Mumsnet Books - can we get your opinion on colours please?

Hello all,
As you probably know we've got a series of Mumsnet books coming out from next spring based on your collective wisdom. It's fair to say that there is a certain amount of disagreement amongst those involved as to which cover colours look best.

So we thought we'd ask you which you'd prefer, given that Mumsnetters are squarely in the target audience and all that. (We've promised not to tell you what we at HQ like by the way but suffice to say we're very much keener on one of sets than the other so you better get it right )

Basically there are 2 options for each of the four book covers - a more subtle and muted version, and a more vibrant and bolder version. You can see them here.

We'd be very grateful if you would let us know on this thread which of the options - subtle or bold - you'd prefer on your coffee table/ would be more likely to fork out for. If there's no clear consensus then we'll have a poll. Oh the excitement.

Many thanks,
MNHQ

I like the muted too (except the red, but then I don't like dark reds in general so ignore me).

VersdeSociete · 19/06/2008 16:14

Hmmm, both the options for "Babies" are a bit off - is possible to have more choices?

Brights for me

DonDons · 19/06/2008 16:26

subtle

TotalChaos · 19/06/2008 16:33

vibrant - people more likely to spot on bookshelf in shop!

kittywise · 19/06/2008 16:37

Subtle, although it's a close run thing.

memoo · 19/06/2008 16:49

subtle, they look more classy

FrannyandZooey · 19/06/2008 16:53

bright

however i think the brights look lovely NEXT TO the subtles
could you incorporate both colours on the jacket?

bundle · 19/06/2008 16:59

what about ONE colour - with differing shades? ie bright for pregnancy, slightly more muted for babies, paler still for food??? a family of mn books

Swedes · 19/06/2008 17:01

I think mumsnet guides should all be in that lovely taupey grey background with a charcol mums and a white net - just as it is on the top of this page. Then toddlers can be whatever colour in a coloured band alongside , pregnancy another colour etc. It will mean that people will recognise the spine by the colour and the name. Branding is very important and this seems to be a missed opportunity.

PortAndLemon · 19/06/2008 17:07

Subtle.

JustineMumsnet · 19/06/2008 17:08

Thank you all. We're going to go back to the publishers with your very clear vote for subtlety (about 8 to 1 by our count). We can also now reveal that subtle, or classy as some have so rightly suggested, was the unanimous winner round here too so well done all. We knew we could trust Mumsnetters' collective judgement You better all buy the books now .

my friend had a book published a couple of years ago and we spent ages musing over the colours - went for a lovely combo in the end - see what you think

bundle · 19/06/2008 17:13

(the faces are shiny silver, publishers said it was pricey!)

JulesJules · 19/06/2008 17:24

Subtle much better.
As a former bookseller, I can assure you that anything about pregnancy/babies/childcare etc which isn't in a bright pink jacket will stand out on the shelves!

treacletart · 19/06/2008 17:34

Subtle echoes the website and reinforces the brand - Id be for using the web logo too if you can

fullmoonfiend · 19/06/2008 17:35

humph, I'll only buy one if it has rainbow stripes on...

Actually I won't be buying one at all, unless you do one for stroppy pre-teens

RustyBear · 19/06/2008 17:42

Just come home & seen it on desktop pc - now I prefer the subtle ones

mummymusings · 19/06/2008 17:45

subtle

JustineMumsnet · 19/06/2008 17:50

The subtle looks even better in real life by the way - bit more vibrant .

evenhope · 19/06/2008 18:00

Vote for vibrant from both me and DH

fullmoonfiend · 19/06/2008 18:06

something that occured to me is that whatever the majority of mumsnetters agree on, you should ignore! They won't be buying the books as they can get all the advice they need on here for free...

So, you need to appeal to non-mumsnet types.

In which case, all covers should be pink. With ickle fluffy bears on.
