You might notice things are looking a bit different today. We’ve given Mumsnet a colour refresh, based on feedback from you in our surveys (thank you!).

We’ve also moved a couple of things around to reduce clutter and make things easier to find:

  • Watch now sits under the OP post
  • Report has moved into the meatball menu (the three dots on posts)

As ever, we’d love to hear what you think, so please share your feedback below.

Much too bright, will trigger my migraines and the pink for own posts is horrible.

agoodfriendofthethree · 18/09/2025 18:09

Like many other posters, it will definitely trigger my migraines which is so sad as I love relaxing by reading Mumsnet! I can feel it already after just a few minutes...

pointythings · 18/09/2025 18:09

I have no words for how much I hate the changes. It looks 90s Netscape. And I've already lived through that once.

Luxio · 18/09/2025 18:10

SepticPegsSepticLeg · 18/09/2025 18:06

I like it.

Can I ask honestly what it is that you like about it compared to how the site was this afternoon? I honestly can't see any positive reason for the change and lots of negatives.

RNApolymerase · 18/09/2025 18:11

On my phone and when scrolling through this thread the blue bar at the bottom is way too bright and intrusive so I've covered it with my shirt.

Good point made above that some posters might not want Your Post to be obvious (eg those using mumsnet to help them escape an abusive relationship).

IKR? So weirdly old fashioned.

Some people really cant handle change

Correct.
Some of us have neurological conditions that mean we genuinely cannot handle changes such as this without suffering headaches and seizures.

Gatekeeper · 18/09/2025 18:11

It somehow manages to be glarey but at the same time look like a magazine left in the newsagents window for 5 years

RuttleTuttle · 18/09/2025 18:12

I have a question

Why does the stupid new badge above my post say "My posts", but isn't linkable to my posts?

Edited

Bright, colourful, something different to shake it up a bit after being the same for the last 13 years I've been on here.

Love the bubble labels on OP and My posts

I just like it 🤷🏼‍♀️

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 18/09/2025 18:13

It's probably been stated many, many times but I hate the pastel colours. I've changed the default baby blue and baby pink but they are so wishy washy. I also don't see the need for my own posts to have a big label marking them as such.

oncemoreuntothebeachdearfriends · 18/09/2025 18:13

Much harder to read now for anyone with less than perfect eyesight.

BestIsWest · 18/09/2025 18:15

Hate the labels too.

GreyPearlSatin · 18/09/2025 18:15

Yeah, way too bright and it looks like 90s Angelfire design. I can understand that an 8 year old might pick such bright colors, but an adult?

Manzana · 18/09/2025 18:15

have to agree that Light Mode is way too blindingly bright, I prefer Dark Mode, but now see one cannot set colours for OP or myself in Dark Mode, why the change?

^^This. That pink is literally nauseating 🤢 It’s vile. There was nothing wrong with the colours they were before. These new colours are too bright, and that disgusting peachy pink is awful.

Lalaloope · 18/09/2025 18:16

Nice shade of blue but agree it's a bit too bright. Would look nicer if toned down a bit.

I've changed the new OP's colour from blue back to green (the blue is the same as mnhq posts. That wouldn't have worked because I prefer the colours to stay the way they were)

The OP's new green colour is so light, it may as well be white. It's lost in the background but I guess the label showing that it's the OP makes it manageable. However, if you can put the colours back to bolder colours, that would be great.

The former pink colour for my posts was much better than this very light almost invisible weird shade of magenta.

Iamintheshed · 18/09/2025 18:17

I like the blue shade. Maybe the contrast could be toned down a bit.
My peeve is the top banner varies in depth with the individual ad.
I am about to click on a subject in Trending

The ad changes the page layout moves up or down and I click on the adjacent subject. Oh! bother! I mutter!

IlovePond · 18/09/2025 18:17

I suggest that everyone who hates these changes tags the OP @LizzyMumsnet in their replies. There has been no comment from MNHQ for hours and it’s unacceptable for them to dump and run. By tagging the OP at least, presumably, she will receive the notifications.

BTW: Who were these people surveyed? This select group clearly didn’t include migraine sufferers or older people or anyone else who struggles reading texts/screens.

On the plus side: I won’t be able to use MN much/at all in the future if these colours/brightness issues remain, so that will definitely reduce my screen time!

Hi all,

Thanks so much to everyone who’s taken the time to share feedback on the recent updates, we’re working our way through your comments!

A couple of quick updates:

  • If you’d prefer a different look, you can customise colours under Settings > Talk settings. From there, you can choose how your own posts and threads by author are displayed.
  • We’ll also be adding the Watch button back to the bottom of the page shortly.

I've tried customising my colours, but there are no decent colours to choose from. If you put the old colours in the settings menus, we could choose them. And you could give us the option to switch off the burgundy buttons.

Contrary to what a PP said, I don't believe this was 'a sizeable coding project'. I've worked on GUIs (many years ago) where I've changed on-screen colours as part of the development process & it couldn't be easier. It's a 5-minute job.

If you thought the new colours were so great & a boon to users, why not add them to the Settings menu & announce them as an exciting new option for users - while leaving the 'classic view' for, apparently, the majority of your users?

As you've listened & moved the 'Watch' button, I really hope you'll listen & at least give us the option of going back to the old colours.

Luxio · 18/09/2025 18:19

I asked earlier as I genuinely don't recall seeing any survey and I can't see that anyone has said they responded to a survey on this post or the other long post running about this change. Can anyone actually confirm they took part in the survey about this change?

I have less than perfect vision and the excessive brightness and sludgy pale post colours really don't help. Are we meant to self-exclude?

Agree with this suggestion. I like much stronger colours.

Rituelec · 18/09/2025 18:21

The blue is awful

Imbrocator · 18/09/2025 18:23

I don’t like it. Too bright, pastel, and generally unpleasant colours. I preferred the old colours.
