Remove Fife Threads from Trending?

Shitmonger · 19/07/2025 01:11

Could MN consider removing the numerous “Nurse Fife” threads from the Trending section? There are several new ones a day, thousands of posts, most of them pretty inane (“Can’t wait.” “I’m still on thread 29.” “Signing on” etc etc.) Because they are so active the entire Trending section will fill up with them (Nurse Fife #24, Nurse Fife #25, Nurse Fife #26, and so on). You have to manually hide every single one and then there’s another new one in a few hours.

Can they just be removed from the Trending section? I’m sure the people interested know where to find them by now.

OP posts:

I've never had more than one Fife thread in my trending section so I don't understand your issue at all. If you don't want to see them though I'm amazed that you know what they all contain.

Tripole · 19/07/2025 08:49

Have you actually read the threads? Very few inane posts on there.

"Certain posters are boosting it constantly"

You mean people are chatting 🙄

Face it, #nodebate is over. Women are winning and will continue to win. You've tried to stop people talking and it hasn't worked.

borntobequiet · 19/07/2025 08:53

It’s big, big, news, particularly for women.

Hiding a thread if you don’t like is neither onerous nor difficult. OTOH, getting suspended from work after a thirty year unblemished career for something you didn’t do is devastating.

DrSpartacularsMagnificentOctopus · 19/07/2025 09:18

How dare women talk about something that affects them Hmm

FGS OP, just hide the threads if they bother you that much.

The only reason many don't want it trending is because it's Fife being discussed. Most folk probably have never even heard of it let alone the topic being discussed about that health board!

So women in Fife don’t matter and there’s some kind of discrimination you would like to put in place because you and some other people have never heard of Fife?
I don’t really understand what on Earth you are saying here.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 19/07/2025 10:48

How's this thread going for you OP? 😂😂

I did wonder, so I checked - answer is no. Though it would be fun if it was.

RedToothBrush · 19/07/2025 10:59

It's a really important issue on many levels.

It is NOT 'just another trans story' as some people seem to want to pretend.

It's a story about failure of management and huge institutional incompetence within the NHS at this point.

That's massive.

People trying to frame it as niche really needs to wake up and get their head out the arses.

It's about a failure of public accountability.

The NHS is the seventh largest employer in the world. Largest in Europe.

Holy moly! You'd think they'd be better at HR.

Certain posters are boosting it constantly that's why. I am sure many are getting weary of the story though. I don't know anyone IRL discussing it, for example.

You should get out more.

On a talk board! Imagine.

Oh dear OP. Can't believe you were serious with your request. What is the point of a Trending section if the most popular threads are not included?

Notfinanciallyresponsibleforyou · 19/07/2025 11:11

The Sandi Peggie threads have been really enlightening to see what is actually happening in a public sector organisation. There has to be accountability to how public sector funds are being used. There has actions of NHS Fife have shown a level of incompetence that I didn’t believe existed.

These threads have also shown the issues that have been created by gender ideology to the extent that I know have a greater awareness of what women are facing.

The more women are informed of the challenges we may face in the workplace, in politics, in unions, the media etc who the better. Therefore having these threads in trending can only be for the good. Why should MN make it all secretive?

Notfinanciallyresponsibleforyou · 19/07/2025 11:16

do you work for NHS Fife @Shitmonger

You want MN to censor trending threads?

Scout2016 · 19/07/2025 11:22

Mumsnet already split the feminism section because some posters couldn't bear to see that other people were having discussions they didn't like or weren't interested.

Now one discussions has generated so much interest that it's trending and you want Mumsnet to hide it?

You have deiced it's too much effort for you to hide them manually, so you want to make it so that no one who isn't already following the threads will be aware of them?

And to be clear, this isn't a "is this dress blue or silver" or "what did people think about the end of RATW". These are threads about a woman's mistreatment by the NHS, and her union, her punishment for requesting privacy from men when changing, and to not have a man changing near her, and how the entire shitshow came to be. This is an incredibly significant case. That's reflected in the voljme of activity. And you want no one who doesn't already search out threads on it to see them. Because you cba to use the hide function.

No OP, that's far from an OK suggestion.

"I want my social media sanitised of anything that is actually important in the real world, wah wah"

Meh. Go back to Facebook then.

MeringueOutang · 19/07/2025 11:29

I am following the case but not massively following the case's commentary on MN (I dip in and out occasionally but it is quite long-running) but I don't understand why you'd want to police what other people see and respond to on a site with millions of users. Yes sometimes there's a thread on trending or active that you don't want to see, and sometimes it snowballs into several threads. You just tune that one out and click on a different one.
People obviously want to talk about this a lot. Just like when there were 3 or 4 threads in trending a couple of years ago about a poster who had a parking issue in the National Forest (the carvery threads). Or when a poster had 2 or 3 threads in trending from being stuck on holiday with a girl she didn't like. Or last weekend we had 2 Live Aid at 40 threads trending for a while and a bunch of offshoot conversations on other threads.
Sometimes things just go big. I don't see why this one is any different.

Not in trending yet. But 40 something in active conversations 😀

Is Mumsnet one of the few places left where your feed is not curated/personalised for you?

well…the app has a ‘For you’ tab but mine seems to consist mainly of threads I wouldn’t ever want to open.

’curated feeds’ are such a bad idea.
