Mumsnet Books - can we get your opinion on colours please?

Hello all,
As you probably know we've got a series of Mumsnet books coming out from next spring based on your collective wisdom. It's fair to say that there is a certain amount of disagreement amongst those involved as to which cover colours look best.

So we thought we'd ask you which you'd prefer, given that Mumsnetters are squarely in the target audience and all that. (We've promised not to tell you what we at HQ like by the way but suffice to say we're very much keener on one of sets than the other so you better get it right )

Basically there are 2 options for each of the four book covers - a more subtle and muted version, and a more vibrant and bolder version. You can see them here.

We'd be very grateful if you would let us know on this thread which of the options - subtle or bold - you'd prefer on your coffee table/ would be more likely to fork out for. If there's no clear consensus then we'll have a poll. Oh the excitement.

Many thanks,
MNHQ

Agree with lapin re the colours. Then the book title could be in black or grey. With just the title and "net" in white it looks odd. IMVVVHO.

I'm surprised you're not using the MN logo though. That carries a lot of weight and emotional promise, IMO

TigerFeet · 19/06/2008 13:09

[opens negotiations with MNHQ over consultation fees]

Amphibimum · 19/06/2008 13:09

hmmm, maybe lapin. or possibly make the letters of the website logo a bit, um, thinner for the book? the logo as is might look a bit clumsy on that layout.

hazeyjane · 19/06/2008 13:09

subtle

But actually the only one I'd buy would be the food one and the green is an unappetisingly sludgy shade of spinch soup. Can you tweak it for a nice fresh shade - rather than

TigerFeet · 19/06/2008 13:14

THE (black, font as current)
MUMSNET (logo as it appears online)
GUIDE (black, font as current)

BOOK TITLE (grey as per mumsnet logo or perhaps black - would have to see both before making final decision)

pics all same size

subtle colours (think farrow & ball one each from the red, yellow, green & blue pallettes)

[sends invoice to MNHQ for £300]

where are they being sold? online or in book shops or both?

Anna8888 · 19/06/2008 13:16

Subtle

Twiglett · 19/06/2008 13:19

they're both fine by me .. you can't judge by a spine though (particularly if coffee-tabling) you need to see the front

RubySlippers · 19/06/2008 13:23

subtle
when are they being published? Have a very stroppy toddler

Flamesparrow · 19/06/2008 13:23

Hmmm... I agree about pics lining up, and also about the NET being far too bright and stand outy.

controlfreakyagain · 19/06/2008 13:23

subtle.
the brights aren't "vibrant" so much as garish....
but the subtle green is a bit yuk.

Flamesparrow · 19/06/2008 13:23

Yes, we need front.

Plus my nappy question hasn't been answered.

PuppyMonkey · 19/06/2008 13:25

Turquoisey ones!

Amphibimum · 19/06/2008 13:26

why are all the people in the pics white? is that concious?

SheikYerbouti · 19/06/2008 13:26

Muted.

"Vibrant" should be replaced with "garish"

Btw, if you need them proof-read, I'm yer lady

PuppyMonkey · 19/06/2008 13:26

Bright turquoisey..

MaryAnnSingleton · 19/06/2008 13:27

go with the muted ones, definitely

Smithagain · 19/06/2008 13:28

Having seen them grouped together, subtle. They look more like a coherent set.

PuppyMonkey · 19/06/2008 13:28

No-one will notice a boring subtle cover.. MN is not a boring grey site

nappyaddict · 19/06/2008 13:30

i like the subtle colours but the bright green one
