Thread Deleted ( Parts 1,2,3, and 4)

AnneKipankitoo · 05/03/2025 11:18

I saw that thread 4 was deleted with the message
about breaking Mumsnet guidelines.
The 3 previous threads were deleted too.

Which guidelines were broken?

I think MN have to accept that when people give time, energy and emotional support to FOUR threads that disappear - there will be a TAAT

I wrote at least four posts across those threads and I usually think really carefully about what advice I would give a friend IRL - rather than just bash out something on my keyboard. I think the deletion notes from MNHQ should be more specific in respect of people's time and emotional energy spent @MNHQ

Mumsnet can't give emotional support to those who have commented on a troll thread- that'd be a huge job,

It comes back to not giving more you can afford in all ways. You have to assume that a large proportion of threads on here are bollocks and keep that in mind and not get emotionally involved.

The Oliver's army threads from a few years back are a huge example of this- a troll thread about a boy with leukaemia- took loads of posters in (even though it was clearly rubbish). The onus is on you to look after yourself.

After 4000?
Why not say PBP?

What is PBP?

WilmaTitsDrop · 05/03/2025 12:08

They don't sit and read the threads, they rely instead on reports.

It's possible they eventually looked into it after a few reports came in.

People were reporting it from thread 2 if not 1, they commented saying that they had. So it was still allowed to run for another 2 threads.

FFS.
What do they get out of it. Just for kicks?
I sort of imagine a wannabe novelist wanting to get character insights..
I did wonder if it would get picked up by the Mail, but I guess their antenna are well developed. (better than mine!)
The last one I remember was some woman who had let a friend stay in her rental property which was in her garden and the friend was a real CF but the poster just couldn't see it and kept arguing that perhaps she was alright really.

Gymnopedie · 05/03/2025 12:23

I read some of the first thread and right at the beginning it sounded vaguely credible. It was getting less so by the end. But as soon as it went to a second thread I stopped bothering. It triggered my BS radar.

alwaysdeleteyourcookies · 05/03/2025 12:24

If threads go on for that long it's a pretty good indicator of BS, I always think. Especially with a topic like that. Certain to rile people up.

Vipersgonnavipe · 05/03/2025 12:24

Pretty much everything on here is fake, exaggerated or goady froth. Not sure why anyone is surprised tbh.

I always feel sorry for the people sucked in. Also read better written stuff in Take A Break. Engage brains people…

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 05/03/2025 12:26

I think MNHQ is pretty much on the ball and if they're not deleting threads it's because they don't want to. Footfall and traffic is important to them so, threads run their course but, when such threads are highlighted for individual reports to be deleted then they have to act.

I bet they sit there saying, "Shit, we have to take this bollocks down now", though.

Pretty much everything is genuine, there must be 100s and 100s of threads started everyday across all of the topics, of course most of them are real.

Do you think there's some kind of thread farm spending all day writing untrue posts?

I don't feel a bit sorry for them, they're the reason those threads are created. I just wish I could blot them out of the viewing panel altogether without ever having posted on them.

I didn't open the 1-4 oversharing bollocks because the heading was enough to make me think the OP a creep.

FuckedOverByBuilder · 05/03/2025 12:13

No one has commented or asked if OP could update. The issues is MN have deleted all 4 threads which is an unusual move and signifies something was not at it seems

This thread is asking MN to comment, not OP

What? I'm not asking OP to update anything. I'm talking about the original threads and the fact that they were clearly made up. As I said, if your life was literally falling apart then why would you be focusing on writing a 4 thread saga for mumsnet

2025willbemytime · 05/03/2025 12:29

I've reported a post on here to ask @MNHQ.

Sebsaloysius · 05/03/2025 12:29

I always thought I was a pretty clued-up sort of middle-aged idiot. I'm clearly the exact opposite. I read all 4 threads and at no point did it occur to me that it wasn't genuine.

At the risk of emphasising my duff-ness, can anyone tell me why someone would put so much time, effort and mental energy into running a post about an entirely fake scenario? I mean, I just can't even begin to fathom out what someone would achieve by doing this?

I'm fairly new to MN in the grand scheme of things. I think I'm going back to Chat and Take a Break magazines!

gamerchick · 05/03/2025 12:31

Those threads were like the bowels after a vindaloo and 10 pints.

Probably better not to get too emotionally invested really in any story.

KellyMumsnet · 05/03/2025 12:33

Afternoon, everyone.

Thanks for raising this. We try and give the benefit of the doubt as far as we possibly can with threads but in this case, we noticed that the stories just didn't add up and we don't want anyone to invest more energy into the threads than they already have, so we made the decision to delete them.

NerrSnerr · 05/03/2025 12:35

@B1indEye maybe the every day threads are mostly true (gardening, diy etc) but so much is exaggerated or rubbish.

Just look at s&b threads- all those people scathing about what others wear- do you honestly believe they're wearing what they pretend and looking so stylish or sat at home in their pjs wishing they were who they pretend to be? The teeny tiny people who don't eat any food who exclaim surprise if someone dares eat half a mars bar- do you genuinely believe all those folk are real?

Threads that go on for pages and pages with updates and quick developments are always rubbish.

AMurderofMurderingCrows · 05/03/2025 12:35

I hope they let us know when the book comes out cos I want to know what happens at the end!

I only read parts of the first but the OP was giving regular updates. It boggles my mind that someone would spend that much time and energy making the whole thing up 🤯

There was not a thread 5 so I don’t think anyone was going to invest more energy in replying.

Attention. Gives them loads of it.

FriendlyEeyore · 05/03/2025 12:40

I thought it was fiction from the start. The way it was written and kept escalating, fast moving over a number of threads - it's usually a sign.

Totally agree
