Mumsnet Books - can we get your opinion on colours please?

Hello all,
As you probably know we've got a series of Mumsnet books coming out from next spring based on your collective wisdom. It's fair to say that there is a certain amount of disagreement amongst those involved as to which cover colours look best.

So we thought we'd ask you which you'd prefer, given that Mumsnetters are squarely in the target audience and all that. (We've promised not to tell you what we at HQ like by the way but suffice to say we're very much keener on one of sets than the other so you better get it right )

Basically there are 2 options for each of the four book covers - a more subtle and muted version, and a more vibrant and bolder version. You can see them here.

We'd be very grateful if you would let us know on this thread which of the options - subtle or bold - you'd prefer on your coffee table/ would be more likely to fork out for. If there's no clear consensus then we'll have a poll. Oh the excitement.

Many thanks,
MNHQ

I prefer subtle, but have no real objection to the vibrant. Your eye would certainly be drawn to the vibrant ones on the shelf of Waterstones or whatever, and I can't imagine the slight gaudiness would stop you buying the book.

MrsBadger · 19/06/2008 12:49

(I was hoping you;d spot that and save me pointing it out, lapin...)

lackaDAISYcal · 19/06/2008 12:51

seeing them together then the vibrant...although I would try and tone down the green and purple a little bit...the green especially is scary!

...but subtle of you to suggest to us how good they look all together on a shelf and wouldn't it be a shame not to have the full set

deffo subtle wen you group them....and the green and purple don't look as bad when they are not near the vibrant.

Tinkerisdead · 19/06/2008 12:53

subtle

eenybeeny · 19/06/2008 12:53

well I like them all but I prefer subtle. I was going to suggest using ITNG for inspiration and subtle is sort of in line with that!

Habbibu · 19/06/2008 12:54

It's a subtle hook to get NetMums people to buy the book. And no, not vibrant - the colours of this site are very subtle, those of other parenting sites bright. QED. And besides, I have never set a trend before - you really mustn't burst my bubble. I might cry.

Habbibu · 19/06/2008 12:54

ITNG?

Habbibu · 19/06/2008 12:54

Oh - yes, just got it.

HuwEdwards · 19/06/2008 12:55

Brights!

TigerFeet · 19/06/2008 12:57

prefer the subtle but not sure on that exact range of colours - also the pictures while fab are not all the same size. I like my book spines to match up exactly. It is very very important

Agree with lapin about the text - the word net and the title of the book in the same colour looks a bit odd.

hmmm, somewhere in between?
the brights are too bright
the muteds are just a wee bit dull

imo

baffledmum · 19/06/2008 13:00

subtle for me!

Sidge · 19/06/2008 13:00

Subtle.

TigerFeet · 19/06/2008 13:01

[does competitive proofing with the wabbit]

I do this sort of thing for a living. I am told I have the personality type to be very good at it. [anal]

Amphibimum · 19/06/2008 13:01

oh and i quite like that it sort of reads 'the mums guide'... if you did want to make the 'mums' (and therefore the 'mumsnet' stand out a bit, then i would darken the 'mums' just a teeny little bit. but no more. imo.

helsy · 19/06/2008 13:01

Subtle. The vibrant makes me look away.

baffledmum · 19/06/2008 13:02

Subtle for me.

HonorMatopoeia · 19/06/2008 13:02

Subtle ones.

baffledmum · 19/06/2008 13:03

My brain is addled - I keep posting things twice. Apologies.

Subtle gets my vote.

FromGirders · 19/06/2008 13:07

I like the subtle ones. Wouldn't buy any kind of self-help / guide / whatever that's going to sit on my bookshelf and shout "LOOK AT ME!!"
