You might notice things are looking a bit different today. We’ve given Mumsnet a colour refresh, based on feedback from you in our surveys (thank you!).

We’ve also moved a couple of things around to reduce clutter and make things easier to find:

  • Watch now sits under the OP post
  • Report has moved into the meatball menu (the three dots on posts)

As ever, we’d love to hear what you think, so please share your feedback below.

Switching from MN to unmentionable other fora is now like leaving a loud bright sugared toddler space and stepping into a spacious haven of tranquility for adult discourse :D

A light blue rather than light green has kicked off your migraine? Do you think it could just be your screen use?

No. It never did it before. It’s a bright blue and a glare off the white that wasn’t there before.

im not the only poster to have noticed.

I do have the beginnings of a cataract and very bad astigmatism as well as migraines.

why are you making out like I’m lying? Mumsnet literally asked for views and I’m giving mine.

and the banner my post is just so dangerous it makes me very uneasy.

Viviennemary · 18/09/2025 17:20

It was fine the way it was. Don't like the changes. They're not an improvement.

Tell us you know nothing about migraine and care even less

murasaki · 18/09/2025 17:21

The active threads menu is very bright with a horrible clashing blue and pink.

Dweetfidilove · 18/09/2025 17:21

I'll have the old colours back. I won't be able to spend as much time here as it's blinding.

Swandry · 18/09/2025 17:21

my post

AuldWeegie · 18/09/2025 17:22

Can’t customise the settings in dark mode.

Why not fix the Aa function which enlarges the font but doesn’t change the number of words in each line? The words at either end of the line fall off the edge.

IsadoraQuagmire · 18/09/2025 17:23

It's so GARISH!

Madformaltesers · 18/09/2025 17:24

Its too bright and painful to read

Guineapigdrama · 18/09/2025 17:24

PencilsInSpace · 18/09/2025 17:15

I'm not getting any background colours to the posts, just the fake buttons on OP's posts and my posts.

Firefox, Windows 11, desktop.

Same on my phone on the web

PencilsInSpace · 18/09/2025 17:24

That blue is like the Windows blue screen of death. Was that the inspiration?

Makingpeace · 18/09/2025 17:24

Way to bright. It's giving me a migraine @LizzyMumsnet

theilltemperedmaggotintheheartofthelaw · 18/09/2025 17:25

The colour saturation is too low and likely to confuse the colourblind.

Furball · 18/09/2025 17:25

Do you remember in the old days when there were changes and you could have the option of 'original mumsnet' - can we have that option back please - In active convos the contrast of the BRIGHTISH blue and white contrast is awful on the eyes. Navy blue would be preferable I think

GailBlancheViola · 18/09/2025 17:25

Boiledbeetle · 18/09/2025 17:08

I've only read this thread and I'm already getting blurred vision and it's going to end in a migraine.

What the hell where MNHQ thinking?

I don't know there seems to have been little to no consideration for users who have conditions that would be affected by this.

pigsDOfly · 18/09/2025 17:26

The colours are dreadful. I changed my posts to green and it came out a horrible insipid beige.

Why do this? It's awful.

Lunde · 18/09/2025 17:26

So MN has actually managed to downgrade the experience - I have never had a message board actually make me nauseous 🤢 in 25+ years

  • the blue banners and buttons are far too bright and giving me double vision - most message boards use bright but slightly muted tones (teal, burgundy, etc) to avoid this issue. It is really garish, gives headaches and makes it difficult to see
  • the white message background is far too white and bright - most websites use a slightly off white or paper white to avoid this issue
  • on the the other hand the new OP/personal message colours are so muted as to be almost invisible on my laptop (Microsoft) - it is very 1980s and the paint trend of Barley white/Apple white/ Bluebell white with "white with a hint of colour". It makes it hard to pick out the highlighted posts
  • have you made the font size thinner? I am struggling to read but cannot decide if it is the font itself or the effect of the brilliant white background

The old site was definitely better and more accessible

Hi all,

Thanks so much to everyone who’s taken the time to share feedback on the recent updates, we’re working our way through your comments!

A couple of quick updates:

  • If you’d prefer a different look, you can customise colours under Settings > Talk settings. From there, you can choose how your own posts and threads by author are displayed.
  • We’ll also be adding the Watch button back to the bottom of the page shortly.

Nope, no colours available to dark mode users. Can this be fixed?

A few updates to Mumsnet 🎨
SirChenjins · 18/09/2025 17:27

Blue on blue in the list of active convos is awful - surely this doesn't meet accessibility standards??

Mumsnet - why do you keep fiddling with stuff? My screen is mostly space, with talk on less than a third of it and bloody big adverts everywhere (from companies I make a mental note not to buy from).

Account734 · 18/09/2025 17:27

Very pleased not to have the awful and distracting full screen adverts flashing continuously but I hate the colour. It feels like blue screen light and makes me feel I need sunglasses. Also looks like the kind of screen they suggest you don't watch at night because the blue light adversely impacts sleep.

NeedyTiger · 18/09/2025 17:28

I wondered what the hell happened 😆 I like the idea of the watch button being under the op at the top I was sick of fast scrolling to the bottom to click it , not sure of the bright colour though but overall I like it 😉

anyolddinosaur · 18/09/2025 17:28

Far too bright and the pink for your own posts is hideous.

pls put the report button back where it is instantly visible. It is bonkers to hide it like that.
Also, what is the point of "your post" or whatever it says, if it isn't a clickable link to show all mine? no need for any of it, it is now much less intuitive than before. Well done.

Woompund · 18/09/2025 17:30

The colours are bloody awful, either too bright or too insipid. Can we have classic back as an option please?
