You might notice things are looking a bit different today. We’ve given Mumsnet a colour refresh, based on feedback from you in our surveys (thank you!).

We’ve also moved a couple of things around to reduce clutter and make things easier to find:

  • Watch now sits under the OP post
  • Report has moved into the meatball menu (the three dots on posts)

As ever, we’d love to hear what you think, so please share your feedback below.

Hi all,

Thanks so much to everyone who’s taken the time to share feedback on the recent updates, we’re working our way through your comments!

A couple of quick updates:

  • If you’d prefer a different look, you can customise colours under Settings > Talk settings. From there, you can choose how your own posts and threads by author are displayed.
  • We’ll also be adding the Watch button back to the bottom of the page shortly.

The customise colours menu gives the choice of a vile tinned salmon pink, and several shades of mildly sludgy off-white that are indistinguishable from the background. Not a solution.

GeniuneWorkOfFart · 18/09/2025 16:56

What survey was this anyway? I wasn't surveyed. And I'm on here a lot...

Blue is far to bright against a stark background - giving me headaches and double vision

Not accessible to those of us with vision issues

Mine went to pale blue when I changed the colour to grey. Still don’t like the My and Original poster boxes.

CameForAVacationStayedForTheRevolution · 18/09/2025 16:57

Looks no different to me, sounds like i should be thankful.

Beachtastic · 18/09/2025 16:57

Well, I really like it!!!

The nay-sayers just need to reframe it as Farrow & Ball "Borrowed Light" and "Pink Ground" ... and rejoice that the colours have an extraordinary response to screen settings 😁

Ficklebricks · 18/09/2025 16:57

Another vote against the new colour scheme. My eyes are burning 🕶

NotAtMyAge · 18/09/2025 16:30

Was any consideration given to users with less than perfect vision, @LizzyMumsnet ? I'm in my 70s, very shortsighted, and on an eternal waiting list to have the severe cataract in my left eye dealt with. The new brightness level is too high for comfortable reading and the change from clear vivid post highlighting colours to the new baby pastel ones is unhelpful and visually very unattractive. As for the unnecessary and obtrusive Original poster and My posts buttons, words almost fail me... That's what the post background colours are for!

You have my sincere sympathy, I'm post successful surgery in my 50s but would not have coped at all with this pre ops. I've got related problems and you are making a very fair point about the effect on people with sight issues. The glare is really bad.

IrisPallida · 18/09/2025 16:58

It was OK for a few minutes but now my eyes are getting really sore.

Come on, @MNHQ - do I have to adjust my whole computer in order to not experience pain on your site??

pigsDOfly · 18/09/2025 16:58

Quite like the blue. But my posts were on a lovely lilac colour before, now it's turned into an awful dull pink; definitely going to have to change that I hate the colour pink.

Tell a lie, my post is now pink not green. Everything else is the same though.

PuppyMonkey · 18/09/2025 16:58

It feels a bit like when you try and look at your phone and the bright sun is shining through the window, so you can’t see your phone properly until you tilt it out of the light. Which is what I was doing until I spotted this thread and realised it wasn’t the bright sun but the new look. So if that’s what you were going for, well done. Grin

What was wrong with the old look, did the people in the survey explain?

EtonMessy · 18/09/2025 16:59

@LizzyMumsnet did MNHQ do the survey on toddlers ?! The blue is far too bright, the talk settings colour options are 50 shades of dulex off white . Absolutely no consideration for those with visual impairments and I want the suffragette colours back !! All in all you’ve royally fucked up with these changes !!

Yes it's very very bright isn't it? Along with the ghastly colours it's almost unreadable for my middle aged eyes.

Nocookiesforme · 18/09/2025 17:00

Colours are too insipid - it's all pastel colours.
I don't like it and have an eye condition meaning it's difficult for me to see the OP threads properly now. I liked the bold darker shades as it was easier for me to see. Who did this survey - People who don't like the darker crayons and 5 year olds?
Also why are the 'promotional' threads now bigger and with photos? Are we not giving your sponsors/advertisers enough views so you've made it bigger so that our eyes are drawn against our will?

Ficklebricks · 18/09/2025 17:00

@LizzyMumsnet the customise colours option isn't available on Android! Did you guys just not consider mobile users or....?

Swandry · 18/09/2025 17:01

It is actually the glare that is awful.

That and the “my post” in huge big letters that means anyone with sight lines of the device can tell what the person is posting about. And that really concerns me.

NoahDia · 18/09/2025 17:01

DrBlackbird · 18/09/2025 16:57

I've tried blue, grey and green for original poster and they all look like the same colour!

Nay sayers who are going to experience migraine from it you mean?

There has clealry been no consideration or indeed research done for those with sight issues either.

HansHolbein · 18/09/2025 17:03

It looks dreadful like this. Why the fuck would you do that.

A few updates to Mumsnet 🎨
SplendidUtterly · 18/09/2025 17:03

It'll take a bit of getting used to, but overall I like it.

13goingon31 · 18/09/2025 17:03

The bottom bar is wayyyy too bright 🫣

UncorrectedPersonalityTraits · 18/09/2025 17:04

Too bright and too much glare. Looks budget not classic like it did before.

BoarBrush · 18/09/2025 17:05

Not only is the colour absolutely horrendously painful on the eyes, there's also that stupid fucking Sophie Ellis bextor video flashing away in the top corner.

Monumental cock up as usual.

The colours are all rubbish though. The only ones you can see properly that stand out are the blue and magenta, but they’re too bright even with brightness turned down. I don’t usually moan about changes as I think people just need time to get used to them, but these colours are terrible!
