You might notice things are looking a bit different today. We’ve given Mumsnet a colour refresh, based on feedback from you in our surveys (thank you!).

We’ve also moved a couple of things around to reduce clutter and make things easier to find:

  • Watch now sits under the OP post
  • Report has moved into the meatball menu (the three dots on posts)

As ever, we’d love to hear what you think, so please share your feedback below.

Too bright!

AnnoyedAsAllHeck · 18/09/2025 19:58

Honestly, it is hurting my eyes, though I do admit that I got a shot into my eye yesterday, so it's sore. But, I think even after it has healed, it will hurt my eyes.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 18/09/2025 20:01

Another bug in dark mode: click on a thread title in trending & a pale line appears above it. Probably doesn't show up in light mode.

Hi all,

Thanks so much to everyone who’s taken the time to share feedback on the recent updates, we’re working our way through your comments!

A couple of quick updates:

  • If you’d prefer a different look, you can customise colours under Settings > Talk settings. From there, you can choose how your own posts and threads by author are displayed.
  • We’ll also be adding the Watch button back to the bottom of the page shortly.

But not to the colours we had before. The blue everywhere is too bright and the ops post / my post colours are too dull.

LittleGreenDragons · 18/09/2025 20:08

It's too bright - migraine inducing bright.
The green isn't a green as it's so pale and the grey blends into the background.

Please put the colours back to how they were. They worked. Who thought they didn't??

Bettalam · 18/09/2025 20:10

It literally is headache bright. Any chance you might listen to what people are saying?

Kreepture · 18/09/2025 20:10

i'd also love to know who you surveyed, because i was never asked about it.

IwantToRetire · 18/09/2025 20:12

Its terrible.

Who said they wanted everything to be washed out pale colours.

There was nothing wrong with the old colours.

If there really are people who want baby blue and baby pink just add them.

Dont punish the rest of us who didn't ask for this.

Its like when a printer is running out of its colour inks.

Or going back to some 50s polka dot era where women couldn only wear pastel colours.

Huge error.

fruitpastille · 18/09/2025 20:19

I can cope with the brighter blue by turning up the eye comfort shield on my phone. I don't like it though.

I don't mind the pale green/grey etc to highlight posts.

I HATE the magenta 'Original poster' and how the threads read go magenta. I like my mumsnet browsing to be as unnoticeable as possible. How come the mumsnet hq original poster label is a slightly less offensive blue?

IwantToRetire · 18/09/2025 20:25

Has MNHQ bothered to follow the guidelines on web accessibility for people with visual impairments?

But we knew how to do that anyway.
Doesn't change the fact that the colours are awful now.
Why are they wrongly labelled? They are nothing like the colours they are meant to be.

The colour of hideous and the pink that is used for threads we've already read is migraine inducing please can you change ot back

Hobnobswantshernameback · 18/09/2025 20:32

Nobody wanted these changes but I will eat my hat if even a slither of this feedback is listened to.
i imagine it's the advertisers that voted for these changes.
shitty ads everywhere
minging colours
looks cheap nasty and tacky
but hey so longer as the ad cash keeps pouring in

Hobnobswantshernameback · 18/09/2025 20:33

Baby fucking pink and a huge header announcing my posts
ODFOD

LightsDifficulty · 18/09/2025 20:33

I've tried using settings to change colours back but the normal colours are not in the list and they all look bad. Could the old colour scheme be one of the options.

btw I used to be a web designer and I know you probably worked really hard on this. Sorry we all don't like it.

Hercisback1 · 18/09/2025 20:36

Blueberry911 · 18/09/2025 19:40

Do you ever consider accessibility or visual impairments whenever you make an update that no one asked for? Eg, the endless scroll that you had to ask to have turned off instead of being able to turn it off manually.

These colours are not disability friendly and whoever is in charge of these updates is an actual idiot.

Hard agree.

It's like they actively want to exclude people.

Even on minimum brightness, it's a glowing orb.

13goingon31 · 18/09/2025 20:37

GeniuneWorkOfFart · 18/09/2025 17:05

It looks like Tesco Value Mumsnet 😂

It looks like the scan as you shop but worse 😂

pointythings · 18/09/2025 20:37

I've just had a look at my laptop setting to see if I could turn down the brightness that way. Nope - it's already on the least bright it could be, which just goes to show how insanely glaring this colour scheme is.

Cryingatthegym · 18/09/2025 20:38

Awful colours and far too bright. Like headache inducing bright. Not conducive to scrolling MN in bed in the dark!

@LizzyMumsnet

But changing talk settings doesn't tone down the brightness which is the main issue.

It's dreadful. I'll will stop using the site if it doesn't change.

Shr3dding · 18/09/2025 20:43

I dont mind the colour changes and brightness too much but the big blocks of original poster and my post are just stupid and unnecessary. What's the thinking behind those? The options to set colours are perfect, we dont need the childish labels

CriticalCondition · 18/09/2025 20:48

I went away for a bit and came back to see what everyone was saying. But the colours and brightness are so horrible it's making me feel slightly ill and I'm going away again.

Well done, MN. 🙄

I doubt it. It's more likely to be people who need to keep getting their constultancy fees/agency fees/inhouse income who have decided to change things, or they won't keep getting paid.

ScrambledSmegs · 18/09/2025 20:57

Well this is a migraine-inducing new look. Can't say I'm a fan, the colours are simultaneously far too bright and wishy-washy.

Are you sure you those posters you polled weren't on the wind-up, @LizzyMumsnet?
