You might notice things are looking a bit different today. We’ve given Mumsnet a colour refresh, based on feedback from you in our surveys (thank you!).

We’ve also moved a couple of things around to reduce clutter and make things easier to find:

  • Watch now sits under the OP post
  • Report has moved into the meatball menu (the three dots on posts)

As ever, we’d love to hear what you think, so please share your feedback below.

I like the change TBH 😊

And please can you do something about the huge

my post

because that is a danger for DV and coercive control victims.

thank you.

That is such a good point @LizzyMumsnet. Dangerous for DV / abuse victims.

Maybe it’s allegorical.

Colours associated with the suffragettes and therefore with women’s rights are binned off 💜💚 and in their place colours associated with regressive stereotypes are imposed 💙🩷

Maybe MN’s telling us something.

🧐

I also want the old suffragette colours back!

GeniuneWorkOfFart · 20/09/2025 08:24

Also the new colours are so pale that when you scroll quickly down/back up a thread looking for your posts, your posts don't stand out anything like as well as they used to so you scroll past them 😡 The YOUR POSTS nonsense doesn't help with this because, but a decent colour option (like what we had access too 2 days ago) does.

SummerFrog25 · 20/09/2025 08:32

Kreepture · 18/09/2025 22:57

slightly odd question, but why does the box say 'my posts' and not just 'my post'
it doesn't DO anything, it isn't a clicky button, it doesn't open all my posts in the thread, it's just a label like i'm on the EA bug reporting forum where they feel the need to colour code and label every post depending on its fix level

Therefore, it doesn't need to be plural, just singular.

Now i will stop being a pedant.

That bugged me too, but in the battle to get the ugly monstrosity removed it seemed somewhat irrelevant.

SummerFrog25 · 20/09/2025 08:38

Well I'm going to need a new habit for Saturday morning as MN is no longer a good start to it!

might be a good thing.

IkeaJesusChrist · 20/09/2025 09:21

The new colour scheme is awful, fortunately I tend to use dark mode anyway.

Some people really cant handle change

Why should we if there was no need for it

Explain exactly what was wrong with it before

Nanny0gg · 20/09/2025 11:00

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 18/09/2025 17:15

And peachy.

Quite.

If anyone wants to know what magenta looks like, just check an ink cartridge.

It isn't peachy pink

Kreepture · 20/09/2025 11:06

magenta was based on the colour of the fuchsia flower, if anyone is interested.

It's horrible salmon-pink and reminds me of the kind of bathroom suite you could buy in the 80s when coloured acrylic was THE thing for baths. What with that and the washed-out green-brown which was called avocado in 80s bathroom catalogues and it feels MN has entered a time-warp.

My post copied from the other thread got any comments @LizzyMumsnet or @KatyMumsnet

@MNHQ has decided that dyslexic people shouldn't be allowed to use mumsnet nor anyone with migraines or visual issues. The site is now effectively unusable for us. The colour change has made it migraine inducing and make it unusable for anyone with visual issues so the only option is to put it in dark mode which for many with dyslexia very difficult to read as the letters appear to move over the page when reading the white on black. Now that the page is moving up on its own (which has just started for me) means I and anyone else with visual processe dyslexia cant use the site and screen reading apps now won't function. So all in all the new site is actively discriminating against disabled users well done @MNHQ atleast we now know what you think about us and how you believe we should be excluded from your site

Why should change for change’s sake, especially when inferior, be ‘handled’? Why should we just put up or shut up? Without posters there is no MN.

I can’t use the dark mode, it’s horrible. If it becomes obvious MN doesn’t care about the changes then I won’t stay. I suffer from migraines so it will have to be a no from me if it doesn’t improve.

Hint to MN. Change it back to its normal setting and we can all pretend it never happened and we won’t think that you don’t actually give a f*ck about your users.

lcakethereforeIam · 20/09/2025 12:24

I'm feeling that MN was subscribing to better to beg forgiveness than ask permission.

Please let us have our suffragette colours back.

Nanny0gg · 20/09/2025 13:38

Is there any chance of @LizzyMumsnet or anyone else coming back after 100s of posts to give some sort of response?

@KatyMumsnet responded yesterday to tell us nothing is changing back til next week.

i guess the IT team don't work weekends.. which imho is a pisstake for them making such drastic changes late on a thursday, knowing there is fuck all chance of anything going wrong/breaking being fixed for the next 4-5 days.

BIWI · 20/09/2025 13:46

@LizzyMumsnet The colour change is NOT a ‘refresh’. It totally changes the look and feel of Mumsnet.

It has moved us away from bold, strong and serious to something much weaker and fluffy. Which is not what MN is about!

What was the point of the change? What were you looking to achieve? And why did you think it needed to change?

The semiotics of colour

A wide range of colours is displayed in three rows of five columns, each dot has a drop shadow behind it.

If it's anything like what happened on Ravelry, they'll just refuse to address the issues and hope everyone forgets about it. I hope I'm wrong but I feel that the changes will remain in place.

Ah. Missed that one

Awrite · 20/09/2025 14:18

Agree with the massive consensus - it's far too bright.

I like to read MN late at night but the brightness will impact on my sleep so please change it back.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 20/09/2025 14:58

Kreepture · 20/09/2025 11:06

magenta was based on the colour of the fuchsia flower, if anyone is interested.

Ironically, I think the 'red' buttons for posts are coded as 'magenta' & 'fuchsia' - can't remember which way round for OP & user. (I looked at the html.)

IzzyHandsIsMySpiritAnimal · 20/09/2025 15:35

It's too bright and contrasty for me. I'd like to have the option to set it back to how it was.
As others have said, it's tricky for visual impariment.

Lifestooshort71 · 20/09/2025 15:49

Sometimes, when I open a thread, the page scrolls up all on its own! It means I can't quote or like anything and tbh I can't be arsed to try and skim read them.....is this to do with the changes or just a nasty coincidence??

stringsoup · 20/09/2025 15:57

Why, just why?
Have we had areason yet?
