Mumsnet's foray into tv have to be so froth and fluff and daytime tv-ish? Can't we leave all this to the teenagers?"

... still feel the same .

Am too old for Mumsnet .

mamazon · 18/01/2010 21:47

ONly if you chose it to be that way Port.

morningpaper · 18/01/2010 21:50

Gerry Mumsnet is all perfect

Like Barbie

morningpaper · 18/01/2010 21:51

I mean all perfect and doll-like like Barbie

Not all naked and missing one leg and with matted hair

(just to clarify)

humptynumpty · 18/01/2010 21:51

I quite liked it, but agree does kind of with the idea of mn being anonynmous!
I would watch it.

WilfSell · 18/01/2010 21:57

Here's what I think. I wouldn't necessarily watch it unless a. I was watching MNers whose name I knew or b. I was at home ill and it was daytime TV stuff. But we have the bigger and better thing already: we have read the book, and nothing could live up to it, no?

But for all the people out there who don't MN, perhaps it would be aimed at them?

I'm assuming what it is 'for' is to be a pilot to pitch for a proper TV programme, therein to dominate the world expand the business.

And good luck to 'em.

NorkyButNice · 18/01/2010 21:58

I can confirm that the word norks is as embarrassing to say in real life as it sounds. Especially when Mars insists on embarrassing you in front of Will Young talking about breasts

mumblecrumble · 18/01/2010 22:08

Agree. Norks is a written word rather than saying it...

Love Loose women idea.

Personally I thought the last 3 items espeically the lovely lady cutting her hair was HILLARIOUS! Really reminded me of mumsnet - ladies having a laugh and saving money

Hate fashion anyway so no real comments....

Thought it was fun. Does make us look like loons though!
