Mumsnet TV show starring Mumsnetters ready to view. Please tell us what you think...

You may remember at the end of 2009 we asked for volunteers to be filmed having the Mumsnet hair cut and take part in a Mumsnet TV makeover etc. Well the final cut of the first Mumsnet e-TV magazine show is now up and ready to view (and before we go any further there's definitely a starring role/Mumsnet book/our undying gratitude for anyone who can think up a snappier title for the show. Anything other than Mumsnet Magazine TV show would be an improvement).

Made for Mumsnetters and starring - who else - Mumsnetters, the current plan is that this will be a regular show bringing you all the MN staples - AIBU, beauty tips, MN makeovers, sleb interviews, some political stuff - the works.

This episode is a trial run to see what works (and what doesn't). We already have an idea of what doesn't work (mostly any time MNHQ get involved/appear ) but we think you'll agree that the Mumsnetters are great - absolutely star material.

You can find the show in the MNTV slot on the right hand side of the page on Chat, AIBU, Site Stuff, webchats, Telly addicts, competitions and active conversations. Please take a minute (or seven) to have a look and then tell us what you think of it. All suggestions and feedback welcome (but do be gentle with us...). Oh and don't forget a name for the show.

Thanks and enjoy,

MNHQ

Thank you Eleanor!!!!!

Very nice MNHQ. Saying nowt else because I've been pulling my hair out for days being unable to view and now I have(with help!)I'm overcome with emotion...wahhhhhhhh!!!

I liked the Will Young interview, the rest of the time I found there wasn't a natural focus (wrong camera angles?)

I think you should take MNers to the shops for a good ol' giggle in the changing rooms, and edit it to show best/worst/funniest.

I enjoyed putting names to faces too.

Think you should have a panel of testers with me as chief tester to try out new beauty products and report back for MNTV. Also a tried and tested section.

AIBU - this should be a live debate.

A section called "What's the Big Deal about...?" and have something that's oft discussed ie Uggs, Boden, Eastenders, Justin Fletcher - anything really!

Great to see other MNers tho

I thought the focus thing was my eyes!!!

I also seemed to recognise AIBU's voice

why did nobody say carriemumsnet was a TV producer?. Talk about teaching granny to suck eggs.

princessmel · 20/01/2010 20:20

I like maisie and 100's ideas

There is something genuinely addictive about an online forum, and that will never be able to be replicated in a static medium like a TV programme or a book. Did you ever notice that you only became truly addicted to MN when you started posting? The agonising wait to see if anyone replies, the joy of getting a compliment, the secret thrill of annoying somebody with a nasty AIBU repost, etc...

There must be a scientific explanation for this occurence. But in the meantime, I just don't think that books or TV, no matter how good, could ever really capture the utter fabulosity of the living, breathing, ever-changing, ever contributable-to Mumsnet.

Love 100's MNTube idea

Thank you for those that said such lovely things. It was a rather low, comfy couch and I was sliding down, or my skirt was sliding up because I was laughing so much. Will is one funny guy! Norky... he wanted to know what your name meant... You saw how I tried to hold back PMSL!!!!!!!!

As to the rest of it... well I'm easily pleased and I laughed alot. Mamazon... that did not show off the total gorgeousness that is you (but you didn't look terrible so stop that at once!) The AIBU could've been shorter, but I was rocking with laughter when she started! I knew it would be about grapes. I loved being with McDreamy and Norky. Lovely, lovely ladies that I would happily meet with again (remember perving over Jason Orange through the coffee shop window? )

JeremyVile... you'll always be my doppelganger. I miss those days.

Right bed! I have a book to finish before tomorrow evening and I'm only 1/3 through it and must get kids to bed on time.

My essay about me is now over. As you were.

MarsLady · 20/01/2010 23:58

Oh and MNHQ... you promised us outtakes of the Will interview... Please!!!!!!!!!!! There were some rather outrageous remarks if I remember... and I'm sure it was all that McDreamy's fault! PMSL!!!!!!

blinks · 21/01/2010 00:00

awful.

truly awful.

the music was porn film-y.

what's the point in replicating (badly) programmes that already exist? GMTV. Trinny and Susannah. This Morning. if you're going to make a move into tv at least take some effing risks. do something different.

i also HATE identifying posters. all very 'look at me'.

and why in gods earth would anyone ANYONE actually request another Loose Women style programme???? the forced banter.... the 'us women' stereotypes....

stop it.

now.

blinks · 21/01/2010 00:02

and the interiew... i'm sure you're all lovely funny women but jesus christ, if it was any more low energy, it would have been comatosed.

and will young is dreeeeeeeary on a good day.

JustAnotherManicMummy · 21/01/2010 00:07

Loving 100's idea!

I am picturing loads of MNetters in really crap disguises - dark glasses, false moustaches, dodgy wigs (because the anonimity is quite important for lots of people) making Lauriefairycake's scented candles, whipping up one of Aitch's receipes for BLW or maybe enjoying a spot of "extreme-breastfeeding" somewhere precarious?

I'd love to see a Paxman-style interview with some politicians/slebs... maybe by some of our campagining MNetters like PolicyWonk or Riven to mention just a couple of the very clever people who post on MN?

Top tips are always good for a laugh. Especially the top "not to" tips

Any panel debate for AIBU must be very well lubricated with vino though. I feel very strongly about that

weebump · 21/01/2010 02:01

The difficult thing about this whole concept is that you're adapting one medium to fit another. We can all fire opinions around quite eloquently in writing and be up all night going through the ins and outs of one topic. But in the video format topics have to be condensed to mere minutes worth. A subject can only be skimmed really.

I must say I was vaguely excited to see that the Mumsnet haircut was going to feature - that IS something you need to see in action, in vision to get right. But unfortunately she did it totally wrong, so there was no point in it at all.

The other elements didn't really work for me either. We don't need makeovers, stylist tips etc, when we've loads of that on afternoon telly.

I think if there's a rule of "8 minutes maximum", then stick to one topic. I really liked the previous videos you had posted on child care tips, and I think that's what Mumsnet is really about. If the whole video had been a single topic: various women trying out the haircut, or road testing prams, or discussing a recent AIBU, it might be useful, but in this format it's too ...too ... frivolous.
