You might notice things are looking a bit different today. We’ve given Mumsnet a colour refresh, based on feedback from you in our surveys (thank you!).

We’ve also moved a couple of things around to reduce clutter and make things easier to find:

  • Watch now sits under the OP post
  • Report has moved into the meatball menu (the three dots on posts)

As ever, we’d love to hear what you think, so please share your feedback below.

Young male web designers.
Site has to look child friendly, and be aimed at women, and all women love pastels, especially salmon pink and baby blue...🙄

I could just about tolerate the babyish look and sickly colours however, if it wasn't giving me blurred vision.
I don't understand how even the dark mode is still too bright. As a migraine sufferer, I normally have the brightness on my laptop set to 50%. For mn, as of yesterday, I have it at 35% and it's still too glaring. I've tried all three settings and changed the colours but it's still unusable.

I'm walking away now, I can't afford to have a permanent headache.

Howinthehelldidthishappen · 19/09/2025 06:52

It's very garish. And far too bright. Reminiscent of a brightly coloured childrens programme.
I can't believe anyone would have actually asked for this.

@LizzyMumsnet please can you put the time and user names back on deleted and withdrawn posts, it’s important to know if it’s our own posts that have been deleted and also we need to know if we want to interact with posters whose posts break talk guidelines, posters who break talk guidelines shouldn’t be hidden.

I completely agree, this is worrying. Here is an example. Who was this? Was it me? Was it someone who continued to troll the thread? Was it a poster who people can recognise as a poster of offensive things that people can disengage with? Was it someone who posted something sensible that still got deleted?

@LizzyMumsnet what was the thinking behind this change?

I don't like the bright blue and can't stand the bright pink. It hurts my eyes. Please change it back or give us the option!!

Sowingbees · 19/09/2025 07:13

I normally read this at night. The blue is just too bright, I didn't spend any time on it last night.

I think the report being hidden is a dreadful idea. Remove the useless add post and put the report back please.

LoafofSellotape · 19/09/2025 07:15

This blue is hideous, who thought it was good idea,it's giving Cbeebies vibes!

MalinandGo · 19/09/2025 07:15

Add post is worse than useless. It encourages people to reply directly to a single post without reading the rest of the thread.

ratinamustardhat · 19/09/2025 07:29

Oh lord, I just tried on the laptop. It's even worse than on the phone. Dazzlingly bright, and insufficient contrast any more to help me see or navigate.
We cannot seriously be expected to adjust the screen brightness for just this website.
I'm really, really upset at the lack of testing and forethought behind these changes.

boatyardblues · 19/09/2025 07:31

Posted this on another thread. Reposting here so MNHQ see it.

I’m finding the new colour scheme uncomfortable to read. I have an eye condition which means I can’t switch to dark mode to skirt the issue. Was this current make-over subjected to any accessibility testing?

In addition to the above, the colours for customisation are too wishy washy and similar and I concerns about the safety women experiencing DV.

These changes feel really poorly thought out and unnecessary.

BruisedNeckMeat · 19/09/2025 07:33

It’s so awful It’s actually helping me quit my Mumsnet addiction!

Highlighta · 19/09/2025 07:34

Oh, so there is a thread for this. Since yesterday I thought I pressed a setting by mistake as just had to get that blue toned down. I toggled and tweaked every setting possible.

Until I see it is not just me.....

It is too bright MNHQ! That blue, please change the tone. It is putting stress on the eyes.

This is something I am not going to get used to as much as people think we might. It is causing eye strain.

Yes this. I get that websites need to stay current and that means the occasional refresh etc, but this is so out of keeping with the previous subtle tones and is so flipping dayglo bright that it's very very unpleasant.

Can't we at least have the option to have classic colours? Then we can vote with our feet (thumbs?)...

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 19/09/2025 07:37

TwelvePercent · 19/09/2025 00:08

.It's a really crap update.

NHS blue.
Washed out highlight colours.
Nobody's happy.

It feels like something my employer would do.

This. @LizzyMumsnet you said you wanted to hear what we thought, this is it. Please do something about the colours, the eye strain is off the charts.

NapoleonsToe · 19/09/2025 07:51

Please get rid of the original poster and my post labels on every one of those posts. It takes up a pointless line of if space, and it's much easier to scroll looking for an obviously different coloured post, rather than a line of if text. The colours are so washed out I can't now spot my own and the OP's post any more. It's really affected how easily I read threads

Highlighta · 19/09/2025 07:54

I won't be back until this is sorted.

I am reading this thread on my laptop as I thought it may be better than the phone. I think it is worse due to the page being bigger.

I have to keep looking away and out of the window as I cannot focus on the text as the bright blue is so prominent it is like it is jumping out of the page at me.

There was absolutely no thought for user comfort here.

Logged back on this morning to see what other fresh hell there is - and you're right, this is absolutely appalling! If a user has broken the rules during a discussion we're taking part in, their names should NOT be obscured along with their posts. MN this is too far, you're infantilising us. We are creating the bloody content for MN, and now we can't even fully participate in it! It's really important to know if the person who just had a post deleted is the same person who was cruising very close to the edge in a debate you were having with them. For MN to know, god-like, and for we lesser mortals to be in the dark, is patronising and potentially unsafe.

Not to mention the infantile pastel colour-coding. We're all adult women here MN, not toddlers.

nornironlady · 19/09/2025 07:55

Mumsnet has become unusable for me. Very disappointed to have to step away for the sake of my health.

SparklyGlitterballs · 19/09/2025 08:01

I think the colour change brightness, along with the constant intrusive videos popping in to the side of the screen will be the final straws for me. Of all the useful updates that have been asked for and not made, and you do this.....

LindorDoubleChoc · 19/09/2025 08:03

Sorry to shout @LizzyMumsnet BUT WHY HAVE THE BOOKMARK FUNCTION WHEN IT DOESN'T WORK?

@LizzyMumsnet what was the thinking behind this change?

I had completely missed this - bloody hell, who thought this was a good idea? I want to know who's broken the talk guidelines so I can keep an eye on them, esp if they do it repeatedly. Why provide them with anonymity?

My screen today is two thirds ads (bright red Lotto on either side of my screen plus 2 adverts for the same Remington hairdryer for some reason. Talk is a tiny bar in the middle.

@LizzyMumsnet come on, you've had enough feedback to tell you the changes are awful. What are you and the team doing about it??

Swandry · 19/09/2025 08:05

Yeah @LizzyMumsnet I am really sorry but I’ll be checking in periodically to see if you’ve changed it and unless you do I won’t be able to post because of the eye strain and headaches this causes.

Didn’t realise until now that when a post was deleted / withdrawn the persons name was also now gone - what is the rationale for that? I like to see the name so I can avoid them if it’s someone I think is trolling me or who has posted and broken guidelines. This change makes no sense.

Swandry · 19/09/2025 08:06

And please can you do something about the huge

my post

because that is a danger for DV and coercive control victims.

thank you.

This should surly be optional.
I'm incredibly jaded a minor cynic and suspect that in spite of the pledges that our feedback matters, nothing will change here unless the £££ stop rolling in. Happy to be proved wrong though @LizzyMumsnet .

anyolddinosaur · 19/09/2025 08:14

@LizzyMumsnet being able to choose one of a limited number of crap colours under settings does not make this change much more acceptable. They are only slightly less nausea provoking.

ExpressCheckout · 19/09/2025 08:17

@LizzyMumsnet Sorry, but logging off now until it's changed back as it's giving me a migraine. Sorry, but you should have tested this first!
