Mumsnet Books - can we get your opinion on colours please?

Hello all,
As you probably know we've got a series of Mumsnet books coming out from next spring based on your collective wisdom. It's fair to say that there is a certain amount of disagreement amongst those involved as to which cover colours look best.

So we thought we'd ask you which you'd prefer, given that Mumsnetters are squarely in the target audience and all that. (We've promised not to tell you what we at HQ like by the way but suffice to say we're very much keener on one of sets than the other so you better get it right )

Basically there are 2 options for each of the four book covers - a more subtle and muted version, and a more vibrant and bolder version. You can see them here.

We'd be very grateful if you would let us know on this thread which of the options - subtle or bold - you'd prefer on your coffee table/ would be more likely to fork out for. If there's no clear consensus then we'll have a poll. Oh the excitement.

Many thanks,
MNHQ

I think both are good

Flamesparrow · 19/06/2008 12:25

I like the brights for blue and purple, but muted for red and green.

Is that an option?

MadamAnt · 19/06/2008 12:26

Subtle

Malva · 19/06/2008 12:28

Definitely subtle, much more classy. Although I don't know how long they'd last like that in my house, they'll be covered in garish crayon in no time.

ontheverge · 19/06/2008 12:29

love the subtle ones - classy and different to all the other books out there I reckon.

ILovePudding · 19/06/2008 12:29

bright - you want them to stand out on our book cases and be easy to pick out from amoungst all the other junk books

mistlethrush · 19/06/2008 12:30

Subtle. Other ones a bit too 'in your face' and I have ds and all of his books and toys for that...

lackaDAISYcal · 19/06/2008 12:30

red and turquoise.....vibrant
purple and green....subtle

sfxmum · 19/06/2008 12:32

I like the brights bold ones no pink fluffy stuff please

Botbot · 19/06/2008 12:32

Subtle for me - and I work in publishing and make this sort of decision all the time, so I MUST be right

BecauseImWorthIt · 19/06/2008 12:33

I like both.

Brights - fall into the convention of all the other baby books, although they are least not ghastly pastel/primary colours. Makes them look energetic and dynamic - probably interesting reads. More in keeping with the tone/personality of MN - i.e. characterful and strong.

Subtle - tasteful and classic, serious and therefore probably in tune with the more intellectual/literary pretentions of MN. But also could look like boring text books.

Overall, though, graphically and visually I think the design is great. Not fluffy or cuddly and not a hun in sight.

Nagapie · 19/06/2008 12:35

Bright

largeginandtonic · 19/06/2008 12:36

Brights.

TheRedQueen · 19/06/2008 12:36

Bright!

umberella · 19/06/2008 12:37

the subtle colours for me i think

although i am not keen on the shades of plum and green.

if it were me I would stick with blues actually as it would be more in keeping with the web presence.

also- you should show them on that page as a group of subtle spines and a group of bright ones so that we can see them as a 'collection'. Not interspersed like that.

umberella · 19/06/2008 12:37

yikes, that sounded a bit stern.

umberella · 19/06/2008 12:38

the purple and blue 'subtle' spines are lovely.

SlightlyMadSweet · 19/06/2008 12:40

well I prefer the subtle colours with the B&W images.

BUT I am not keen on the actual shades chose for ht green and purple ones if that make sense. They are too drab.

squeaver · 19/06/2008 12:42

Subtle - but I don't like the green one. Bit puke-like
