You might notice things are looking a bit different today. We’ve given Mumsnet a colour refresh, based on feedback from you in our surveys (thank you!).

We’ve also moved a couple of things around to reduce clutter and make things easier to find:

  • Watch now sits under the OP post
  • Report has moved into the meatball menu (the three dots on posts)

As ever, we’d love to hear what you think, so please share your feedback below.

I mean if they'd tested it with a selection of mumsnet users presumably they would have popped up on the threads now to explain what they liked about it and why they supported the changes
given that no one had put their hands up to say they were either surveyed and asked for changes or were part of the test users for this change it does kind of make you wonder who thought this was an improvement

Sowingbees · 19/09/2025 19:41

When I blink I can honestly see the outline of the MN website in my eyelids.

I didn't know I had any visual needs but I can't use this website.

I am genuinely sad as I get a lot of pleasure being on MN, I'm not quite sure what I'm going to do with my evening, as I'm too knackered from work to do anything else.

Kreepture · 19/09/2025 19:41

all we need is upvote/downvote arrows and MN will complete its morphing into looking like the Daily Mail comment section.

It's not true, no one tested this or wanted it.

DahliaBlooming · 19/09/2025 19:51

It's too bright and makes my eyes go squizzy. One good thing I guess is that it's made the site so unpleasant to look at I have spent very little time here since the changes.

Hobnobswantshernameback · 19/09/2025 19:52

I know
I was being somewhat sarcastic
I'm just waiting for Justine to appear to talk at us like naughty five year olds
Can you tell I've been on Mumsnet for far too many years
plus ca change

CriticalCondition · 19/09/2025 20:03

Yes. It's very telling that nobody, but nobody has come on to say 'Ah, I remember that survey/focus group/questionnaire about functionality/colours/buttons.'

Whether you were specifically asked/selected or felt strongly enough to voluntarily contribute your views to a general survey, either way you would remember. Whether you liked it or not.

All this 'it's what you told us you wanted' from MNHQ and studiously ignoring difficult questions is starting to feel a bit gaslighty.

Thelnebriati · 19/09/2025 20:10

Its awful. Puts me in mind of the Windows XP desktop with its Fischer Price toddlers colour scheme of royal blue and bright green. Graphic designers are spendy but there are some very good free websites that will help you design a tasteful colour scheme with a balanced palette.
The colour choices in Settings are like a Dulux colour chart; the colours bear no resemblance to the names. The 'green' is actually a sand colour and I'm highly miffed that I can no longer have the pages in a tasteful green, magenta and white.

AutieAdult · 19/09/2025 20:15

Going to be here a lot less - too bright even if the white hasn’t changed.

GarlicPint · 19/09/2025 20:51

I did get the survey. I remember thinking it was poorly designed, with inherent bias. No recollection of the details, just of being irritated.

If you ask "Which of these do you prefer?" you are not discovering what users want!

Did they show the full pages as they look now?

You're literally the first person I've seen say they actually got a survey.

We're any of the options this bloody bright and did they show the ridiculous your post buttons?

Confusedmumofteen · 19/09/2025 22:06

It's so bright that I'm struggling to use it.

Two other posters have said they had a survey that asked very general questions about whether they knew about/used the existing colour options but gave no examples of alternatives and didn't ask whether a change was wanted.

ALongProcess · 19/09/2025 23:18

Awful. Agree with all the other posters who have said it's far too bright and garish. Bring back the inoffensive green please!! No way I can mumsnet-surf before dropping off to sleep now 😪

ALongProcess · 19/09/2025 23:19

and the peach is even more gross! who on earth dreamt these up?!

GarlicPint · 19/09/2025 23:23

AutieAdult · 19/09/2025 20:57

Did they show the full pages as they look now?

Not as I recall. Can't be sure. Anyway, if they'd shown me, say, one like this and one with bright pink instead of blue, then asked "Which do you prefer?" I'd have picked the blue. This is not a statement of positive liking for the bright blue.

GarlicPint · 19/09/2025 23:24

Yes, they did! I can't imagine I'd have said I liked them. They're pointless and ugly.

BucketOsnacks · 19/09/2025 23:32

Way too bright and unpleasant on the eyes.

Ksibeij · 19/09/2025 23:36

What the hell, now I've got the stupid auto scrolling happening too! It goes too fast, I can't read the threads and I can't slow it down!
What with the terrible new blue look, the problems with going straight to top of active list each time when you press 'back', and the horrible drop down videos, MN has succeeded in making this site completely unusable!! @MNHQ make it stop!!!!

@LizzyMumsnet moving ‘report’ makes it more difficult to actually report threads. Is this deliberate? Hmm

NettleandBramble · 19/09/2025 23:42

Why is my screen suddenly scrolling? Is it this site or some sort of android update? I keep having to refresh to make it stop.

DoneAndNotDusted · 19/09/2025 23:45

Agree it's too bright and I get headaches easily when this happens. I have changed the OP colour and my post colour which helps. But it's pointless to have banners with Original Poster and My Posts - we can all work this out for ourselves.

BIWI · 19/09/2025 23:47

The ‘new’ blue is so insipid. Makes me think we should be posting about unicorns and mermaids and fairies … Hmm
FFS. What was wrong with the strong blue before?

Bettalam · 20/09/2025 00:43

I think I've figured out why we all hate the blue it's almost as torturous as those bloody horrible blue Christmas lights. They actually make me angry as does the new MN colours!!
