You might notice things are looking a bit different today. We’ve given Mumsnet a colour refresh, based on feedback from you in our surveys (thank you!).

We’ve also moved a couple of things around to reduce clutter and make things easier to find:

  • Watch now sits under the OP post
  • Report has moved into the meatball menu (the three dots on posts)

As ever, we’d love to hear what you think, so please share your feedback below.

What DO you get if you go to Premium? Decent colours, or has that changed as well?

I think that someone on this topic today said that if you pay, you can see all your posts on a thread - but I might be wrong about that.

That's in the dropdown meatball menu, not the stupid red lozenge.

Haulage · 18/09/2025 23:03

medievalpenny · 18/09/2025 22:18

This wasn't accessibility tested at all before rolling out, was it?

It's pointless saying we can change the colours in settings when the new colours are barely distinguishable from white.

And blue text is difficult to read as people get older and their eyesight changes. Blue text on a blue background is even worse - it's basically camouflaged.

Ah now, that’s not true. The new colours are distinguishable from white. They look like when your white washing gets a dark t-shirt in by mistake. They’re all various kinds of dirty, grimy grey. Which is actually really hard to distinguish from the colour of a quoted post.

I also find it hard to believe there was any user testing.

From memory (it was many years ago now), it was an option to choose colours for the OP’s posts and your own posts.

So I did.

Hence fucking enormous red labels pointing out the same things being utterly fucking redundant.

FFS

That option is still there (but only with the new colours & only in light mode). I was just wondering if OP & 'my posts' were always different to other posts, or if a user could essentially hide their own posts by making them the same colour as all the rest. But now, although you can choose to make your posts white which I guess matches the background, the posts are marked out by the button on every one - so this may be a facility which we've all lost.

The post buttons are so annoying, although having retreated to dark mode since the colour debacle, I can't spot my posts or the OP's except by the buttons.

Kreepture · 18/09/2025 23:13

the dark mode on here is trash any way.

The page is dark, but then you scroll down and get flashbanged by the dumb "how do you feel about the labour government" survey which is still arc flash white.

oh.. and the fucking adverts....

Zonder · 18/09/2025 23:19

@LizzyMumsnet I'm finding the lack of contrast of OP posts makes it so hard to tell it is actually another post by the OP.

BerryTwister · 18/09/2025 23:20

The colours are too pale. For years I’ve had OPs’ and my posts in colour, meaning I can easily scroll through and spot my posts and OP posts. Now they look faint - as someone else said, the “coloured” posts look like a white shirt that’s been washed with a single pink sock! Is there no way of increasing the contrast?

lavendermilkshake · 18/09/2025 23:33

Surely the enormous red "My Posts" badges make this a safety concern for anyone in an abusive relationship who is on MN trying to seek support?

NapoleonsToe · 18/09/2025 23:42

NoCommentingFromNowOn · 18/09/2025 15:38

The colours for the OP and me (blue and green) are too wish washy and not distinct. I sometimes want to scroll quickly until I get to the next post by OP and it’s too similar to the white that everyone else is.

This. A million times this

TwelvePercent · 19/09/2025 00:08

.It's a really crap update.

NHS blue.
Washed out highlight colours.
Nobody's happy.

It feels like something my employer would do.

IlovePond · 19/09/2025 00:55

Plus my page keeps shooting back up to the top post when I am in the middle of reading something.

NettleandBramble · 19/09/2025 01:03

The blue looks really clinical and the pink is too bright. The other colours are too pale to be useful.

Pudmyboy · 19/09/2025 01:48

Don't like them, have changed my colours back.

GaudySocks · 19/09/2025 02:16

The only way I can read the site now is by putting my entire iPad into dark mode and turning the brightness right down. I then have to turn it all back again if I go on any other websites.
At one point, the only way I could even activate dark mode was to instead activate classic invert in the iPad accessibility settings. That threw up some wacky colour combinations!
I’m only really coming back on here now to see if they’ve responded to this thread. If it’s going to be too hard to use the site, then clearly I will stop bothering.

PhilMitchellsleatherbomber · 19/09/2025 02:31

And don’t get me started on the permanent video advert in the top right hand corner running constantly with the on purpose tiny skip ad button so when you do try to skip the ad you load it instead, so sneaky. This site is getting more like Tattle every day.

Seeyouincourtyoufool · 19/09/2025 04:27

It is way way too bright - don’t care about the colours but looking at the page of the laptop gives me a headache.

Dizzywizz · 19/09/2025 05:38

Oh I couldn’t find the top watch (now under the op’s post). It was much better when it was at the top (where save is). I thought I watched one yesterday - I assumed save had replaced watch - but now it seems like I haven’t

ifIwerenotanandroid · 18/09/2025 23:01

Nothing. I have premium. It’s the same.

Mummyoflittledragon · 19/09/2025 06:21

PhilMitchellsleatherbomber · 18/09/2025 22:51

@LizzyMumsnet please can you put the time and user names back on deleted and withdrawn posts, it’s important to know if it’s our own posts that have been deleted and also we need to know if we want to interact with posters whose posts break talk guidelines, posters who break talk guidelines shouldn’t be hidden.

I totally agree. Is there a reason for doing this @LizzyMumsnet

Autumnpug7 · 19/09/2025 06:22

Its no better this morning,it's still hurting my eyes ..I'm having to come of sooner than I would usually as it's just uncomfortable

Hobnobswantshernameback · 19/09/2025 06:23

Ahh yes
hiding the report button and removing the posters name from deleted posts
talk about making this place an even bigger trolls paradise
but hey so long as the clicks keep happening and the cash keeps coming.....

GarlicPint · 19/09/2025 06:24

Decided to wait and see if I'd get used to it. I've been here, on and off, for about 12 hours on phone and PC and I really, really don't like the new look! Pleased I could tone down the post backgrounds. Displeased with the in-your-face OP and Mine flashes - partly for privacy with My Posts, as previously mentioned, and partly because they're so bloody bright! And I dislike the royal blue.

Overall, I find the site appearance jarring: colours too bright and too clashing. With all the inevitably lurid advertisement colours as well, it looks like somebody spilled the kids' poster paints. And it's kind of untidy: it doesn't seem to have a coherent colour scheme.

I'm not target audience, though: if users aged 20-30 prefer a visually loud, discordant web design, so be it.

That's what I have ,every now and again it covers the whole page and plays untill I log off ..makes it difficult to use the site

Hercisback1 · 19/09/2025 06:28

Even in dark mode, on my phones lowest brightness, MN is difficult to read. Why is it so bright? Someone somewhere has messed up because it's so bright compared to anything else I open.

ChristmasPuddingAllRound · 19/09/2025 06:31

Still haven't fixed the issue of going back to the top of active each time I leave a thread
