Thread Deleted ( Parts 1,2,3, and 4)

AnneKipankitoo · 05/03/2025 11:18

I saw that thread 4 was deleted with the message
about breaking Mumsnet guidelines.
The 3 previous threads were deleted too.

Which guidelines were broken?

From ten years ago! Wow you have a great memory 😊

lol I actually googled what PBP was on mumsnet and this came straight up - weirdly similar story! 👀

SuperTrooper14 · 05/03/2025 13:40

That's the point though – the OP never let the threads fill up. Threads 1 and 2 only got to page 20 before the OP started a new one, presumably because they knew a shiny new thread carrying the "drama" on would prompt more engagement.

Oh I just assumed the first two went to 1000 posts .

Same here.

That poster stating the threads only got to 20 pages isn't actually being that helpful since my settings are 100 posts to a page which means I can only get to 10 pages maximum. Saying the post count would be better for everyone.

I though it was...

At the risk of emphasising my duff-ness, can anyone tell me why someone would put so much time, effort and mental energy into running a post about an entirely fake scenario? I mean, I just can't even begin to fathom out what someone would achieve by doing this?

It could be anything from mental illness to loneliness 🤷‍♂️

It's been happening ever since chat forums were invented.

If you've ever watched that awful programme called Catfish, the OP will have similar traits to the type who put similar amounts of energy and time into Catfishing. They're societally rejected or lacking in some way, but find power, kicks and immense control holding court virtually. It's a mental illness. Basically the type who make the worst psycho exes.

Americano75 · 05/03/2025 14:15

I'd started to eventually suspect it was bullshit on thread 4. Sad bastards making shit up for clicks.

😂😂

Honestly, some MNers are so very gullible. It was so obviously utter claptrap from the outset. Much like one that went on interminably a while ago in a similar vein, over several threads.

I haven’t fine tuned my bs radar enough on MN, still learning, but something just didn't sit right with the mil saying ‘Darling, in my day’. Her day being circa the 1980s but sounded more like she was from the 1880s. I was beginning to picture Maggie Smith. Also by the end of it his initial bad behaviour seemed tame to the absolute douchebag he was developing into, then adding an even worse character in the mix in the shape of the football manager, I mean even the most trusting person must have been getting doubts. I believed them to start with because it wouldn’t occur to me that someone would waste their time with fictional nonsense🤷‍♀️

I mean you couldn’t make it up, except apparently they did.

Bruisername · 05/03/2025 14:19

The football stuff was potentially comedy gold though. Surely there’s a sitcom waiting for this character who takes their footie so seriously and makes up stuff about drug tests and transfer windows

there was only so long op could hold the naive act really

treesandsun · 05/03/2025 14:20

WilmaTitsDrop · 05/03/2025 11:40

Normally that sort of generic message means a PBP.

Or MNHQ have done a bit of digging into their previous posts and found glaring inconsistencies.

Annoying when they don't say though.

What does PBP mean?

I kept wanting to post ‘oh, come ON!’ but that sort of thing doesn’t go down well 😂

Over on the Tattle MN thread, they’d spotted it was bullshit early in the proceedings.

BunnyLake · 05/03/2025 14:24

BeansOnToast41 · 05/03/2025 13:09

After all the talk of Thai massage parlours and happy endings, the fact the OP’s final post said she just wanted a “fairytale ending like in the movies” felt like the point where they just couldn’t keep a straight face anymore

Were they actually married (hypothetically) as that wouldn’t even make sense. In fairytales the wedding is the happy ending. No one ever knows what happens after that, could be a shitshow.

SlightlyJaded · 05/03/2025 14:25

NerrSnerr · 05/03/2025 12:19

Mumsnet can't give emotional support to those who have commented on a troll thread- that'd be a huge job,

It comes back to not giving more you can afford in all ways. You have to assume that a large proportion of threads on here are bollocks and keep that in mind and not get emotionally involved.

The Oliver's army threads from a few years back are a huge example of this- a troll thread about a boy with leukaemia- took loads of posters in (even though it was clearly rubbish). The onus is on you to look after yourself.

I didn't ask MN for emotional support - that would be bonkers!

I said that people invest their time and offer emotional support - so when something then vanishes into thin air - a brief explanation from MNHQ on why - would be respectful of people's time.

TrainGame · 05/03/2025 14:27

So many of us called it out early on @MNHQ

I said on the second thread this just doesn't add up and you deleted my post.

JohnKettleyIsAWeathermanAndSoIsMichaelFish · 05/03/2025 14:29

The faux naivety over what the "little blue pills" that she found could possibly be 🤔🙄

Because troll hunting is against the rules.

As annoying as it is, we're not allowed to call them out publicly, even if others are getting sucked in.

Honeypickle · 05/03/2025 14:32

@JohnKettleyIsAWeathermanAndSoIsMichaelFish the "oh little blue pills - what could these possibly be?" that's the point I realised this was all a load of rubbish too.

Oh what is that? I’ve not been there, dipped into Tattle Life a couple of times but it’s no more apparently.

ThisFluentBiscuit · 05/03/2025 14:34

I don't believe all the posters saying "Oh, I knew it!" Course you did!

Seemed perfectly legit to me - some guy acting an arse.

treesandsun · 05/03/2025 14:37

I believed it - and I thought I was generally cynical! To be honest the utter bullshit some men come out with -and women fall for - I didn't think it was that far fetched.
I thought people were being tight expecting her to do something immediately. It doesn't bother me - the advice was given in good faith so it is on them. I do feel pity for people who do that type of thing for whatever reason - I could understand it if they were making money out of it but how bad is your life if strangers offering advice on fictional events is how you get your kicks.

Really??? Staying with him because he hadn't actually been unfaithful. Sounded like a load of shit to me.

Really? By the same token then, how on earth would anybody be taken in by this absolute trashy nonsense? It doesn't take much to spot it, just depends where your tolerance is for bullshit/fantasy is. Some people like it so want it to be true, even on this thread - wanting updates as they'd only got thread number one...

Imagine, you're humiliated by something that your husband did/said. Would your first recourse be to go onto a chatboard and write reams of rubbish about it? I think not.

It's not about what he did, fictitious or not, it's what the OP did. The masses of posters who invest themselves in this are the reason why it carries on and there are more of the awful tripe sagas from attention-seeking saddos.

Oh no come on now.

Just because others didn't/couldn't spot it, doesn't mean some of us didn't.

In my nearly 14 years on MN I'd say the vast majority of threads that run into more than 2 are either total bollocks, or mostly bollocks to keep people interested.

But others haven't been on this forum as long or they're less cynical than me, but that doesn't mean all MNetters are the same.

anothermnuser123 · 05/03/2025 14:40

WilmaTitsDrop · 05/03/2025 13:41

People asked why people care if its fake but some posters invested hours into giving advice, a couple in particular were very vocal on the threads and I felt bad they wasted so much time on what was clearly utter rubbish.

Never feel bad.

Those posters will have had time to waste, just like all of us when we log into a chat forum.

And of course they know there's always a chance the person they're posting to might not be genuine 🤷‍♂️

I know that, but no not everyone does and some people were really taken in by it and put a lot of their energy into it. You only have to read this thread to see how many were surprised it was fake, some people online are unfortunately a lot more trusting. It's how people get taken in and scammed.

I quite like Tattle thread about MN, it's on point and clever.
