mumsnet keeps freezing

Is anyone else having this problem.

For the past 3 days when I go to mumsnet and for instance start by looking at notifications, everything is fine.

Then when I see that a thread has quite few new posts so i think I will go and have a look, links are not longer clickable, and then I get a message saying web site is slowing down my browser.

This is not happening on any other web site I visit.

Is anyone else having this problem.

I’m having the same issue this morning, there are really big ads, covering the whole of the back, then ads on top of it, which I think is too much for many so the whole thing keeps freezing, as it can’t download it all, I keep seeing massive ads, that it looks like the forum sits on top of, but it’s struggling to download all the ads, so the forum doesn’t appear.

SlimShandy · 03/04/2026 12:19

Still happening - any update @MNHQ ? I'm not even able to close or skip the add in the bottom right corner.

Still doing it and can't even log out as it's frozen.

MN will be losing loads of £££ cos if this as it's a real PITA.

dontcallmelen · 03/04/2026 15:27

Same here been particularly bad the last few days, every time you try & click onto the next page of a thread or try “I’m on thread” it reloads or freezes then kicks you off the site completely it’s fucking farcical how bad the site is.

justasking111 · 03/04/2026 17:50

It's a bank holiday weekend now I wouldn't expect it to be fixed until next week.

Recklessismymiddlename · 03/04/2026 18:03

It’s been going on for months!

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 03/04/2026 18:05

I've had it the last week or so, Firefox and freezing - only loading half the page and telling me that something else I'm running is slowing down the program. The only other thing I am running is Word, pretty sure that's not doing it.

The whole system needs rewriting. maybe they just don't have the money. It's up for sale now perhaps new blood will have the funds.

Recklessismymiddlename · 03/04/2026 19:56

You would think they’d want the site in tip top condition if they are selling.

I use Firefox and the message it gives me is "This page (ie MN) is slowing down your browser" - and now cant remember what it says. Something like closing the tab or waiting.

But in fact if you try to close the tab, it resists that as well.

Hello @IwantToRetire that’s typically a browser issue (often ads/scripts hanging). Trying a private window usually helps narrow it down. Let us know if that makes a difference.

Sorry, I have been using Firefox for more years than I care to remember.

An although not the most used browser centrainly a common one.

I use the internet everyday, visiting a number of web sites.

No other web site causes this problem.

You cant really expect me (and others on this forum) to change our browser settings just for MN?

Seriously!

I have also been on MN for some years (not sure how many) but until recently have never, ever had this problem.

Whoever your tech person is, you need to ask them what change they have made that causes this to happen.

What you are saying is the same as saying to a driver that a stretch of road is really bumpy from potholes, but if you must keep on driving down, stop and change your everyday tyres for rough terrinve tyres.

As if!!!!

The repeated freezing over the last couple of days has been dreadful.

ipad safari - example circles turning and big blank space, nothing below it where ad should load.

Yesterday was terrible.

Have only just started to catch up on MN and it has frozen twice.

Yesterday I sent a report to Firefox giving the MN url, and wonder if they will report back.

Could be interesting!

It’s really bad today as well I’m giving up today only been on about ten minutes was painful trying to keep up with a thread I’m on so giving up for the rest of the day.

Recklessismymiddlename · 05/04/2026 20:04

I have a question please
what other sites would people use if MN is sold
or becomes unusable?

WeAllHaveWings · 05/04/2026 22:23

Still just as bad.

dontcallmelen · 07/04/2026 11:52

It’s even bloody worse today.

BeckyAMumsnet · 07/04/2026 15:13

Hi everyone, thanks so much to those who’ve reported the freezing. We know how annoying it is, and we’re really sorry it’s happening at all.

We’re digging into it now and trying to pin down exactly what’s causing it. The bits you’ve shared so far have been really helpful.

If you can, it would really help us if you could say what you were doing just before it froze. It looks like it might be linked to an ad loading, so if you happen to notice anything about the ad (what it was, where it showed up, screenshots if you caught it), that’s especially useful, but we know that’s not always easy.

Thanks for sticking with us while we sort it.

ghostyslovesheets · 07/04/2026 17:43

@BeckyAMumsnet its absolutely the ads - if I try and scroll at all before the ad loads I get half a post and it freezes. I have to wait for the top ad to load before I dare try and read a thread. Sometimes it doesn’t load and I have to close the window and open a new one. Worse since the last iPhone update

Atatwalker · 07/04/2026 19:02

I’m early on here now which surely isn’t ideal when you’re trying to sell.

dontcallmelen · 08/04/2026 12:54

Surely a quick way a few people at MN towers go on a iPad/iPhone browse for a few minutes & will see what the issues are the ads take forever to load & the site freezes or reloads threads constantly it also reloads a number of time when you click onto a new thread sometimes kicking you off the site altogether it’s not fecking rocket science would take very little time to observe for yourselves.

It's not affecting everyone though. I'm not having an issue on android.

There has been another thread about this running since November 2025, nothing has improved, just the occasional “we’re looking into it” message, so for at least six months HQ have been apparently trying to fix this problem and @dontcallmelen it has been suggested on that thread that someone in HQ use an iPad to see the problem for themselves, baffling not one of them has one.

Londonnight · 09/04/2026 07:46

@justasking111 I'm on android and I am having continuing problems with MN freezing.
