mumsnet keeps freezing

IwantToRetire · 15/03/2026 19:11

Is anyone else having this problem.

For the past 3 days when I go to mumsnet and for instance start by looking at notifications, everything is fine.

Then when I see that a thread has quite few new posts so i think I will go and have a look, links are not longer clickable, and then I get a message saying web site is slowing down my browser.

This is not happening on any other web site I visit.

Is anyone else having this problem.

I’m giving up on it. It’s absolutely shite.

Recklessismymiddlename · 24/03/2026 22:17

Yes I know it’s bad form but can anyone recommend a similar site for someone (me) in their 60’s with adult children, where I can be anonymous. I have found MN to be so helpful over the years but currently really struggling with getting on here. I can’t do Reddit as confuses me. I don’t have Facebook or instagram or twitter. I’m such a technophobe as well.

IwantToRetire · 27/03/2026 01:58

Today (or rather yesterday 26/3) has been really bad.

Freezing over and over again. Have to go to new tab, and it takes ages to close the tab where MN is freezing.

Have no realised that if at the point of freezing I happen to be clicking on one of the notification links, it thinks I have got to whatever comments have been made on a thread. But I haven't. So when I can get to the notification list I in fact then miss or have no idea that there were new notifications.

This makes naivigating and keeping up with threads really frustrating.

NB This does NOT happen on any other web site I visit.

Mine does this and it is the ad blocker causing it. I get a notice saying ad are blocked when they aren't, then it slows down, stops responding and crashes. I use Firefox. It doesn't happen anywhere else.

Recklessismymiddlename · 27/03/2026 06:37

I’m sure traffic must have fallen as it’s so difficult to get on Mn and post.

I don't have an ad blocker on and mine is doing it.

SlimShandy · 27/03/2026 11:58

Same is happening to me on chromebook - I'll get some way down the comments, and then the rest of the page is blank and it says 'unresponsive', do I want to wait or exit page. Neither option does anything. It's infuriating - I have to day off and just wanted to slob around a bit and fanny about on Mumsnet for an hour or so, but I guess I'll have to do something useful instead.

ParmaVioletTea · 27/03/2026 12:18

I don't run an ad blocker, but MN is now pretty much impossible to read on my phone, via a Chrome web browser. Doesn't happen with other websites.

IwantToRetire · 27/03/2026 17:50

I dont have an ad blocker either.(*)

I cant understand why this fact be fixed. If this mean undoing updates until it stops happening so as to identify the likely source this is what should happen.

(*) Although come to think about it I think I did block a web address during the time ads were covering the whole page or hijacking you to another web site. And I think it is the company that supples the "feed" of ads to appear on web site pages when they are viewed.

If it is them and MN is still using them when they have already created problems seems mad that they have continued their contract with them.

The url is something like -eu-adsystem.amazon. But not saying it is.

" ... a website using eu.amazon-adsystem.com can absolutely be slowed down by it. Ad scripts like those from Amazon are typically heavy, requiring additional HTTP requests, JavaScript execution, and server lookups, which can increase page-weight and delay the rendering of content, particularly if the scripts are not optimized or if network congestion occurs. ... "

Disclaimer! I am not saying it is this ... but really dont understand how this keeps on happening.

IwantToRetire · 27/03/2026 20:30

It is still this URL.

Have just waited and waited to start a new thread, and happened to look down and saw at the bottom on the screen loading ... amazon-adsystem.com

Today it has been very bad for me, I only stay on MN for short bursts. Also today for the first time I got a pop up telling me to turn adblocker off, it already was. So I turned it back on and the site worked for another short while. Next time I tried it recognised adblocker was on so told me to turn it off. Using Firefox on a laptop.

FlyingFlowers · 28/03/2026 07:04

Freezing on me yesterday during the day. Less so in evening but again today. Chrome on laptop.

Recklessismymiddlename · 28/03/2026 07:30

I’ve installed DuckDuckGo app. So far so good. Thanks to @MagpiePi for recommendation

Londonnight · 28/03/2026 08:15

Still freezing for me too. The only way to sort it is to close the tab and start again, but then it freezes again. A never ending circle!!!

No ad blocker. Chrome on laptop.

Amyrallis · 28/03/2026 19:52

MN is becoming unusable.

mumsnet keeps freezing
IwantToRetire · 28/03/2026 21:30

I've been watching the list of links to other websites when it starts to freeze, and not saying it is the culprit, but analytics@tiktok takes ages to connect!

Ah, only just seen this thread.
Yes, mine has been freezing for about a week or more, but seems to be worse yesterday and today.
I can continue to scroll down the page, readying posts, but not post, or click a reaction.
It then says it is not responding and do I want to wait or exit page.
I'm on a laptop, using chrome.

justasking111 · 28/03/2026 21:50

It's hopeless. I just give up and do something else

Igneococcus · 29/03/2026 08:26

I have the same problem. I delete cookies and then it works again for a while but it's so annoying. Also, every time I do this I notice that there are like 40+ cookies. Isn't that rather excessive? I have deleted cookies immediately before I came into site stuff to see if there is a thread about this and there are already 33 cookies again.

MustTryHarderAndHarder · 29/03/2026 08:28

Yes happening to me on Firefox.

I will also get a whole page of adverts and my browser will completely freeze.

MustTryHarderAndHarder · 29/03/2026 08:29

Amyrallis · 28/03/2026 19:52

MN is becoming unusable.

That is what I got on Firefox too.

Imdunfer · 29/03/2026 09:41

I get one advert the size of a page that is completely blank and won't load. The only way out is to close the tab.

RedRiverShore6 · 29/03/2026 10:00

Mine is still really bad, it still freezes the whole of Safari and I have to close it, I had a look this morning on my iPad which I don't generally use for MN now, just using it on iMac Safari, my use has cut down loads though so maybe a good thing. Also I noticed for a while on an open BBC news tab on the iPad there was the MN blue emblem up the corner like it had invaded it, it's gone now, thank goodness.

Recklessismymiddlename · 29/03/2026 10:34

My one comment about DuckDuckGo app is that it jumps a lot when you go to eg ops posts or the last posts I’m watching. So I have to scroll up and try and remember what I’ve previously read. So not perfect but better than it has been.
