You might notice things are looking a bit different today. We’ve given Mumsnet a colour refresh, based on feedback from you in our surveys (thank you!).

We’ve also moved a couple of things around to reduce clutter and make things easier to find:

  • Watch now sits under the OP post
  • Report has moved into the meatball menu (the three dots on posts)

As ever, we’d love to hear what you think, so please share your feedback below.

It’s too bright!!

The colours are awful & cheap looking.

When I return from a thread to the main page it does not snap back to where I was - I have to scroll down again.

I really dislike it all!!

YouCouldFallOutWithYourselfInAnEmptyRoom · 18/09/2025 17:54

Is there any need for a big red “your posts”
Who doesn’t know what they’ve written? Hmm It’s in pink anyway?

I would rather someone had spent the time sorting out the awful glitches, the constant freezing and crashing, that plague this site rather than spend the time and money changing the colours!

GailBlancheViola · 18/09/2025 17:02

Nay sayers who are going to experience migraine from it you mean?

There has clealry been no consideration or indeed research done for those with sight issues either.

Sorry to hear that. Have you tried changing the colours in your account settings (under "Talk settings"), and/or adjusting screen brightness etc on your display?

relyonnoone · 18/09/2025 17:55

It's dreadful. I'm an 'oldie' with the start of cataracts anf the garish colours and overall level of 'brightness' makes it uncomfortable to read. Dark mode is even worse. Why the need to change something that didn't need changing?
Sigh

butterpuffed · 18/09/2025 17:56

The colours on my Chrome laptop are the same as always . They are a bit brighter on my mobile now though.

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 18/09/2025 17:56

It's way too bright. I have low light filters on my phone because I have a photosensitive neurological condition and it is way too bright. Uncomfortably so, as others have said.

I don't mind change. But the stupid huge "THIS IS YOUR POST!!!!" button seems extraneous, when my post is already in a different colour. Same with OP's posts.

Yamyamabroad · 18/09/2025 17:57

Not keen, im having to peer at it to see it now. Blue on blue - why?

JaneJeffer · 18/09/2025 17:57

I don’t get why MN randomly changes things for no reason but don’t address problems that users bring up

If I change screen brightness it changes it for every website.

it also doesn’t make any difference changing the colours in my account settings I’ve done that

purpleme12 · 18/09/2025 17:58

I like the colour

I have just been trying to change the brightness on my settings. Then I saw this thread. The colour change is awful.

Waynettaaa · 18/09/2025 17:59

Personally, I prefer bright as I'm visually impaired, though the OP on this thread seems duller 🤔

Also, the quote buttons etc blend in, so not as easy to see.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 18/09/2025 18:00

EverardDeTroyes · 18/09/2025 15:47

I preferred the colours I originally chose for OP's posts and my own, when the colour choice was first introduced, but I expect I will get used to these new colours. I'm assuming there is no longer the option to choose ones own colours?

There is, but it doesn't help - the real colours have been removed & the new choice is inadequate.

Mumwithbaggage · 18/09/2025 18:02

I don't think it's as nice - doesn't look as professional in the brighter blue, just a bit cheap and home made. You did ask for feedback...

Beachtastic · 18/09/2025 17:55

That makes no difference as other posters have pointed out. It is the main colours on the display that are the problem.

Tone down the brightness on my computer screen every time I access MN or switch between MN and other windows I have open you mean? MN was never this glaringly bright before, why does it need to be now?

Shinysunday · 18/09/2025 18:02

I've had a lot of trouble today on my desktop browser (Safari) using the site at all. Just got a gigantic pink advert for the anniversary and no visible menus. In the end I got in by searching for 'AIBU' and a tiny hyperlink came up which when clicked on, took me to a normal screen.
The colours are fine on my monitor.

Mumwithbaggage · 18/09/2025 18:03

Oh, and that pink is horrid, especially with the red! Please change it back!!

Apprenante · 18/09/2025 18:03

How about fixing the issue of always going back to the top of the thread!?

DoraSpenlow · 18/09/2025 18:04

Thank you for the tip. I have asked to be removed. It has only been happening recently, certainly not since April.

Some people really cant handle change

I work with change for a living. A key way you can help people through change is working out in advance what the problems will be and how you will mitigate them. For tech change this usually involves UAT, feedback, iteration etc. Accessibility testing should be a basic part of that.

It's also helpful to explain the rationale for change, which MN aren't really doing - there's no explanation for why there are now weird big labels on the OP and your own posts, and it would be great if MN could address the concerns around personal safety.

SepticPegsSepticLeg · 18/09/2025 18:06

I like it.

kittensinthekitchen · 18/09/2025 18:07

I have dark mode set and have now been informed that I can't have the OPs and my own posts highlighted in a different colour. Why have you removed that feature?
