You might notice things are looking a bit different today. We’ve given Mumsnet a colour refresh, based on feedback from you in our surveys (thank you!).

We’ve also moved a couple of things around to reduce clutter and make things easier to find:

  • Watch now sits under the OP post
  • Report has moved into the meatball menu (the three dots on posts)

As ever, we’d love to hear what you think, so please share your feedback below.

What accessibility testing did you do, @LizzyMumsnet? And what was the user feedback? I have no visual impairment but am struggling to look at the screen for any length of time.

Probably none if anything like the last update.

I can't really tolerate the new interface unless it's changed back. It's really bad for some migrainous folk - I'm sure some will cope, but I really can't.

I am finding this too, I am starting to squint at it as if I am looking at the sun. As a migraine sufferer I suspect it won't be long before one starts.

I've only read this thread and I'm already getting blurred vision and it's going to end in a migraine.

What the hell where MNHQ thinking?

GiantMoa · 18/09/2025 17:08

It's a little bit better if you change the settings but that only helps with the post highlighting, everything else is far too bright and migraine inducing.

21ZIGGY · 18/09/2025 17:12

Some people really cant handle change

Swandry · 18/09/2025 17:13

Yeah sorry mnhq but I’m gone for the day. I’ve got aura starting of a migraine and moving letters. This is not good for anyone with any kind of visual induced migraine.

RigIt · 18/09/2025 17:14

It’s a bit bright but PLEASE do we really need the bold, clunky “Original Poster”. It’s really distracting and unnecessary. We already know who the OP is as their posts are highlighted a different colour. It’s super clear already. If you really really want to add to that a subtle “OP” after the username would fo the job without it being distracting. But it’s really not necessary.

Some people really cant handle change

  1. I get migraines. I can’t handle certain types of lighting. And this has kicked my migraine off.
  1. If anyone is in a domestic violence or coercive control situation the highlighting of their posts so hugely is a very bad idea. It’s putting people at risk.
ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 18/09/2025 17:14

It's unnecessarily bright.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 18/09/2025 17:15

And peachy.

BruceAndNosh · 18/09/2025 17:15

Are you being sponsored by IKEA? It's very very blue.

Nocookiesforme · 18/09/2025 17:15

@LizzyMumsnet
The first thing I did was to go to settings and change the colours (I'm not stupid you know) and ALL the colours are insipid pastels. I've tried all of them and their all INSIPID and I can't see them properly.
Please just admit that the majority don't like it and change the colours back to how they were - I can not see things properly and that seems disablist. Please?

PencilsInSpace · 18/09/2025 17:15

I'm not getting any background colours to the posts, just the fake buttons on OP's posts and my posts.

Firefox, Windows 11, desktop.

Did this survey actually include examples (on screen ones).or was it a focus group with paper samples, or a general 'Should we freshen up the colours' with no details?

And I'm also out because I'm getting headache.

Ummm the “My posts” is even worse! Not only distracting but also fugly and grammatically incorrect if you’ve only posted once!

It is not just the colours though. Posts that have been withdrawn or deleted no longer have the poster’s name on my phone view. So you don’t know if it is you deleted or someone else.

@LizzyMumsnet please put the usernames and time back on the posts that the team has deleted whether it is deleted or withdrawn. Thanks.

Seeline · 18/09/2025 17:17

I really don't like having the 'my post' label on all my posts. I know they are my posts, I don't need everyone else who might be looking over my shoulder knowing they are my posts!

I just can't see the point of this feature. It could be really harmful for some people. The username allows us to post anonymously. Having the fact that you've posted highlighted with a big bright label isn't ideal.

A light blue rather than light green has kicked off your migraine? Do you think it could just be your screen use?

GimmieABreakOr3 · 18/09/2025 17:18

I quite like it!

Flatbellyfella · 18/09/2025 17:18

It was better before.

Melonmango70 · 18/09/2025 17:19

The pale blue background is much nicer, not so sure about the salmon pink boxes though. But on the whole - and improvement!

sixeightfive · 18/09/2025 17:19

It does feel quite bright. I am on the website not the app.

I went into my settings and the colours for highlighting posts are very washed out. Can we possibly have old and new ones? I used to have green and magenta (OP and my posts) but the new colours are so hard to see.

Ooooh I have just seen my new "salmon" pink colour on my post. Hmm, I did prefer the magenta.

Tell a lie - if I put my head flat on my desk and peer up at the screen from very close I can just about see a vague, slight tint. The colours are there but much too pale.

Guineapigdrama · 18/09/2025 17:19

What colour is everyone talking about? My colour hasn't changed?
