The MN Mail Column - what we think, and what we plan to do next... part 3

carriemumsnet · 25/08/2009 23:27

Part 1 and Part 2 have reached capacity but at least one poster - you know who you are bibbitybobbityhat - was wanting to continue chatting so we thought we'd start another thread so you can continue to tell us your thoughts on the matter.

It may be tomorrow though before we respond -some of us at MN towers a tad worn out after a hectic, but very enjoyable eve, watching Angelina Ballerina ballet in Holland Park with a few of the MNHQ dds - highly recommended (the ballet, that is, not the dds.... though actually they weren't too bad either).

Night all

why do you think they've deleted this week#s column? Was there something controversial in it?

Jimmychasesducks · 27/08/2009 10:26

must have been really crap

fishflange · 27/08/2009 10:28

does that mean we won?
Although obviously it wasn't a competition and all those naughty comments last week were very childish. Cough.

Cluckadoodledoo · 27/08/2009 10:30

Hopefully good riddance but somehow I doubt it!

ClaireDeLoon · 27/08/2009 10:34

It's very odd because the thread that was bumped is very similar to the one in Discussions of the Day surely? Why did she not use the current thread?

beanieb · 27/08/2009 10:34

didn't last week's column temporarily disappear? perhaps it's a blip.

ZephirineDrouhin · 27/08/2009 10:35

Where is the one in discussions of the day?

beanieb · 27/08/2009 10:36

hi ClaireDeLoon

I wonder if it's because she actually wrote a few of the columns weeks ago and gave them all to the DM as an idea and they are just running them now? Maybe...

ClaireDeLoon · 27/08/2009 10:44

hey beanie

Zephirine - well my DoD just says error now but I think it was this one - its kind of the same thing I thought, about holidays being tiring and not much of a break for the mum when you have small children.

StretchFucksTheMailDaily · 27/08/2009 10:50

I definitely don't like this bumping of old posts to make it seem like we were discussing it this week. It seems very underhand and devious, surely that means they are trawling through the archives to get the quotes and stories they want which MNHQ said they weren't going to do.

So why have they taken down the article then? What was it about?

PitysSake · 27/08/2009 11:01

are oyu lot STILl on this

please can we NOT attack LH
i love her.

beanieb · 27/08/2009 11:01

they definitely lifted the quote "There is an element of parental torture in every family holiday, I think" from the April thread though, that's how I found it, by searching 'parental torture'.

I also searched something about "red Leicester cheese" but couldn't find anything. xx

beanieb · 27/08/2009 11:02

Pityssake - I don't think anyone is attacking her tbh.

Is it her you liked or her online persona?

ZephirineDrouhin · 27/08/2009 11:09

I'm not attacking LH. I'm sure she's perfectly lovely and a very fine journalist under normal circumstances. But even she must know the column is rubbish (and not so much "this week on mumsnet" but "four months ago on mumsnet")

ZephirineDrouhin · 27/08/2009 11:23

beanieb - "I wonder if it's because she actually wrote a few of the columns weeks ago and gave them all to the DM as an idea and they are just running them now?"

This seems like quite a likely explanation to me too. The column was probably put together before the agreement was put in place not to use old threads. So rather than scrap the column, the thread was bumped. Does that sound right?

beanieb · 27/08/2009 11:34

that could be right but it suggests that the person who bumped the thread is LH or someone who works for the DM and that just seems a bit underhand.

SwedesandTurnips · 27/08/2009 11:39

I'd prefer to think it's been pulled because Justine and Carrie have staged a protest on the roof of the Associated Newspapers offices. Their banners read: Hoot your horn if you want to.

ZephirineDrouhin · 27/08/2009 11:40

Was thinking more likely just a friend doing her a favour. But this is too much idle speculation really.

SwedesandTurnips · 27/08/2009 11:41

sorry MNHQ protest here

MNHQ would like to apologise for not wearing Boden or Joules but instead choosing Bon Marche.

morningpaper · 27/08/2009 11:44

I heard they did this to the Daily Mail offices

ZephirineDrouhin · 27/08/2009 11:45

lolol

LevitatingCopy · 27/08/2009 11:58

LH's personal loveliness isn't really the issue here though is it?

I'd hazard a guess that even Mother Theresa wouldn't have been given a hearty round of applause by a lot of MNers for producing the weekly column in question.

MrsEricBanaMT · 27/08/2009 12:34

I don't mind. AND I actually apreciate the role the Mail plays in us maintaining a healthy democracy. Go LH, or whatever you go by these days

Please would you publically humilate Rod Liddle though by making reference to this thread www.mumsnet.com/Talk/in_the_news/804949-Rod-Liddle-the-original-cripple-dick-and-oh-the-irony?addwat ch=1

MrsEricBanaMT · 27/08/2009 12:35

Is that your house MP?

'Come get it here!'
