Thread Deleted ( Parts 1,2,3, and 4)

I saw that thread 4 was deleted with the message
about breaking Mumsnet guidelines.
The 3 previous threads were deleted too.

Which guidelines were broken?

OP posts:

It sounds like the poster themself broke talk guidelines, as in they were possibly a PBP.

What’s a PBP? I was so invested in this and really hope the Op has the courage to leave him. Her last post sounded like she wasn’t going to and needed solid evidence, but there was so much evidence!

Afternoon, everyone.

Thanks for raising this. We try and give the benefit of the doubt as far as we possibly can with threads but in this case, we noticed that the stories just didn't add up and we don't want anyone to invest more energy into the threads than they already have, so we made the decision to delete them.

So why not state that in the deletion message?

The stories might not have added up because we are continually advised to change little details to prevent real world outing etc, so surely that doesn't mean the posters are breaking the guidelines by doing this.

Tbh, that particular deletion message shouldn't exist unless it states which particular guideline it breaks.

Feeling utter idiot for being taken in. Teach me to do something more productive with my time

Ditto!

That poster needs to look into writing for a living, their imagination knew no bounds.

I was still only reading through part 1!
Am I allowed to ask what happened?
Even if it was bs?
I got as far as him potentially staying out all night at a strip club.

Massage parlour was also involved. OP moved in with her parents temporarily. In the meantime, the H's mother texted to say that he'd had to see the doc about MH issues.

PBP
Previously Banned Poster

Oh...I feel like such a fool.

wknobur · 05/03/2025 12:50

It was absolute nonsense and that was clear from the outset. I have no idea why the first thread was allowed to stand, never mind 4 threads. I reported it and I imagine many others did too. People were troll hunting on the thread too but their posts were deleted.

The reason I thought it was nonsense was that around the time it was posted there were a couple of other threads about oversharing about sex life or saying inappropriate things to people's friends on a night out and those ended up getting pulled for not being a genuine poster. Troll threads like this tend to appear in clusters along a similar theme. People see that a particular topic gets hits and then make up their own bollocks along similar lines to get people frothing.

LennysRucksack · 05/03/2025 12:52

I only glanced at the very first post, eye-rolled and closed it as I personally felt OP was overreacting - granted I didn't read that closely, before anyone comes at me.

Saw things had escalated to 4 threads and thought...must be all bullshit. Wish I'd had a chance to read it all now, sounds like it was enthralling. A footballer, aye?

JohnKettleyIsAWeathermanAndSoIsMichaelFish · 05/03/2025 11:57

I thought it was fiction from the start. The way it was written and kept escalating, fast moving over a number of threads - it's usually a sign.

True I was accused of lacking empathy for pointing this out.

I mentioned she'd had all the advice she could possibly need, but she kept on and on. Seemed to relish threads filling up and having to start a new one with so many followers.

"A woman is hurting, show some empathy"
That was me told!

WearyAuldWumman · 05/03/2025 12:47

Oh...I feel like such a fool.

Don't. The fools are the ones posting amateur creative writing exercises for shits and giggles.

I'll still respond if I think the thread is generating an interesting discussion despite its OP being a figment of someone's lively imagination.

Real 'trolling' is something I understand to be far more sinister than just making up silly stories. It seems on MN its meaning has become diluted somehow. But trolling, in the real, old-fashioned sense of that word is corroding this site far more than the fantasists, IMO.

Port1aCastis · 05/03/2025 12:54

Oliver's army years ago was all BS and so were the sad widow threads, but people fell for them. As for the threads in question today I read the first one thought what bollocks and didn't bother reading anymore.
Maybe the poster who wrote the threads is a) a wannabe author or b) just an attention seeker either way id say find something better to do love

reallypromising · 05/03/2025 12:56

Actually the first one said this ...

I don't know about the oliver's army thread but sad widow was one that I knew from another chatboard, way back and she was a genuine (but overreaching) person who had this absolute determination to put herself in the saviour role.

I wish she would have been a troll but she wasn't.

Yes, DH was the star player in his Sunday league. He bragged to his football friends about having anal sex with OP, sexually harassed a younger teammate’s sister so badly that he was banned from the pub where she worked, had a secret stash of Viagra, frequented strip clubs (and often went missing from the group on boys’ nights out), and went to massage parlours that only accept cryptocurrency. OP’s MIL backed her boy and told OP to look the other way. Am I missing anything?

Bingbopboomboomboombopbam · 05/03/2025 12:59

To be fair whether it was true or not there wasn’t much more to add.

The OP was going in circles not actually addressing anything. If it’s true, she’ll just stay because she didn’t get a full on explicit movie so therefore she had no proof.

Lord help us.

I always thought I was a pretty clued-up sort of middle-aged idiot. I'm clearly the exact opposite. I read all 4 threads and at no point did it occur to me that it wasn't genuine.

At the risk of emphasising my duff-ness, can anyone tell me why someone would put so much time, effort and mental energy into running a post about an entirely fake scenario? I mean, I just can't even begin to fathom out what someone would achieve by doing this?

I'm fairly new to MN in the grand scheme of things. I think I'm going back to Chat and Take a Break magazines!

It could be anything from mental illness to loneliness 🤷‍♂️

It's been happening ever since chat forums were invented.

HolySchmokes · 05/03/2025 12:00

Yes - always interesting how it gets worse and worse. I read the OP of thread 2 and saw how much it had moved on from thread 1 and instantly closed it.

Agreed...Fast moving can well mean fiction- Especially sex based topics.

DoYouReally · 05/03/2025 13:01

The first two threads seemed possible but unlikely.

By thrle third one onward, it was very obvious that it was complete rubbish.

I got a post deleted for saying "no one can be this stupid".

It's a very sad reflection on someone's life if fake threads if how they get their thrills.

LBFseBrom · 05/03/2025 13:07

I didn't think it was a genuine thread so am not surprised and don't care that it's gone.

Salad666 · 05/03/2025 13:08

Honestly the more I read the more it sounded like a plot in Footballer's wives 😂

KellyMumsnet · 05/03/2025 13:09

Just another quick update to say we've updated the deletion messages on those threads now to give a bit more information. Apologies that that was overlooked when they were originally deleted.

BeansOnToast41 · 05/03/2025 13:09

After all the talk of Thai massage parlours and happy endings, the fact the OP’s final post said she just wanted a “fairytale ending like in the movies” felt like the point where they just couldn’t keep a straight face anymore

Alwaysinamood · 05/03/2025 13:10

Argh disappointed in myself for getting so caught up in this!! I honestly thought it was real and she was genuinely naive
