The MN Mail Column - what we think, and what we plan to do next... part 3

carriemumsnet · 25/08/2009 23:27

Part 1 and Part 2 have reached capacity but at least one poster - you know who you are bibbitybobbityhat - was wanting to continue chatting so we thought we'd start another thread so you can continue to tell us your thoughts on the matter.

It may be tomorrow though before we respond -some of us at MN towers a tad worn out after a hectic, but very enjoyable eve, watching Angelina Ballerina ballet in Holland Park with a few of the MNHQ dds - highly recommended (the ballet, that is, not the dds.... though actually they weren't too bad either).

Night all

ZephirineDrouhin · 27/08/2009 22:33

So. The column. Are we to take it that it was withdrawn because it was just too poor to publish?

effedorf · 27/08/2009 22:44

Might as well take it as that ZD because no other explanation appears to be forthcoming.

Tortington · 27/08/2009 23:32

so no regular article anymore?

paisleyleaf · 28/08/2009 00:57

I assume it must have been published, but I've not seen the paper.
I guessed it was removed because they don't want to have to sift through all the trolling on the comments.

WebDude · 28/08/2009 00:58

Hopefully someone from MNHQ can answer soon about whether they had any contact or knowledge of the withdrawal of the oiece this week.

I saw someone post a comment about how a thread might ideal for the DM, went off to NewsNow (.co.uk) and saw the entry

On mumsnet this week: Are family holidays worth the hassle? The Daily Mail - Femail 00:48 27-Aug-09

and then found it had been removed, so the DM displays an error, though searching for mumsnet still displays the link (so Google and Newsnow still assume it is valid).

Wonder how long it was before someone decided to pull it, or whether it came down to seeing a negative response about how it was an old stale topic... or something else (MNhq, please clarify!)

morningpaper · 28/08/2009 08:24

It was published - I saw the paper

IN A COFFEE SHOP

GeraldineMumsnet · 28/08/2009 10:08

Morning, sorry, last time I looked at this thread it hadn't got to the DM column being pulled bit.

Haven't got a clue why it has been pulled, it was there last time I looked yesterday but, obviously, now isn't.

I'll go and try to find out if anyone else knows why, and will post if I can find out.

Rafi · 28/08/2009 10:14

I've started a thread on the Femail boards to ask if anyone knows where it's gone....

Not really expecting an answer though.

whomovedmychocolate · 28/08/2009 10:18

Rusty would you mind posting in plain text the link so I can nick it from the Google archive Doesn't matter if it's gone, nothing is really gone in cyberspace

WebDude · 28/08/2009 10:21

Google has not cached a copy, as far as I can tell... the link was

www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-1209274/
On-mumsnet-week-Are-family-holidays-worth -hassle.html

(with no break of course)

It must have been wiped off DM website too quickly.

MaleyDale · 28/08/2009 10:22

lol

WebDude · 28/08/2009 10:23

LOL at morningpaper

Well, the DM can wipe their online copy, but other sites sometimes grab items...

"On mumsnet this week: Are family holidays worth the hassle?

I SAY: Oh yes, yes, yes. The great taboo, the one thing nobody tells you about having children, is that you won't have another proper holiday again for at least, oooh, 16 years, which is when your teenage children decide they hate you too much to be seen with you, and go to music festivals with their friends instead. If, like me, your dream holiday involved a stack of books, a pool, a sunlounger and a cocktail, the shock is all the more devastating.

whomovedmychocolate · 28/08/2009 10:24

Having just read half the article (shh they haven't managed to find every copy yet) it's frighteningly similar to the Mumsnet toddler book chapter on holidays.

I may have to call MiL and ask her to save it for me.

Rafi · 28/08/2009 10:28

I'm mainly interested in whatever comments come after it!

Cluckadoodledoo · 28/08/2009 10:35

I think it was pulled before any comments were posted!

I saw it online, then went back to comment after drinking coffee and it had gone.

I reckon they will have been bombarded again with mn comments and pulled to avoid the hassle!

ZephirineDrouhin · 28/08/2009 10:42

Or maybe just a technical blip. But its disappearance has certainly made it about 100,000,000,000 times more interesting than it was originally.

whomovedmychocolate · 28/08/2009 11:17

Wusses

daftpunk · 28/08/2009 12:24

i'm sure the DM have got better things to do than read made up messages from bitter MN saddos.
