mumsnet keeps freezing

Is anyone else having this problem.

For the past 3 days when I go to mumsnet and for instance start by looking at notifications, everything is fine.

Then when I see that a thread has quite few new posts so i think I will go and have a look, links are not longer clickable, and then I get a message saying web site is slowing down my browser.

This is not happening on any other web site I visit.

Is anyone else having this problem.

Yes, I am. It's repeatedly crashing the Safari browser.

RedRiverShore6 · 15/03/2026 19:36

I have to keep closing down the Safari app as it slows down or crashes the whole lot, not just MN

Gribouille · 15/03/2026 19:36

Yes, same here.

GoldbergVariations · 15/03/2026 19:37

Yes

IwantToRetire · 15/03/2026 19:40

Thanks.

I should have added that I am using Firefox.

So not just me.

(Added to which it has just frozen while I was trying to start of new thread and the totally pointless AI title generator went into panic mode. But I fought back and got the title I wanted posted.)

Anyhow, it is making using mumsnet quite difficult and really irritating!

Cherrysherbet · 15/03/2026 19:41

Yes, same here. Very annoying. Only Mumsnet.

IwantToRetire · 15/03/2026 19:43

Is posting on Site Stuff the same as reporting, or is there a reporting process?

I think 3 days is quite a long time, but then if not reported they wont know.

Yes, happening to me - Safari desktop.

PurpleLovecats · 15/03/2026 19:46

Yep. Been going on for a long time now but they don’t seem to want to fix it.

Skippingads · 15/03/2026 19:47

Yes. Me too.

Jellytotsapplepie · 15/03/2026 19:51

Mines been freezing for days now - it’s really bloody annoying

YerMotherWasAHamster · 15/03/2026 19:51

PurpleLovecats · 15/03/2026 19:46

Yep. Been going on for a long time now but they don’t seem to want to fix it.

That's interesting.

I haven't had a problem until a couple of days ago.

Awful since the last ios update - takes ages to load if it does - scroll down to half the OP then a blank page

worked out it’s the ads - if you wait for over a minute or refresh and the headline ad appears it then works.

shame the adds take precedent over user experience!

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 16/03/2026 09:04

Keeps happening to me, too, on Firefox desktop, but it's been like that for months, so I use Duckduckgo for MN only, which I find quite annoying but less annoying than the constant Firefox messages that MN is slowing the browser down!

KellyMumsnet · 16/03/2026 09:27

Morning @IwantToRetire. Thanks for getting in touch about this. We are aware of this issue and that it's something that has been going on for some time. We do appreciate everyone's frustration about it.

We're still running tests to work out exactly what's causing it and how we can fix it. If you notice that you have a video ad popping up when the site slows or crashes, please close the video player. It doesn't seem to be the case with everyone but that is helping for some people. As soon as we have any more information, we will update everyone on Site Stuff.

Skippingads · 16/03/2026 16:13

Just happened now.

Another thread from November 25 which many have reported the issues with the freezing reloading ghost typing etc so doesn’t appear as the “Testing” is going well the constant reloading/freezing unresponsive threads has been particularly bad again in the last few days, does also seem to affect those of us using iPads /safari more it’s infuriating also MN drains my battery & makes my device very hot which doesn’t happen with any other site wouldn’t put any money on MN resolving the issues though.

BedlamEveryday · 16/03/2026 16:45

I had this on Safari for a long time so a couple
of years ago I moved on to the Google app. Now the Google app is freezing on me, but Safari is working again.

Jellytotsapplepie · 16/03/2026 21:47

im accessing through chrome now which seems to have solved it

RedRiverShore6 · 17/03/2026 07:42

It's fine for me on Safari on iMac but terrible on iPad, I'm away soon so I guess not much MNing for me then. I might try the Google app on iPad because the whole of Safari stalls and I have to keep closing it.

IwantToRetire · 17/03/2026 17:36

Since yesterday I have not had freezing.

Since if first started for me, less that a week ago, I haven't changed any settings on my computer.

Windows 11, Firefox so not sure why it should have started and now stopped.

Particularly as others are saying they have been having problems for more than a few months.

Seems I spoke too soon.

Almost from the moment I posted here I started having the freezing problems again.

According to AI:

Common Reasons for the Warning:

  • Heavy JavaScript: The website is running excessive scripts.

Not saying it is that, but have not and am not having problems on any other web site.

Atatwalker · 18/03/2026 06:35

I’m having the same issue when I use safari.

I am also getting the huge ad covering the post button.

it’s genuinely making the site unusable. And has reduced the amount of time I spend here.
