The MN Mail Column - what we think, and what we plan to do next... part 3

carriemumsnet · 25/08/2009 23:27

Part 1 and Part 2 have reached capacity but at least one poster - you know who you are bibbitybobbityhat - was wanting to continue chatting so we thought we'd start another thread so you can continue to tell us your thoughts on the matter.

It may be tomorrow though before we respond -some of us at MN towers a tad worn out after a hectic, but very enjoyable eve, watching Angelina Ballerina ballet in Holland Park with a few of the MNHQ dds - highly recommended (the ballet, that is, not the dds.... though actually they weren't too bad either).

Night all

I agree DP, despite being a bitter MN saddo myself.

Hi all

Sorry nothing new to report. We spoke with a Femail person just now and they don't know why article was pulled online, but they thought it was probably just a space issue, it's quite common apparently for stuff to be up for a day or so and then down. Don't think we can make a fuss about the article not being online. Will let you know if we find out any more.

Sorry not to have more exciting news!

What? Is the internet running out of space?

SoupDragon · 28/08/2009 14:23

This wasn't even up for a day though was it? It had gone by 9:54am

SoupDragon · 28/08/2009 14:24

And the previous columns are still online...

ZephirineDrouhin · 28/08/2009 14:28

lol at internet running out of space. I blame the immigrants

ZephirineDrouhin · 28/08/2009 14:59

Thanks, Carrie, by the way. Don't think anyone is particularly keen to see it reinstated - just curious as to why it disappeared, and whether it might mean an end to the column altogether. Thought it might be something to do with the content being so old when it is supposed to be "this week on mumsnet" or whatever. But obviously not if you knew nothing about it.

TheHeathenOfSuburbia · 28/08/2009 16:31

at the Boardreader site, how cool is that?

Congratulations to Expat are in order I think...

Blondeshavemorefun · 28/08/2009 17:01

damn i missed the article - shame it got pulled

but very weird that the thread that it was taken from got bumped after 4 months

SoupDragon · 28/08/2009 17:16

I'm not sure congratulations are what should be extended to Expat!! It's like a hall of shame: "Who has done chuff all except MN this week"

SoupDragon · 28/08/2009 17:17

MrsEricBanaMT · 28/08/2009 17:59

No space in cyber space?

beanieb · 28/08/2009 19:01

lol at the space thing. yeah right. That's why it was pulled, of course. snigger!

LadyHooHa · 28/08/2009 21:59

I've been away for a week, and this is still top of the MN chat list??!! Give me strength!

beanieb · 28/08/2009 23:31

this is pinned or stickied or whatever you call it, isn't it?

WebDude · 29/08/2009 09:49

Thanks for the update, Carrie.

It sounds a pretty feeble excuse from them, perhaps someone hoping that a bit of waffle about computers will be acceptable. Given that www.Archive.org samples web pages over the months and can display pages from years ago, then either the DM is running its website on a clapped out IBM 386, or someone is imagining they can 'run out of space' and have to remove an article so fast, it is online for less than half a day.

If anything is going to 'run out of space' then logic suggests wiping out the oldest articles, as in that old computing phrase "garbage in, garbage out" (no particular reference to the DM, by that, of course )

I must say that I've really enjoyed the days that the internet has been going

I guess that, like oil, it's finally run out

If only we'd been sensible and used the internet cautiously, then our children would have been able to enjoy their days communicating with each other too

Michael Moore must be told

pofacedandproud · 29/08/2009 11:00

If it saves my children from Twitter then I'm for it.

SwedesandTurnips · 29/08/2009 11:03

Moringpaper

AIBU to wonder whether there might be internet space for generations to come, were it not for so many non-indigenous women giving birth in Britain?

But I'm not blaming foreigners and their food entirely.

SwedesandTurnips · 29/08/2009 11:09

Pofaced - I'm livid that the internet is full. I've just splashed out £254 on a Twit Fit Spellchecker Pedant so my children can get some exercise and improve their grammar whilst using Twitter - it requires you to raise your eyebrow (alternating between left and right) when you read a Tweet with a spelling or grammatical error.

pofacedandproud · 29/08/2009 11:16

A good thing too Swedes - I have reason to believe Twitter is an EU conspiracy to fritter away the lives of British teens.

morningpaper · 29/08/2009 11:29

TBH the ineternet was invented by pheedo peedoos speedos paeaeadohhs perverts who want your dogs/children/guns so it's probably for the best that it's now past it's peak bandwidth production

pofaced... not just Twitter, though, with FaceBook and Bebo, and probably 100 or more I've never heard of (and certainly not gone looking for).

Found one of my (4) nephews on Bebo the other month, and wondered what his father said (if he had seen that photo!) (Niece and nephews are all over 20 now, but he may have still been at Uni when the photo was taken, and just pulling a silly face, when out, so not that shocking really)

LOL @ S+T - love the "Twit Fit Spellchecker Pedant" idea.
