A few updates to Mumsnet 🎨

You might notice things are looking a bit different today. We’ve given Mumsnet a colour refresh, based on feedback from you in our surveys (thank you!).

We’ve also moved a couple of things around to reduce clutter and make things easier to find:

• Watch now sits under the OP post
• Report has moved into the meatball menu (the three dots on posts)

Why does everything have to change all the time?? I hate the new iOs 26, and now this! Sorry to get all mumsy about it, but it's like people moving things around in your kitchen - like when you're in the middle of cooking and you've got raw chicken on one hand and discover someone's moved the knives. They were perfectly fine where they were!

It's horrible, especially the foul peach colour that has replaced purple. Calling it 'magenta' in the menu is completely inaccurate, it's nothing like magenta. Why can't you offer the old colours in the menu choice, in addition to these new ones?

Pink and blue? I don’t like it, it looks like my ipad is dying. I had mine set to nice dark green and purple.

I can barely read the thread lists. It's far too bright and the blue writing on a blue background is painful to read.

This is a very good point.

Let's face it; Mumsnet are going to do whatever they want here, and are unlikely to listen to comments about the brightness or 70s peach tones. Certainly not anytime soon, anyway. No-one likes change and they can't please everyone. MN won't bin off in hours what must have been a sizeable coding project just because of the complaints here.

But the point about safety, that was made above, should not be ignored and should be changed quickly.

Same - when I start dozing off on the sofa while scrolling (happens far too often!) I used to wake up to me halfway through reporting a post!!

Thanks so much to everyone who’s taken the time to share feedback on the recent updates, we’re working our way through your comments!

A couple of quick updates:

• If you’d prefer a different look, you can customise colours under Settings > Talk settings. From there, you can choose how your own posts and threads by author are displayed.
• We’ll also be adding the Watch button back to the bottom of the page shortly.

I’ve changed both to pale blue so that’s a bit better. Still do not like the ‘My Posts’ though and can’t change the colour of that box!

Huge error of judgment. Way too bright. Not comparable to any other site I've ever been on.

Was any consideration given to users with less than perfect vision, @LizzyMumsnet ? I'm in my 70s, very shortsighted, and on an eternal waiting list to have the severe cataract in my left eye dealt with. The new brightness level is too high for comfortable reading and the change from clear vivid post highlighting colours to the new baby pastel ones is unhelpful and visually very unattractive. As for the unnecessary and obtrusive Original poster and My posts buttons, words almost fail me... That's what the post background colours are for!

I would like to know this too! I'd be happy to complete the survey, but I have no clue as to what page they are asking about.

Can't even be arsed to copy and paste my moans about the "Active" issue for the nth time, but please MN, just fix the stuff that is broken before tinkering about with colours and brightness and silly red labels.

"My Post" yes, I know it's my post because I bloody well wrote it and it has my username at the top (and it is now highlighted in a fetching, decomposing salmon colour). If the people that you surveyed can't remember who they are or what they wrote then I despair. Maybe we could have cute little animal stickers like you get at nursery to identify your coat peg?

I hate the magenta. I want the suffragette green and purple I used to have. Keep the new colours by all means but please have the originals as an option.

The new colours are awful. I don’t know if I will be able to continue using MN as the so-called improvements are triggering a migraine.

It's just as well there are those headers because the new colours are too undifferentiated from each other but they weren't necessary before. Also, why give the option of grey when that's the default for the quote mechanism?

Just been through a few threads and agree with this. It is so bright!

@LizzyMumsnet WHEN is the issue going to be fixed re main active page automatically going to the top when you go back to it from opening a thread? There is a long standing thread about this in site stuff with several promises from MNHQ re fixes but it's not been fixed. Really frustrating. Please get it sorted. It's annoying when things like the site colour can be messed around with but basic problems with site functionality are not fixed.
