FYI: I've name changed for this to avoid a pile-on.

This post is about the overwhelming negativity and hostility with the FWR board that new posters and posters with a differing viewpoint face if they attempt to use the board.

There is a persistent group within the board that are, to put it simply, hateful towards others. Despite posting there on and off for more than 4 years, I have never felt welcome, despite not holding any particular extreme views or being abusive to others. Without exception, I am accused of being another poster, or a man, a TRA, or some kind of paid activist. This occurs again and again until I leave a thread in frustration.

I’ve seen this happen to many other new posters. Few return. Why would they? Such an acidic atmosphere doesn’t encourage healthy discussion. I’d just like to discuss women’s rights, but this board makes discussion impossible.

I’m not exactly sure what the answer is, except for @MNHQ to request the board to tone down the rhetoric a bit and back off on any new names they may see on the board. Let people engage with you rather than actively drive them away.

i didn't think we could. i know when i go back to post on threads i was posting on under a different name, it automatically makes me post in the old name, not this one.

it even tells me when i reply that "you must use the same username as your first post on this thread"

That was a fairly recent change, last few months I think. Prior to that you could change username on every post you made in a thread. Not that I would ever have used that ability! Not me! Oh no! Never! Sigh! I miss being able to name change mid thread.

Bannedontherun · 27/01/2025 20:48

@Boiledbeetle you very very naughty beetle. Have i come across you before?<peers a lot >

nah my mistake must have been some other, erm, bug.

Yes. She launched a political party. A political party that people felt would be focused on specific issues that being a democracy, people felt they would like to known more about and to vote for.

I have read through a chunk of that thread and didn’t see anyone ‘worshipping’ her. Many people discussed how to get involved. Many people congratulated her for being brave enough to do this.

Considering the way you frame any positiveness expressed about what she does or her herself as hyperbole worshipping shows clearly your entrenched polarised position. And knowing just how you have not only dishonestly mischaracterised her positions in the past, but directly removed context from her transcripts so they fit your demonisation of her on threads, I am not surprised by your exaggerated characterisation of that thread.

@WinterBones you cannot name change within a post. What i mean is the OP name changed for this post, mumsnet will know all of OP’s names and their activities.

so complaining about other people when the complainant is guilty of bad faith is why this thread was allowed to stand. In other words MNHQ let them hang themselves,.

Indeed. A poster name changes and then name checks other posters for wrongdoing while posting under that new user name. How very civil and honest.

But Helle It just adds to the fun of playing guess the posters previous name! I'm quietly running through the options in my head.

Sometimes its possible to tell sometimes not.. thought “you are lying” was a dead giveaway, mentioning no names mind….

ineedsun · 27/01/2025 21:02

OP, I’ve hidden it. If you want to have a nuanced discussion rather than just agree with the dominant voices, you’re accused of all sorts of things, then people demand for you to go back and provide examples of something which was on a separate thread, days ago.

I got to the point where I realised that no one is interested in discussion, they just want to tell people what they think and what other people should think.

Bannedontherun · 27/01/2025 21:05

“Nuanced discussion” is on my list of potential new user names, although i will always really be a hedgehog with a penchant for snowballs, especially those in a bugs possession…

blownawaybyit · 27/01/2025 21:09

I see the FWR crew are doing the usual derailing attempts even on this thread - proving OP's point.

Gotta love it.

EdithStourton · 27/01/2025 21:09

@popeydokey I first came here assuming I was wrong, that I'd missed something. So I'm happy to learn, but it's been 7 years or so, and there have been a very tiny number of posters who are honest about their position.
WOT? I think a lot of women - me included - who post on FWR are very honest about their own position.
Mine, FWIW:
Don't hate trans people. Know and like several.
Don't think anyone can change sex.
Think that women need a degree of protection from men as we are physically weaker than they are (so segregation is needed in public toilets, prisons and sports)
That we shouldn't be drugging children who are too young to make massive decisions about their bodies.
That if you leave loopholes, sex offenders will find them.

And yeah, I don't like being called a Nazi for holding views which were 100% seen as normal and sensible just a few years ago and which, furthermore, align with that pesky thing called biological reality.

So true. They come on and call you transphobes, bigots, right wing, a nazi, if you don't agree with them and adhere to their ideology.

There's no room for 'nuanced discussion' as you put it as they aren't interested in any discussion about why sex based spaces are important and should remain, and the unfairness of males competing in women's sports, and why rape victims and women of certain religions need spaces away from men amongst many other examples. Just that TWAW and that's that.

I'm really glad you understand and see it too!

Well has anyone actually got any concrete suggestions for what they want to see on FWR apart from vague ‘be nicer’ type comments? Because I haven’t seen any. Absent those, I’m not sure what the point of this thread actually is…

Does any woman on FWR (not the trolling posters/ploppers) have a position that differs from that? It's definitely my position and any GC person I know.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 27/01/2025 21:27

I would suggest not blaming other women if you can't make your own case or are too fragile to deal with criticism of it 🤷‍♀️

blownawaybyit · 27/01/2025 21:28

Ah, yes, the tired martyr complex. Claiming you're silenced while spouting the same talking points we’ve all heard a thousand times. "Nuanced discussion"? Please. What you really mean is, "I want to regurgitate transphobic rhetoric without being called out for it."
Here's the thing ... when people push back on your "arguments," it's not because they can't handle discussion - it's because bigotry dressed up as concern isn’t a fresh take. You’re not being silenced; you're being disagreed with. Maybe it feels the same to you because you're so used to dominating conversations without being questioned.
If you want people to stop calling you a bigot, perhaps stop saying bigoted things. Revolutionary concept, I know.
