FYI: I've name changed for this to avoid a pile-on.

This post is about the overwhelming negativity and hostility with the FWR board that new posters and posters with a differing viewpoint face if they attempt to use the board.

There is a persistent group within the board that are, to put it simply, hateful towards others. Despite posting there on and off for more than 4 years, I have never felt welcome, despite not holding any particular extreme views or being abusive to others. Without exception, I am accused of being another poster, or a man, a TRA, or some kind of paid activist. This occurs again and again until I leave a thread in frustration.

I’ve seen this happen to many other new posters. Few return. Why would they? Such an acidic atmosphere doesn’t encourage healthy discussion. I’d just like to discuss women’s rights, but this board makes discussion impossible.

I’m not exactly sure what the answer is, except for @MNHQ to request the board to tone down the rhetoric a bit and back off on any new names they may see on the board. Let people engage with you rather than actively drive them away.

However this thread does seem to be endlessly fascinating to some posters despite them quite rightly pointing out that it's a bit repetitive and dull. It's a mystery of our times.

Exactly. They're doing the very thing they accuse us of. They're hardly coming back with new and interesting points every time, are they? It's always some variation of you're all big meanies and this discussion is pointless. So, why do they bother?

Well tbf, if (general) you are going to accuse posters of something and then won't clarify or explain then of course those posters are going to repeat their questions. Some even reframe their "tone" in the hopes of getting answers... just like this thread. I've asked three different posters a question about their posts and nada, zilch, crickets. Multiply that by the rest of the posters and it's not really surprising a thread gets full, is it?

So bring something new to the table then.

I don't know what you want here. The FWR board is full of aggression and it puts people off.

It's blindingly obvious. No one wants to engage in sensible discourse. They want opponents they can beat down. It's the thrill of the fight. PPs have already stated or otherwise shown this in this very thread.

Do with that information what you will. If you want to carry on making the same mistakes whilst tripping over congratulating each other about it, have at it.

Thing is, I got so sick of FWR posters talking to me like shit that I decided to copy their posting style and throw it back at them. Unsurprisingly they don't like it.

First of all, that has nothing to do with what I've said.

Secondly, we would absolutely love to enter into serious discourse but no one ever answers any of our very simple questions. They just deflect or call us names, so of course it descends into an argument.

Thirdly, have you actually ventured elsewhere on MN? You can be called vicious names for just not washing your sheets every week. FWR really isn't the worst for arguments and bunfights.

Finally, just repeating over and over that we are all nasty meanies doesn't make it true and will not work to deflect from the fact you have nothing of substance to bring to the table.

You don't want us to "argue the toss" with posters who turn up to wokescold us about Meany Mr Trump putting all the federal male prisoners in the male estate where they belong, you want us to shut up and meekly accept the scolding.

If people don't actually want to debate that, why are they posting on a debate forum other than to wokescold us?

I can only speak for myself but I don't give a shit what tone people use towards me on here. What I do care about is people accusing posters of doing the exact same things they are doing themselves, while pretending to have the moral high ground.

Even if people shittily ask me for information and evidence, I provide it. Because shitty tone or not, at least they are interested in the information rather than simply censuring people.

In my opinion, it is significantly worse than AIBU or any other board.

Do you think everyone saying this has decided to secretly band together and lie about it? Come on. They're saying it because it's true. I'm sure it feels very good to have everyone agreeing with you and patting you on the back, and it must feel very nice to feel part of a gang with a common goal, but that doesn't make your means beyond reproach. Unfortunately, people don't want to discuss these things with the board, myself included, because it'll be all of two minutes before someone launches a personal attack.

Arguing about it just once would be a start seeing as FWR critics can’t even attempt just one answer but seem to know enough the board they say they hate and have hidden. But know an awful lot about it. No other threads on Mumsnet that take your fancy and where the tone is better suited to you no?
