Site continually crashing and reloading

I am so utterly sick of this, it’s been going on for months but now it’s even worse, in the space of 15 minutes the site has crashed and reloaded 3 times, each time I have lost my post I was typing, it’s infuriating, I am on an iPad using safari. This has been highlighted by numerous posters time and time again and nothing changes.

Hi all

We have carried out a huge amount of real-world testing and dug into performance logs and browser behaviour across different devices, browsers, connection types and browsing styles to try to figure out the most likely causes.

Based on what we now know, we have been testing improvements but sadly we've not pinned down the issue yet, although we have definitely narrowed down the most likely causes.

We are continuing to run targeted fixes - thanks to everyone who has shared recordings, screenshots and reports - we promise to keep you posted on our progress.

PuppyMonkey · 23/12/2025 21:50

Thanks @LilyMumsnet - what is on your narrowed down list, just out of interest?

The drop down video ad hopefully ..

The drop down video ad hopefully ..

As a start, that one is not rocket science (not directed at you!). It’s painfully obvious how long it takes that space at the top of the page to load to not have an inkling that might just be one of the many issues users are having.

Exactly!! The page is stuck, can’t scroll until the ad appears at the top

Pinkfluffypencilcase · 24/12/2025 17:09

And i just find it rude that once I’ve started reading the stupid video pops down a second later. Stop disturbing me ffs!

PuppyMonkey · 25/12/2025 13:12

<<whispers>> I’ve just come on this thread and noticed the video advert at the top is gone today. Is it just my phone? Is it a MN Christmas miracle?

Oooo
thanks mnhq!

Pinkfluffypencilcase · 25/12/2025 13:30

No it’s back
but at least get to read one page before it appears.

PuppyMonkey · 25/12/2025 14:04

Yep, jinxed it - went on another thread and it was back and crashed again. Sad

TappaMcFeety · 25/12/2025 14:05

No change for me today. Still freezing and blank page whilst it takes forever to load.

Traceysgoingtobelivid · 25/12/2025 17:47

Well today I have had to reload the site approximately every 5 minutes as the page completely freezes, I have also yet again had the infuriating delayed typing. I think HQ need to work in conjunction with Apple as it seems Apple devices and mumsnet are incompatible.

Happens all the time with me too. iPhone safari. I thought it was a “feature” as it always happens s if I try to search the thread for a word which I think is something MN monetise?

the ads cover people’s posts too so sometimes I don’t know what’s happened in the thread!

Sbmpp · 25/12/2025 18:50

@Traceysgoingtobelivid Happens all the time to me too. On my iPad. The freezing drives me batty.

ElBandito · 26/12/2025 19:05

Yes, today the page loading on the site has been absolute shite.

Barleycat · 27/12/2025 17:35

Im using android and the site is virtually unusable for me atm as keeps crashing.

PuppyMonkey · 29/12/2025 10:27

Just popping on here after reading a recommendation for DuckDuckGo browser (instead of Safari which is what I was using on my iPhone) - so far, so good. Seems to have cured all the issues I was having on Safari (threads freezing and pages going blank and reloading, little messages coming up saying “page reloading” etc). Really weird using MN again without any issues.

I thought using this used to result in endless messages about the need to disable adblockers and log in again, PuppyMonkey?

Though if that's stopped I expect it'll soon restart again ...

I’m using DuckDuckGo too, and it works perfectly. I’m particularly happy not to have to see that ad with close-up footage of people scratching and scratching at their dry skin - it made me feel sick.

So far, it’s been fine. I used to have the Adblock thing turned on and used Safari fine, then the messages started from MN about having to turn my Adblocker off if I wanted to continue using MN so I turned it off. I thought DuckDuckGo was just a different browser, rather than an ad blocker?

Footache83 · 31/12/2025 08:26

‘Narrowed down’ my arse, of course it’s the ridiculous video ad. It’s always the ads, I had a similar long running thread a few years back about something similar and many mumsnet made all the right soothing sounds while doing bugger all to fix the issue.

I’m on Chrome on an iPhone and the constant reloading is driving me nuts.

DuckDuckGo doesn’t make any difference for me.

Cherrysoup · 03/01/2026 17:10

For weeks now, I have the site freezing/reloading/crashing-ipad on chrome. It wound let me scroll down long threads, just keeps re-loading and going back to the first post. Anything over 100 or so posts is pointless trying to access them. So frustrating.

ILoveDuckDuckGo · 03/01/2026 19:30

It is the trackers. Download DuckDuckGo and use it for MN. All the issues are gone. The website is fast, no freezing, overheating, battery draining, no ads of any type. MN as it was back in the old days.
There are way too many trackers. At any given time, there are more than 15 companies competing to show you an ad.

Nincompoo · 03/01/2026 19:33

I was so sick of it I paid for premium and as if by magic it stopped, it also stopped my phone getting red hot, and now my battery lasts twice as long. I’m also not getting tracked by a million websites!

MN know exactly what the issue is, they just don’t want to fix it.
